  1. At this point I'm not even sure if it matters who we'd align with in the QFs. Brazil hasn't looked to be in good form this summer and Colombia has been an absolute monster. I know Brazil is still Brazil, just saying I'm not sure if the margin is big enough for me to care who we match up again if we advance to the knockouts.
  2. Not sure why you’d defend him. Alzolay was a major part of why we blew so many games early, Almonte was a tough loss a few weeks ago but also was only just starting to prove to be a decent reliever and had his struggles. Merryweather is the only one that has been significantly damaging to the Cubs for a long period of time.
  3. I say that every day and then they hook me. Check the score and it’s the 6th and they’re up 4 runs. Ok fun let’s wind down my night by watching the last couple innings. They can’t surely blow every game they play right? It’s definitely a shame on me situation. That said I’ve emotionally distanced myself from the team a few weeks ago, these finishes are more amusing than anything.
  4. Steele has started 11 games, has a 3.08 ERA and has 0 wins 6/24 - left with a 4-2 lead in the 8th, lost 5-4 6/18 - left with a 2-2 tie in the 7th, won 5-2 6/13 - left with a 2-0 lead in the 7th, Leiter blew up and lost 3-2 6/8 - left down 3-1 with the difference being Amaya unable to hold on to a strikeout that would have ended the inning, and the next batter doubled home 2 runs, lost 3-2 6/1 - left tied 5-5, with 3 runs scoring on a horrific error by Suzuki that would have ended the inning 5/27 - left in 8th tied 0-0, Leiter and Wesneski gave up 5 runs in the next inning. Lost 5-1 5/22 - left in 7th down 3-1, Cuas let all of Steele’s inherited runners score and the inning ended down 8-1 5/16 - left down 5-3, Cubs lost 5-4 5/11 - left down 6-1. Cubs scored 7 runs to take 8-6 lead but then immediately blew it and lost 10-9. there were 2 more but I lost interest in documenting the rest
  5. I’m happy for those individual players but none of it really matters from a team perspective does it? This team will seemingly never get all its pieces working at the same time. Jed will blame injuries for the pen even though it’s glaringly obvious that Merryweather was the only one to miss significant time and not the difference between a playoff team and what we’ve actually got.
  6. Honestly you could not draw up a more obnoxious baseball team if you tried. This team is like if you asked ChatGPT to create the most annoying team possible
  7. The sad thing is with Brown, Almonte, Merryweather and Leiter all on the IL its gonna be really easy for Jed to blame injuries for poor bullpen play and not his astoundingly awful offseason after a historic playoff collapse due to the bullpen a season before
  8. Seriously why did you walk the bases loaded to put all the pressure on Smyly to throw strikes? I understand why teams do that and I’m complaining after the fact but brilliant horsefeathers Counsell
  9. 11 losses with a lead in the 8th inning or later
  10. Smart idea to intentionally walk that guy to put all the pressure on Smyly to throw strikes to the 3 hitter
  11. The Cubs should be 4-0 against the Giants. Instead they’re a hit from 2-2
  12. Smart idea to walk the bases loaded with 1 out and a 1 run lead (I know strike 1 was BS)
  13. 1 pitch and the tying run is in scoring position. Bad luck, perfectly placed. As I’ve said, bad luck + incompetence = bad baseball team
  14. Well Smyly is making $8.5m this year, that’s decent closer money
  15. I’ll take the run for the out, but I’m pretty sure the runner is going to take 2B at some point
  16. Just walk it off quickly so I can go to bed lol
  17. lol you blink and suddenly the winning run is at the plate with 0 outs. Gotta love it
  18. Dammit PCA that’s the one thing you’re supposed to do. I know that would have been one of the best catches of the year but damn
  19. Strangest enough Wesneski has done significantly better against lefties this year than righties. Like 200 points of OPS. Maybe the sample size isn’t big enough (60 and 90 PAs)
  20. Cubs closer Colten Brewer. JD calls it “fun”. That’s one way to describe it.
  21. Morel late on 94 right down the middle?
  22. Now we just have to survive…are we back to Neris again?
