Fair point and I can't point out that Cousins and Jefferson missed half the season because my whole argument is that elite offensive coaching can overcome that. Obviously there are no absolutes, but I do think coaching competency does play a bigger role in how successful an offense is than people give it credit for.

I'm still really hung up on the idea that offensive coaching makes all the difference. It can't be a fluke that the Packers put up almost 400 yards of offense yesterday with Willis at QB. Yes the Packers have a better line and yes it was a very run heavy offense but is Jacobs that much better than Swift? Are the Packers WR options even better than the Bears, even without Allen? Caleb should be considerably better than Willis, but maybe being a rookie knocks him down a few pegs. But overall, the Packers are not SO much better that they are getting more yards in one game with Willis at QB than the Bears have had in their first 2 games combined. Right? I'm willing to be proven wrong either in a typed response to this post, or via more game action next week and beyond. But I'm really hung up on the idea that having a sharp offensive mind that knows how to maximize the talent he/she has is almost as important as having the right QB. The Packers have Matt LaFleur, the Vikings have Kevin O'Connell. The Bears have Shane Waldron who did serve under McVey (though not as an OC) and managed to resurrect the career of Geno Smith and make the Seahawks a league average offense, but is he an offensive mastermind? I guess time will tell.

Last time we'll ever face the Oakland A's, even if its in Chicago. Also interesting that we'll be the first team to play the A's in Sacramento, as we are scheduled for their home opener on March 31st. -

Who I like, but in terms of building this year's line is not someone I expect to factor in given the injury and his rawness as a prospect So yeah it counts as something Poles has done to invest in the line, but doesn't answer what Poles has done to improve this year's line IMO.

Going back to the offensive coaching discussion, Malik Willis’ Packers offense today gained more yards today than the Bears have in their first 2 games combined. Obviously it was a run heavy offense without needing a ton from Willis, they have a better line, the offensive system has been in place for years, they actually only scored 16 points, etc but still just wild to me that he can just insert Willis and put together an above average offensive production.

I counted 22 plays tonight that were a 1 yard gain or loss of yards. That’s runs, sacks and pass completions. Doesn’t include penalties or incompletions. That seems like a lot of wasted plays that hurt drives. Not sure why there are so many runs that go nowhere or short passes that get blown up right at the line of scrimmage but in a close game where the offense isn’t scoring a ton, that’s killer. Waldron has his work cut out for him.

I saw the Bears had 15 first downs today and thought “ok that’s decent at least” but then I realized that 1/3 of those first downs (5) were via penalty 😂.

Dude, first of all i believe I said that sometime in the 2nd quarter. Second of all I’ve been right there with you criticizing the production and overall performance of the offense. That doesn’t mean you can’t see glimpses of what the offense is supposed to look like and flashes of the talent looking talented. There is a lot to clean up and things feel a lot worse after that 2nd half but when Caleb was 8-9 or whatever he was and was in a groove hitting receivers on time you could get a glimpse of what they’re trying to do.

Buzz off, there were flashes early on when I said that. When he had time to throw in rhythm early in the game he was moving the ball and made good throws and decisions. That obviously didn’t continue and the second half was pretty bad. Of course this didn’t help either

The Hard Knocks slide is a lot less cute when your offense is struggling to break 150 yards and it’s on a 1 yard gain

Bears offense had 149 yards in the first game they have 130 yards in this game with 6 minutes left this is Jonathan Quinn level Bears offense

Ok this is pretty concerning. He’s thrown downfield like 4 times in this game and 3 have been intercepted

Oh yeah forgot about that one lol. Yeah. 2 catches for 17 yards so far this season and one of those was a pass that was not intended for him and deflected 10 feet in the air to him

I literally completely forgot Odunze was in this game until you said that. I know he’s hurt so I don’t necessarily mean that as a dig but just haven’t seen or heard from him at all most of the game.

Unless You count a FG drive where the Bears started with the ball at the titans 25, the offense has produced 16 points in 7 quarters. Rough. Again, I see the flashes which are promising, but the production is just not there right now.

That’s exactly it. No issues with the challenge on its own but the first one was just so bad

Gotta give Eberflus credit for defensive adjustments. I can’t analyze football well enough in realtime to tell you what he’s doing that’s working but it’s working.

Feels like it would be an INT if they called it on the field but I feel pretty certain it won’t be overturned. I don’t hate this particular challenge though because it’s such a pivotal play, but it just makes the first challenge even more glaring

Also I really think Roschon should be active in the future. Neither Swift or Herbert are power backs. I’m fine with passing on 3rd and 1.5, but it didn’t feel like running the ball was even an option based on all the issues we’ve had running the ball in short yardage situations.
