  1. It's crazy how it just happens out of the blue. Baseball is a weird sport and the Cubs are a weird team that seem to slump and streak together.
  2. Baseball gods realized that Little was starting to figure it out and had to put a stop to that. Can't have healthy and reliable bullpen arms on the Cubs
  3. I was a pretty big Kyle defender and even I gave up on him quite awhile ago. While this is an awesome development, it doesn't really surprise me given what we've seen from Kyle over the last decade.
  4. Michael Busch is a great reminder that sometimes you just need to let guys figure horsefeathers out. He was a complete disaster at 1B to start the season, now he's rating as average defensively. He looked so damn lost offensively for a good chunk of the season and while there's maybe still BABIP concerns there, he's got an .853 OPS for the season and on pace for more than 4 wins this year. Basically what I'm saying is, stick with Miles Mastrobuoni as your everyday 3B. He's gotta figure it out eventually (ok I'm not saying that)
  5. For 2.5 freaking months I’ve been saying it’s just a bad stretch and teams get hot and cold throughout a long season and for 2.5 months the Cubs continued to suck until we all gave up and then and only then they decided to play well again.
  6. Seiya makes some very questionable decisions in RF
  7. I’m pretty sure my subscription to NSBB Premium back in 2004 guaranteed me access to all paywalled content in perpetuity, just tell @Tim, he’ll straighten this out for me.
  8. I was at a 0.5/10 care a few days ago. I'm at a 1.5/10 now. We knew they would eventually have to play a better at some point, they weren't a 55 win caliber team. They still have a shitload of ground to make up. They showed they could (almost) do it last year and their starting pitching will keep them in most games, but it would still take a prolonged stretch of great play to make it interesting. The only difference is, I don't think Jed is as eager to sell as he was last year (nor does he have the chips to do so) so they probably have a bit more time to work with assuming they showed some sustained improvement.
  9. Still in a "believe it when I see it" mode but interesting...
  10. The Orioles are 1-4 against the Cubs over the last 2 seasons and 157-91 against everyone else
  11. Cubs have won their past 2 series. Prior to that they were 1-13 in their previous 14 series of 3 games or more. Weird ass team
  12. So congrats to Spain for winning the Euros!
  13. Yeah I was gonna say, this Cubs team is not exactly known for taking advantage of good pitching matchups lol
  14. Baltimore is kind of dumpy like Cincinnati, maybe they tricked him into thinking he was there.
  15. I haven’t really been paying attention much lately, why is Mastorbuoni all the sudden playing every game? Who am I missing that is injured? Looking at his game logs he’s certainly not getting starts based on merit.
  16. Yeah...hes only 12 innings behind him, but not that wins mean anything but Shota has 7, Steele just got his 1st on Friday. But their numbers look pretty similar ERA: Steele - 2.95, Shota - 3.16 FIP: Steele - 3.33, Shota - 3.39 WHIP - Steele - 0.99, Shota 1.10 K/9 - Steele - 8.7, Shota 9.1 bWAR - Steele 1.5, Shota 1.7 I know there's much better metrics out there, just doing a quick BR glance.. They've both had their ERAs propped up by a high number of UERs (Steele 7, Shota 6). Honestly either one would have been fine, Steele has slightly better numbers but Shota has more IP and is a slightly better story.
  17. agreed that its cool and its an acceptable all star selection. it could have easily have been Steele but the considering how electric he was earlier in the season, I can see why he was selected over him...the numbers seem pretty close overall
  18. FWIW, at least according to Baseball Reference Happ has had a higher oWAR (so removing defense from the equation) in both 2023 and 2024. Using oWAR/162 games played for comparison purposes... 2023: Happ - 3.0, Morel - 2.4 2024: Happ - 3.3, Morel - 1.1
