  1. I believe he cited Forbes. Edit: http://www.forbes.com/pictures/emdm45hle/1-chicago-bulls/#gallerycontent
  2. I was listening to Doug Thonus' Bulls podcast this week (pretty good listen most weeks) and he was talking about how the Bulls were the most profitable sports team in the US, and possibly the world (he could only back up the US claim not the world). I don't think these were exact numbers, but he was saying the average NBA team spends about 75% of what it gets back on the team and the Bulls are closer to 40%. If the Bulls went 10-15 million into the luxury tax they'd only be the 3rd most profitable team in basketball instead of by far the most. And its been this way for years, even in the lean years when we paid to watch Corey Benjamin and Ron Mercer. Anyways, not really a direct response to your post because I can understand not wanting to pay a still productive player to not play for you over the next 3 seasons, but I can't understand not being willing to use the full MLE or whatever it is they have this year to retain key members of their bench (for one season) and/or improving (or at least stabalizing) the team.
  3. They key phrase is "better team." It was doubted by the most professional of opinions that the Bulls could even beat the heat in an ECF scenario. The Bulls success last year was hinging on Rip and Rose being able to stay healthy because they were hurt many times during the season. They weren't a clear favorite, so sitting here and blaming everything due to Rose being hurt is silly. Even if he wasn't hurt you're assuming he'll come in after said injuries and play at MVP caliber. As we saw, the Heat were a better team their second time around and the jury was out on the Bulls being better then the previous year. lol, yeah, they were missing an all-star caliber backup point guard. Having an All Star point guard did dick for them 2 years ago in the ECF because he was their only offensive option. and the heat didn't win in 2011, either. why would their front office be so stupid as to think they could win without any major changes in 2012? SHANE BATTIER!!!!
  4. This guy on twitter claims to be a hockey insider and has 15k followers but seems a little sketchy so grain of salt this Yeah and its just him breaking the news about a verbal agreement.
  5. According to Capgeek, those 4 total up to 9.4 mil. But also, replacing 2 of those 4 players (with Suter and Parise being the other 2 replacements) with minor league fodder ads about another million to the payroll doesnt it? So we'd still be 1.6 short right? And that's only if we got rid of those original 4 for nothing tangible, which I guess is doable if we trade for prospects, draft picks, 2 way players.
  6. Yup. That's why, while disappointed, I could not be that down on Sharks potential because of a bad month. His stuff is just too good.
  7. Surely, this must be some kind of satire. This is madness! THIS IS BLEACHER REPORT! Sorry for challenging WSR for the worst joke ever.
  8. The more I think about it the more annoyed I get about this Asik situation. Hilarious that rules designed to help teams keep their RFAs is actually making it really hard to do so in some cases like this one. Bulls could not legally make a big enough offer to resign Asik so he gets a huge offer from another team specifically structured to make it nearly impossible for the Bulls to match. The best part is that Houston doesn't even have to pay him 5-5-15 but the Bulls do. How did the genius owners not see that loophole coming?
  9. Yeah definitely I am fine with that.
  10. Apparently Sveum was giving Castro a talking to for that late throw earlier in the game when Rizzo stepped in and (rightfully) took the blame. Sveum later had to apologize to Starlin. It worries me slightly that Sveum is so quick to blame Castro for this, but maybe it was just an honest mistake. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/11536/rizzo-takes-blame-for-apparent-castro-gaffe
  11. I cannot personally see a way we could afford both Parise and Suter without having to trade someone like Kane. And maybe that is their thought process. If they land either Parise or Suter or both, Kaner could be gone.
  12. I'd even take Kerry Wood unretiring and giving it a go.
  13. afaik, you can't sign a free agent to take you over the cap, but you can re-sign your own players to whatever cap hit you so desire, understanding that the more and longer you do, the more expensive it becomes. it seems as if i'm alone on this board when it comes to re-signing asik. yes yes, it's a risk to assume that his ELITE defensive skill set won't be diluted by increased minutes and that he might never develop the offensive skills to be worth that third year. however, asik at 5 mil or whatever is a pretty sweet deal and it's clear he has value that, barring injury, will continue to rise as he develops as a player. if we can't stomach the third year or need the room to go out and get someone, then you make a move. someone will want him. this still seems like kind of a no-brainer to me. Even if you're over the cap you can still sign FAs, but only with MLE and LLE. I don't know if the new CBA takes away that right if you are way over the tax though.
  14. guy from hockeybuzz.com.
  15. Agreed. This team doesn't seem as miserable as most bad teams are.
  16. I know how you feel. I was in Arizona last Wednesday - Saturday after the Cubs left town the Sunday before. Oh well I'll be in Houston for the series in mid-September.
  17. lol Charlottes not folding.
  18. We need Kane to "bump into" Parise and convince him to go binge drinking until he decides to be a Hawk.
  19. THANKS FOR THE UPDATE DUDE
  20. Just a minute ago
  21. That's one way to look at it. However, once Selig made the game count, it should be largely about putting the best team on the field to win HFA in the World Series for your league. Given that starters are never in the game in the late innings, do you want Bryan LaHair taking a key AB in the game if you are a fan of a contending team?
  22. Or maybe just play another team not based in Houston or San Diego. BTW, if the Cubs win this game, they will head into the All Star Break only 1 game below .500 at home this year (19-20)
  23. The top of our order is so dangerous its futile to choose which to pitch to. And we are so great that we have another All-Star just chilling on our bench.
  24. Looks like Rizzo will appeal to the meatballs too with his clutch hitting prowless
  25. Also, in the players vote, Castro was selected as their choice for starting SS
