    Because I'm a dork, I'm gaming this out but we're in decent position to win a 3 or 4 team 9-8 tiebreaker with Washington and LA Rams (or 49ers) for the 7th seed lol And if the Packers did lose out and the Bears win out, I think we'd win the tiebreaker. But obviously that's not going to happen. None of this is going to happen but that's especially not gonna happen.

    This is stupid to even suggest but is there a realistic scenario where the Bears could make the playoffs at 9-8? 100% agree there's almost no shot of going 5-0 against this schedule, but would be cool to see the players all get behind Brown and play the kind of football we were hoping they'd play all year. Sort of like the Lions 2 years ago, except we had to fire our coach to get that spark. Edit: And as I hit submit, I'm realizing that the 8-5 Commanders are the 7 seed and 9-3 Packers the 6 seed. So basically theyd need either the Commanders to lose out, or go 1-3 the rest of the season and the Bears win some 3+ team tiebreaker (since they cant win H2H), or the Packers to lose out and the Bears win a tiebreaker.

    I will say that while overall the PC was a typical Bears mess, I did walk away from today with a slightly higher regard for Kevin Warren. He still might be a stiff that can't even get a stadium deal done, he might have went against his instincts and let Poles keep Eberflus this season, but it seems like he recognized today that Poles can't run football operations unchecked and has decided to step in and "help" Poles run the show. No idea if his input will be any good but at least he recognizes that horsefeathers needs to change. Definitely not something Ted Phillips or any of the McCaskeys would ever do.

    Leaving? Like on his own accord? And do what? Shop around his resume of going 14-32 with a spotty draft record? I don't even dislike Poles and am ok with keeping him on (but woudn't be against letting him go other), but nothing about his track record in Chicago suggests he can walk away from the Bears job and have opportunities elsewhere. I'd guess he'd much rather be neutered in Chicago than attempt to find a job elsewhere

    I like that Warren seems to recognize the importance of this particular hire and is taking a hands on approach to finding the best candidate, It just feels like, if true, Poles is being neutered a bit here. Warren has a long history in football but not sure he's a strategic football guy. I guess that's where Poles assisting comes in.

    interesting that there’s no chance a 1 loss team can’t pass a 2 loss team from the same conference but I can’t make a good argument other than 1 is better than 2 and Ohio State has by far the worst loss between them (who by the way Indiana beat) But yeah we’ve never seen a resume quite like Indiana’s. Michigan is the only above .500 team they’ve beaten and they’re 7-5. Every other team on their schedule is pretty bad, even if they blew them all out.

    I had a nice 30 minutes of caring about Bulls basketball when I realized that a) the Bulls could win their in season tournament group with a win and b) they were winning. Deep down I knew that the in season tournament is meaningless and that the Bulls would ultimately lose to Boston but for those 30 minutes I felt excitement about Chicago sports

    How many of them did they actually interview? Like I said my understanding is that they had decided to hire Callahan but had not interviewed 2 minority candidates yet. It’s not the first time that this has happened. The GM being a minority has nothing to do with anything. I’m not accusing anyone of being racist, simply that they felt strongly about hiring Callahan before they had completed their interview process.

    If I recall correctly the Titans were reportedly ready to hire Brian Callahan to the point where some outlets were reporting it and Brown’s interview came after that was starting to leak. I could be wrong and mixing it up with another hire though, and if so I apologize for implying that race was a factor in his candidacy. .

    Concerns about leadership/ownership would be the biggest negative for the bears. We kind of seem like a horsefeathers show of an organization and haven’t been a relevant team since 2012. Having a great looking 2nd year QB and other pieces in place may be enough to override the negatives though.

    Fwiw Brown had head coaching interviews with Houston in 2023 and Tennessee in 2024 so his name isn’t coming out of nowhere, though I get the feeling that at least 1 was Rooney Rule. I am NOT advocating for him by any means. Just saying he’s not completely off the radar as a candidate

    Yep, this feels very similar to Antonio Pierce with the Raiders last year. Players got the coach fired, loved the interim and demanded him. They hired him and the Raiders suck this year. Of course the Bears don’t have Minshew lined up at starting QB but still. I think there’s a higher chance than you hope that Brown is the HC next year.

    My only concern here is that Thomas Brown goes like 3-2 and the Bears hire him without even having a coaching search. Nothing against Thomas Brown and I'm open to him as a candidate but they have a very attractive situation for a top HC to come into. They should have their pick of the litter.

    I was floored when I heard him say that. It’s complete insult to our intelligence to that what we saw out there was handled correctly. Especially with Caleb saying he ended up changing the play call after he received it. Doesn’t sound like something that was happened the right way. Based on what I’m reading, they wanted to run a similar play as the one they called before, just with people blocking this time, a QB draw. They were at about 58 yard FG distance at that point so while it’s possible Caleb breaks off a decent chunk (keeping in mind the most he can run is maybe 10 yards given the time constraints), you’re probably looking at a 3-5 yard gain. So this great plan Eberflus cooked up was having Santos try a 53-55 yard FG, close to his career long. So Caleb was right to change out of the play ASAP but not sure Caleb made the right decision to take a full drop back and throw the ball short of the end zone. Should have been looking for a 8-10 yard pass and a quick timeout.

    There’s a world out there where Eberflus is 4-1 against the Lions as head coach 2022 home: bears blow a 24-10 lead with 12 mins left in the game and lose 31-30 on a missed XP. This was the first of Eberflus’ infamous 85%+ win probability loss games 2022 road: lose 41-10 2023 road: bears blow a 26-14 lead with 3 minutes left to lose 31-26 2023 home: actually win 28-13 2024 road: todays debacle All of these games are after the Lions started playing like world beaters. We’ve actually played them extremely well but Eberflus has completely botched 3 of them

    Harbaugh wouldn’t have come to Chicago anyways. The word from Michigan sources is his wife really wanted to return to California and that was a driver in his decision to return to the NFL. But I do agree that the McCaskeys would never hire him

    Source is by no means reliable but If I share these Twitter reports enough maybe it will actually happen Honestly the postgame stuff was almost as damning as the stuff in game. Players openly taking shots at Eberflus combined with Eberflus doubling down on his decisions and taking no accountability. Just an awful look for him.

    Warren is not really a football guy. If Poles wants to fire his coach why stand in his way of doing his job?
