  1. Confirmed, torn ACL. Tough loss to lose an .850 OPS catcher for the playoffs and probably start of next year. The one small benefit is they go from a slightly below average pitch framer to an above average one. Either way, the Nats are still dangerous but I think the Dodgers are now the clear top challenger to the Cubs in the playoffs, although one series at a time.
  2. Assuming he's backing up Howard unless Carey is back. Actually even if Carey is back I think Howard is the lead back while Langford is out.
  3. Rooftop ticket for $150 for NLDS Game 1? Hmmmm even if its one of the blocked rooftops it might not be bad deal if I'm planning to be there anyways. Ample TVs and free food and drinks. https://www.groupon.com/deals/gl-cubs-playoffs
  4. I was going to put a disclaimer that i probably forgot someone important. I couldn't believe how relatively easy it was to fit Smith on the postseason roster. Well it is when you don't put on one of your best relievers.
  5. Let's revive this with about 10 days until the NLDS starts. I think there have been some changes since early September. 1) I think Miggy is a lock now, and could quite possibly be the main starter at catcher 2) Coghlan has surpassed La Stella as the first lefty bat off the bench IMO. La Stella might still make it but if he has to choose between the 2, based on how Maddon has used them recently it seems to be Cogs 3) I think Joe really wants to get Joe Smith on the postseason roster 4) If Soler's injury is more serious than thought, his absence might open up a spot for a borderline positional player like Almora So here is my projection Position Players Starters C - Montero 1B - Rizzo 2B/OF - Zobrist 3B/OF - Bryant SS - Russell 2B/3B - Baez CF - Fowler RF - Heyward Bench C: Ross, Contreras IF: LaStella OF: Coghlan, Szczur, Soler Pitchers Starters 1. Lester 2. Hendricks 3. Arrieta 4. Lackey Bullpen CL: Chapman SU: Rondon SU: Strop SU: Edwards SU: Grimm LHP: Montgomery LHP: Wood Toughest omissions (no order): Almora, Cahill, Hammel, Zastryzny, Schwarber, Smith
  6. [tweet] [/tweet] This seems ominous
  7. http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/the_next_20/2016/09/fire_joe_morgan_and_the_moneyball_revolution.html?wpisrc=burger_bar Interesting look back at the legacy of FJM and how much has changed since their blog shut down
  8. More Mets Refugee fun: So many rebuttals. Learn about injury nexus. It's not iron clad but it will tell you why our old starting staff remained mostly healthy and your young staff of flamethrowers got hurt. Strange how deGrom, Syndergaard, Wheeler, Matz, etc have all had fairly significant injuries but Colon has made just about every start. I will say that even with the Mets building around young pitchers they've been slightly unlucky, and even with the Cubs having an older staff they've been a bit fortunate. But then he goes on to say Theo is ridiculous luck + money. Hahaha I wont even offer a rebuttal to that. Actually a whole thread talking about If the Cubs win the WS: http://www.metsrefugees.com/forum/showthread.php?t=122509&highlight=cubs
  9. Yeah I know its not a competitive offer, but its an offer over face, and presumably some people don't want to go through the hassle of listing on stubhub/craigslist etc and would rather make it quick and easy while helping a Cub fan. No one wants to panic when their stubhub tickets aren't selling and the prices are dropping and you just want to get rid of them at whatever profit you can so you don't have to worry about it anymore. I've been there before. Either way I know its a shot in the dark, but my odds are 0% if I don't try and maybe 1% if I do :)
  10. There's a Promotions folder? Yeah mine was there. Between my wife, me, my brother, and friends we had about 15 email addresses and all were rejections. I think I read somewhere it was about a 20-1 chance of being selected. Not including this board, I know about 45 people/email addresses that registered, and not one won. I keep trying to offer up $100+face value for a single ticket to people that won on Reddit, twitter and here, but I'm probably offering much less than what the scalpers are. Really want to go but can't break the bank more than $100+face so looks like I'm SOL for the division series :(
  11. I did that like 6 years ago in a 10 team private league where I lead the league in pts scored, but ended up like 8th/9th. I'll have to look at my fantasy history and try to find that. That was a very frustrating year. Basically you played guys who had their season high pts total against you. EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK! Then the following week, those guys would score like 30+ pts less. I'm glad someone else has seen this. At the end of the day I ended up finishing 11 points behind most points in the league for the season so at least I'm not 1st in points, last in the league.
  12. I'm reminded why I hate these threads
  13. You guys are forgetting that this is like spring training. ESPECIALLY in a blowout like this he is working on things trying to be sharp before the LDS starts.
  14. You know if you can't make it...I know someone who would love to go :)
  15. Assuming he's done he finishes with 1.99 ERA
  16. The Cubs offense really went to crap after they loaded the bases with 0 outs for the second time in the inning
  17. Wow it's hitting me that we have a 5 run lead and the MLB's ERA leader by a large margin on the bump. I...I think we are going to win 100 games
  18. Come on Kyle. Give up a hit to the pitcher and then kid rock. Not good form
  19. How many games was Bryant stuck on 99 RBI last year? 7? At some point in early September Bryant was on pace for like 117 RBI That was an awful AB...
  20. Javy deserved much better that AB. 12 pitch at bat with 3-4 hard hit foul balls including one that went 450 feet just foul. Finally lines one up the middle for an easy hit but it deflects off the pitcher right to the SS for an out.
  21. Dee Gordon homered to lead off Marlins first and was basically bawling around the bases. This is heart wrenching to watch
