  1. Jesus does Niewenfuk really need to bunt for hits against us?
  2. This talk made me think about the 2003 Braves, who won 101 games and got bounced by the 88-win Cubs. Which made me try to remember Game 5 of that series, of which I could really only remember Borowski closing it out. So I looked it up on B-R and of course Dusty Baker sent Wood out there for the 8th with 106 pitches already thrown and a three-run lead. So basically now I'm just remembering how much I hate Dusty Baker and how much I love how our pitching is being managed this year. I might be crucified for this but in a winner take all game and a very shaky pen, I'm not necessarily opposed to Wood pitching the 8th in that situation.
  3. And also our two best relievers other than Chapman have been injured for the majority of that time. Grimm's last 24 appearances: 20.2 IP, 1 ER, 10 H, 6 BB, 28 K, 3 XBH, 0.44 ERA, .425 OPS against This is our 6th inning guy in the playoffs... you know the 6th inning we won't even need a reliever to pitch in.
  4. Yep, I can totally see the "How were we so wrong about the Bears?" articles being written in mid-November. It doesn't mean I think it will necessarily happen, but I definitely think your scenario above is a realistic one.
  5. I just don't see it. The Bears might be bad, but with their schedule and FA improvements on defense, it would have to take significant misfortune for the Bears to be very bottom of the league bad IMO
  6. Per Maddon's radio show on 670, Russell and Bryant are resting today
  7. I don't want any of those teams in the playoffs. Stupid Marlins couldn't hold it together. The Mets current rotation is Noah Syndergaard, Bartolo Colon and three guys I've never heard of. yeah but deGrom and Matz hypothetically should be back for the playoffs although there seems to keep being setbacks for both of them. I see a scenario where they are both back for a series against the Cubs but they aren't very sharp and we crush them. Still, if they are back and throwing well deGrom, Matz, Syndergaard, Colon, deGrom is fairly formidable. Just not enough to beat the Super Cubs. They really dont scare me. Even their offense is a shell of the mediocre bunch that faced the Cubs last year.
  8. yep i think you have to have a log in to look at game threads, and the one i had got banned years ago for just posting "he gone" when crede struck out in a big spot against the cubs in like 08 or 07. last time i tried signing up i couldn't get approved. I mean, I totally get "I don't like team X, therefore their fanbase are a bunch of turds;" plenty of us do that here, ESPECIALLY with the Cardinals. But I can't even really explain well why WSI seems so unsettling. It's a combination of "we don't [expletive] care about those guys, and let's keep reminding ourselves of that" and these continual bizarre attempts to over-explain the psychology or groupthink of Cubs fans to a really creepy level. I can't imagine being that hung up on another FANBASE. Not a team...their fans. I lived in Chicago for close to a decade, knew plenty of White Sox fans (hell, basically the entire side of my mom's family are Sox fans), encountered plenty of Sox fans, and yet not once had a single experience along the lines of what poster after poster brings up there. They seem to just be trying to trump each other with stories of how cruel, rampaging Cubs fans have abused them, which is just a depressingly masochistic type of fandom I don't want to know. Sad sack, lovable loser-type Cubs fans are bad enough, but this is something else. Man this is so well written about WSI. They are really weird delusional people. Back when the tribune owned the Cubs, one of their posters used to keep a daily count of articles written about the cubs vs. articles written about the sox in the 'cubune' as a way to prove their strong bias toward the Cubs. Now its just ranting and raving about the fans and they especially hate joe maddon and 'see through his gimmicks'
  9. Tracking relevant Cub teams through 137 games: 2016: 89-48 2015: 80-57 2008: 85-52 2007: 70-67 2004: 74-63 2003: 71-66 2001: 77-60 1998: 75-62 1989: 77-60 1984: 83-54 1969: 84-53 1945: 86-51 1938: 77-60 1935: 85-52 1932: 81-56 1929: 92-45 1910: 92-45 1908: 85-52 1907: 97-38 1906: 105-32 1966: 48-89 (worst Cubs team) Recorded needed to win.. 90: 1-24 95: 6-19 97: 8-17 98: 9-16 100: 11-14 103: 14-11 105: 16-9 110: 21-4 Current pace: 105-57 .500 rest of way: 102-60 (13-12) or 101-61 (12-13)
  10. 5 dongless days and still 4-1 over that stretch. We rule
  11. offense get going again plz. We destroyed this guy 2 weeks ago when we faced him.
  12. Shocked that nieuwenheis got a hit against us
  13. Other magic numbers: At least a playoff spot - 9 HFA through NLCS -18
  14. Might as well start this one since its game week. I think we would all prefer there to be actual expectations for this season but let's be honest there are few this year. John Fox second year, Pace's 2nd draft etc. Bears also have an easy schedule so I would think last years 6-10 is the absolute floor for this year but maybe I'm being optimistic. Bears have never beaten the Texans in 3 tries. The last time we faced them, these teams had the 2 best records in the league. The last time we faced them in Houston we needed to win to make the playoffs and didn't. That's all I got. Go Bears.
  15. Nope. We will be signing someone off the street and starting them week 1 I'm assuming they are saving money by doing this then? Weird timing if you haven't even worked out other kickers Apparently he was awful in practices during training camp. Bears were probably going to try to ride with him this year but given last year and this preseason, he forced them to change their thinking.
  16. Yeah. So uh do we even have another kicker on the roster? Nope. We will be signing someone off the street and starting them week 1
  17. Damn. Dude did everything to lose it but actually lose it
  18. Giants will be a tough out if Cueto and Bumgarner pitch 3 of 5 games. Too bad we have Jake Jon and Kyle pitching 4 times
  19. Oh and 17-1 on M-F during that stretch
  20. Completely useless stats that only I would find and care about but still post to NSBB for mocking anyways: The Cubs are 1-6 in their last 7 weekend games coming into today.
