buzzkill? I'm pumped he's hitting well lately. THIS IS FUN Cassie? Stop You know I'm doing that to mock Rick Renteria right? I thought that Cassie nonsense started with Quade Err whatever, the last 4 years of Cub-dom blend together. I thought that Rick was the one that started Bonnie, Cassie etc

I know this has been said, but its really promising to see the Cubs were at least willing to acquire a pitcher who is going to make over 20m a season over the next 4 years. It's just another positive sign in a series of positive signs that baseball is about to get fun again.

It's not one year of Love. They have a commitment from him to opt out and sign a 5 year extension. I think (and could be wrong) he's saying that Minnesota was trading 1 year of Love (because he would have opted out and signed elsewhere) for Wiggins et al

I know this is an almost completely unlikely possibility but I was just curious in general. Hamels has a NTC for 21 teams including the Cubs. If the Cubs claimed him and the Phillies just let the Cubs take his contract, could Hamels block that? Or only if the Phillies and Cubs worked out a trade based on that claim?

It was a lot easier saying Baez was probably going to start out like 1-10 than to actually see it happen.

Not going to help the old ERA

Don't you dare ever call LaMathieu Baez's counterpart again Len.

    Best games I've been to: 1) Z's no hitter 2) Glavine's 300th (ok we lost but baseball history) 3) Sosa's 60th HR in 98

So they don't sign anyone good this offseason? Weird. The problems with that are: 1) They could still sign someone. Screw the first-round pick. 2) Several of the players they might want to sign won't be pick-tied. 3) They probably weren't going to sign anyone anyway. 4) Worth it to not have to hear "we lost 90+ games, there's no point in trying next year, we're too far away!" Having a protected pick and our pick of free agents is more valuable than you getting annoyed at #4. I would think Kyle would choose the situation where the Cubs didn't have a ready made excuse for not spending in FA to improve the team for next year.

Also, Javi is awesome but I petition to add Arrieta to the thread title because he's pretty awesome as well. Any other Cubs pitcher I'm fine with just Javi.

Let's get Soler up here early and really crank up the excitement. PS We just went 2-0 in the Jaxon A and Jaxon B part of the rotation.

I fell asleep on the couch after the Cubs scored in the 11th thinking there would be no more Javy ABs. Woke up shortly after to see Len and JD signing off and a reply of the home run. Son of a bitch. PS we are all too old on this board.

Ugh. Not the debut to remember. There will be better days Javy, chin up.

About an 8.3 on the Cobb Scale. Really? I could be remembering the details wrong but I thought I remember reading that Cap Anson is the biggest reason why there were no black players in the MLB until the 40s.

Dammit I don't like how this camp is turning out. And dammit Chicago media I want to like Bennett despite his issues, please don't run him out of town.
