  1. It’s really just to have a game as a showcase for HOF weekend. It’s been like this for years, it’s basically a giant burden for every team involved which is why I’m surprised the NFL made the Bears do this, sacrifice a home game for a UK game and do Hard Knocks all in the same season.
  2. What if anything should we be excited about watching tonight? Seeing how Bagent has progressed over the offseason? Velus Jones has seemingly gotta a little buzz in camp, might be worth seeing if there's any validity to that. Presumably Tory Taylor will play, so I guess looking forward to his punts? lol TBH I keep forgetting there's a game tonight, but I'll be watching.
  3. Not sure if anyone pointed this out but Paredes’ first hit as a Cub was a double but would have been a HR at the Trop 😂
  4. Wonder if this affects any potential extension for Allen. Feels like he is probably a one and done and I’m ok with that given his age. Also I have no idea if this makes sense but I was thinking the other day about how many of the elite teams in football actually carry 3 elite WRs on the roster (assuming Rome becomes elite). Obviously for many teams it’s not feasible because a big chunk of their cap is tied up on the QB. So you see things like the Chiefs getting rid of Tyreek Hill and Bills trading Diggs. Rodgers always bitched about lack of weapons but did just fine with Adams and scraps. Brady had that one monster season with Moss but in general lacked elite WR1s. It’s great that for Caleb’s rookie season he has 3 potential WR1s on the roster. It will really help him get him acclimated to the NFL, especially with an extremely QB friendly WR/safety blanket in Allen. But if Caleb progresses like we hope, maybe we try to entice him with a 1-2 year extension. But if the excess cap room we have from Caleb’s rookie contract can better be used at a different position group, then I am on board with not bringing him back because if Caleb really does become an upper echelon QB, the need for numerous elite WRs is lessened greatly.
  5. Are you suggesting we just let them go to save some money? Because post-deadline waiver trades aren't a thing anymore
  6. It's crazy that the Dodgers just keep adding and adding and adding
  7. Well we officially won more playoff series with Quintana than the White Sox did with Eloy and Cease (1 to 0)
  8. The only time I've been to Kauffman (I think 2012?) I thought it would be easy to take public transit back downtown. Nope that was not the case. I remember having to walk 20 minutes through a busy parking lot and crossing 1-2 busy streets before I could hop on a bus that took me towards downtown, very frustrating. But the stadium was still top notch and a blast to go to.
  9. Record wise, I'd be happy with a winning season, 9-8 If they don't have a winning record, I'd consider it successful if at the very least they walk away from the season with clear knowledge that Caleb Williams is our long term QB. I know it seems unlikely that Williams proves he's the guy and the Bears have a losing record but I could see it happening...we do still have the same coach that inexplicably blew all those games last year. It seems like the daily reports out of camp are that the defense is "winning" every day and but also plenty of "wow" moments from the offense which I think is what I expect with a new offense led by a rookie QB and several other new pieces going against a defense with a lot more stability. Looking forward to seeing the offense make strides as the preseason progresses and eventually flipping the script on occasion.
  10. Damn just catching up, so 3 stolen bases and a passed ball to score a runner in 3 innings of catching? Amaya is quite the catcher.
  11. Ahh yes we're playing the NL Central again, time to get beat down.
  12. Definitely makes it less likely as you wouldnt risk him getting hurt if a deal was close, but assuming he survives this start I could see a deal coming together over the next 20 hours or so should a team step up.
  13. What's wrong with Bote? He's been solid enough. OK with him being sent down, but into a ditch seems a little extreme for him at least.
  14. Paredes is wearing number 17, last worn by none other than Kris Bryant.
  15. Had no idea his first name was pronounced "E-sock". Good to know
  16. 100%. It would be really hard to lose this trade IMO, even if the Rays are able to "fix" Morel and turn him into a star.
  17. Yeesh, I'm actually attempting to be like smart about baseball analysis today and this is the response I get lol I thought it was a worthwhile thing to point out🤷‍♂️
  18. My only issue with that thought is that Paredes is 4th in baseball in average launch angle (among qualified hitters) and the 10th lowest average EV in baseball. Maybe my logic is wrong but I'd think more likely the balls that end up short are going to end up being flyouts to the track and not line drives off the wall more often than not. If I'm right it doesn't really tarnish him by any means, I'm confident he'll continue to be a productive hitter.
  19. If anyone wants to get a feel for Parades' power, here is a video of all 31 of his HRs in 2023:
  20. For those that don't have The Athletic (I only have it for another week or so 😭), here is what they say about the trade: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5664438/2024/07/28/mlb-trade-grades-isaac-paredes-rays-cubs/
  21. So glad we're getting rid of Morel, look at how bad he's been since June 1st: .189/.318/.360/.678 And even worse since July 5th: .100/.299/.233/.532 Oh crap wait, nevermind those are Parades' numbers 🤯
  22. Bullpen has mostly stabalized. Starters continue to give good starts much more often than not. All comes down to the offense figuring horsefeathers out if the Cubs want another miracle comeback to play competitive baseball into September. Seeing PCA start to get it together is a good sign, as is replacing Morel with Parades, and starting to get some actual production from the catchers spot.
  23. I think the whole "Rays never get ripped off and are smarter than everyone else" is a little overblown, but I do think its fair to wonder if there's something they're seeing that most don't when it appears that they've been ripped off in a trade.
  24. Sounds like Tom might have told Jed his job is on the line and to spend whatever to fix this team? Edit: wait I just saw Snells number this year wtf
