  1. The chances of it being in prime time, especially if we're in it, are probably somewhere between 99.5 and 100 percent. But nothing is official. Again, my only hesitation is that Dodgers/Mets in LA is almost certainly the late game. So if MLB wants Fox to get an AL game in the later 2 games then it might have no choice but to put Cubs/Cards around 4pm
  2. Nope but all 4 series have games on that day. I'm guessing Blue Jays/Rangers will be in the afternoon, and Dodgers/Mets will be the last game (only game played west of the Central time zone). So that would leave Royals/WC and Cubs/Cardinals to fill the late afternoon and Primetime slots. If the Astros win the WC game you can bet the Cubs will be the prime time game. If the Yankees win, I still think it would be Cubs/Cards but there's a chance the draw of NYC market pushes that to primetime. Another consideration, since AL and NL are on different networks, does that mean at least 1 AL game has to be in the later 2 games? That would change everything
  3. Wow only $64 to get in the door? Shows you how spoiled the Cardinals are. I bet you don't get in the door at Wrigley for under $200
  4. I keep seeing NL wild Card vs Cardinals and it hits me that we are one freaking win from playing our most hated rivals in a playoff series for the first time ever. But I cannot get excited about it until we get through the WC.
  5. So between 1996 (first full season of Wild Card) and 2014, the most wins a non-playoff team had in a season was 96 by the 1999 Reds, but they got to play a 1 game playoff and lost, so it was almost the same thing as the current format. Other than that, 3 teams won 93 games and didn't make it, and the average number of wins for the best non playoff team each year is 89
  6. This is a good point. The NFL multiple times has had 10-6 teams miss the playoffs while an 8-8 team gets to host a playoff game. Heck even two 11-5 teams have missed the playoffs before, which boggles my mind. The NBA and NHL are a lot better but they let over half the league in the playoffs and they still get complaints about who is seeded where.
  7. Seriously. This is my favorite playoff format of any sport. It's darn near perfect. My only real disagreement with the current structure is the LDS being 5 games. The only reason we hate the wild card as much as we do right now is because we won 97 games while there are an 88 and 90 win teams advancing to the LDS. If we won 85 games and snuck in we'd be so thankful for such a wonderful opportunity for a young improving team. (Yes I know the Cubs wouldn't even be in the previous playoff format, my point is just as a 97 win team I feel like we are a good bit better than teams like the Rangers and Mets who get to go straight to the LDS)
  8. that's less exciting and almost equally flukish. I know all that but at least playing a minimum of 2 games feels more like the playoffs than this format. If we somehow lost on Wednesday it wouldn't even feel like we were in the playoffs. For instance, the Indians made a playoff appearance a few years ago and lost...to me it feels like they haven't made the playoffs since 2007 or whatever was the last time. All that said I think I prefer 1 game for several reasons. for one, like you said it doesn't make the result any less random especially if they do that double header thing that people are proposing. Second, it puts the WC team at even less of an advantage having to burn your best 2-4 starters instead of 1. Heck if the 3 game series was on Tues and Wed and the LDS starts on Friday you are likely matching up their 1st starter with your 4th and their 2nd with your 5th the first 2 games.
  9. Yeah it is really get an evaluation on your team when your first 3 games are against 3 of the best in the conference. Add to that you had maybe the worst backup QB in the league taking half the snaps in those 3 games and number 1 WR only playing 3 quarters and we really don't have a good handle on this team. So while it was somewhat understandable that people were calling us the worst team in the league, I didn't think that was fair with all things above considered. We still don't really know how good they are but we will find out soon
  10. Agreed. Cards win game 2. Cubs take 1,3,4. that'd be ideal. i want to see a damn series win at wrigley. Considering we've won one playoff round in the last 107 years I'll take a series win in any capacity but at Wrigley would be extra nice
  11. A game 5 win in St. Louis might be the best thing to ever happen in sports. I'd trade a previously won Bulls and Blackhawks title for this to happen.
  12. ^^ that is awesome. Jake is awesome and he knows it
  13. Ok matchups are now locked in AL Wild Card Game: Houston Astros (86-76) at New York Yankees (87-75) NL Wild Card Game: Chicago Cubs (97-65) at Pittsburgh Pirates (98-64) ALDS 1: Texas Rangers (88-74) at Toronto Blue Jays (93-69) ALDS 2: Astros/Yankees at Kansas City Royals (95-67) NLDS 1: New York Mets (90-72) at Los Angeles Dodgers (92-70) NLDS 2: Chicago Cubs (97-65) at St. Louis Cardinals (100-62) Quick 1st round predictions: Yankees 6, Astros 2 Cubs 5, Pirates 1 Blue Jays over Rangers 3-0 Royals over Yankees 3-2 Dodgers over Mets 3-1 [expletive] it..Cubs over Cardinals 3-2 Won't dare predict from that point on
  14. Astros with 2 on and 0 outs trailing 5-3 in the 9th. If they come back and the Yankees score holds, the WC game is in Houston, otherwise it's in NY
  15. So everything is official except home field in the AL Wild Card game (I'm calling the Royals and Blue Jays games that both involve 5+ run lead/deficits with less than 3 outs to go) Yankees are losing 7-4, Astros losing 5-3
  16. It's official, 97 win team has to play a single elimination game on the road to make the rest of the playoffs. Not as mad as I am dumbfounded that this unlikely of a scenario occurred
  17. Bryant!!! Last good chance for Reds, 2 on and 2 out for Phillips in 8th Edit: Phillips grounds out weakly. I will enjoy the 20 minutes that we are 0.5 GB the Pirates
  18. Now they are going to magically find 2 ERs not charged to Hendricks bringing his ERA above 4
  19. For fun, I went back and looked up the 13 PAs with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs this weekend. The Cubs were 4-12-1 at getting the run home (I'm calling a walk with runners at the corners that doesn't score a run a neutral outcome) 3 of the times we succeeded it was on a base hit, the other time it was Castro grounding into a DP today. The times we failed: -popout -fielders choice -5 strikeouts -foul out So overall 33% rate of getting the run home, which is only slightly worse than our season average of 41%.
  20. Seriously I cannot stress enough how disappointing the outcomes of these games are so far :(
  21. How many different ways can the Cubs not bring a runner home from 3rd? lol
  22. last chance for number 100. I'm sure Berry is in the game to get into scoring position specifically to give Bryant a good shot.
  23. 3-0 Pirates now. Oh well, we will shut up their stupid fans if the Reds can't come back.
  24. Jay Bruce is a replacement level player this year. This is true, but with the Reds needing runs, Bruce (who was due up 2nd) next inning is a better fit than this Holt guy who has a career OPS of .508 and a minor league OPS of .718.
