  1. The difference possibly being that the Cubs and Devil Rays (feels so retro typing that out) had agreed to the terms of the trade and it was simply between him wanting to stay with Rays or go to Cubs. In terms of the reports out there, it doesn't seem like the Phillies narrowed down to a single team at this point but its possible. I felt bad for McGriff...he debated for a long time (over 3 weeks) whether to come here or stay at home, finally the allure of chasing a title was too much and he accepted the trade. The Cubs went 11-9 during the time he debated (and actually gained 1.5 games in the standings) and he hit as advertised but the Cubs went just 26-30 after he came over and missed the playoffs, then was stuck with the Cubs in 2002 when they lost 97 games. Whoops
  2. Why couldnt he do that [expletive] against us? Oh wait we swept them anyways
  3. Remember folks we're not cheering for the Cardinals, we are cheering against the Giants.
  4. Now let's see how their crappy pitcher does
  5. [tweet] [/tweet] Getting way ahead of myself but don't make any plans on Wednesday, October 7th. To be safe I'd avoid October 9,10,12,13 and 14 as well (that's how they usually do it right? 2 on, 1 off, 3 on?)
  6. Come on CSN (and WGN and ABC), make an agreement. I got a taste of streaming Bulls games on my phone last year and it really makes no sense to be why you can't do this with all sports you are paying to view via cable packages. Especially because it seems like they've uncovered a way to monitize it as well as over the air broadcasts.
  7. Love Toni, and love how he made Chicago his home. I remember when he used to play for the Bucks he would live in Highland Park and commute to Milwaukee for games.
  8. Meh, jealousy I presume. There have also been a lot of comments straight up saying the Cubs got their [expletive] together and have a team to be feared for the next decade while lamenting the state of the White Sox. The weak competition comments are my favorite part as I believe they are 27-18 (.600) vs +500 teams (4-9 agains the Cardinals and 23-9 against everyone else) and 40-31 (.563) against teams under .500. The winning % against +500 teams is 2nd best in the MLB behind the Cardinals.
  9. Yeah I'm in the "make sure you get in" camp of rooting. But really all that matters is the Cubs win and were guaranteed to gain ground somewhere.
  10. It might take 94 wins to make the playoffs in the NL
  11. Guess it's down to 3 teams and 2 playoff spots
  12. Alright since the Pirates are going win per usual, best case the next time we take the field is 8 back of St Louis, 2 back of Pittsburgh, 5 up on the Giants. Worst case is 8 back of St Louis, 3 back of Pittsburgh and 3 ahead of the Giants This is assuming you'd prefer the Cardinals to beat SF
  13. And Fowlers infield single yesterday which was equally obvious
  14. Castro. Your very legacy as a Cub rests on whether or not you homer here
  15. These umps really desperate to give the White Sox a win in this series
  16. Maybe just maybe all the emphasis on showing the strike zone on broadcasts will cause angroundswell for robot umps. At least for balls and strikes
  17. 2 balls were called strikes In that AB. Soler could have easily walked in a run there
