    Do you not remember the 3 months between when we "signed" Jorge Soler and when we signed Jorge Soler? That's exactly what he is saying. Why did he wait until now to defect when its unlikely he'll be a FA before the deadline. But as pointed out above, defecting isn't a matter of saying, 'I think I'll defect from Cuba today'

    What is it if you take out the first month's worth before the bat change? Based on an article on May 13th that said he had been using the bat for 2 weeks, his numbers since April including tonight are: .285/.349/.601/.950

    Len said it was only the 6th time in mlb history it happened. One of them was Frank Thomas but I didn't hear if Len gave the other names. Cool thanks for sharing. Sure would be nice to have access to Len Len and Bob right now, but in all fairness to Hawk, he becomes infinitely more bearable when his team is getting obliterated. What list is that? HBP twice in the same inning.

    Damn, just looked this up. Soriano has played 62 games this year....his first 15 were bad, but over the last 47 games this is his line: .292/.347/.584/.931 with 13 homers and 13 doubles. If Soriano hit homers at that pace all season, he'd hit 45 HR.

    Castro back up to .304 and not in danger of dropping below a .300 OBP at the moment. 7 for his last 10 AB with a double, triple, home run and 4 RBI. Not bad. 0 walks though of course.

    thank you. I'm sitting here reading the last few pages and am dumbfounded that so many people think that putting Dempster on the DL to prevent him from pitching would be beneficial to the Cubs. Even if Dempster was ok to pitch through it and the Cubs are just taking precaution, the loss of trade value, however minor, would cancel out or exceed any benefit of preserving Dempster and his statistics. And if the Cubs were really found to be abusing the DL system, who knows how they would be punished. Not worth it.

    His slugging is so powerful it magically translates over to infinite defensive prowess at all positions! A) Having to worry about where to fit everyone defensively shouldnt be the primary concern within reason. I don't want to sacrafice 160 points of slugging just because the pinch hitter coming up doesn't play the same position as the guy he's replacing. B) It's not difficult to bring someone like Cardenas in to play 2B in the 10th if the Cubs tie the game. But as pointed out above, yeah it makes much more sense to PH him for Reed Johnson, however if the Cubs had loaded the bases with 2 outs, I'd want LaHair up over Barney.

I believe I read that Spain wins the group with a win OR a draw, regardless of the other results. EDIT: If Spain and Croatia draw 1-1, Spain wins the group if Italy doesn't win by at least 5 goals, and Croatia would advance if Italy doesn't win by 3. If Spain and Croatia draw 2-2, Spain wins the group and Croatia finishes second. That's what I get for using SBnation for soccer related insight.

    Does "eats up bad pitching" really imply that he can't hit good pitching? There's not as much of it in the PCL but Rizzo is hitting everything right now.

    It's really hard to put together a 4 run rally on only singles. I wasnt watching the first couple of batters, but I'm thinking that no Cub went into their ABs that inning looking to walk, or seemingly even to get the count in their favor. I wonder if the Cubs had a specific plan to attack Aceves early in the count.

    You'd be amazed how similar those two are since May 1. He has 7 HRs in that time. Barney has hit a couple of home runs, but in a scenario where the batter is the tying run in the 9th inning, its dumbfounding to not find a way to get arguably your best power hitter an AB, instead of either DeJesus, Reed Johnson or Barney.
