  1. Are there still openings? What site do you play on? ...and how bad are the team's keepers?
  2. And if you get sick of just watching dongs all day (I know, purely hypothetical) skip to 4:00 on this set of highlights: Addison Russell Ridiculousness
  3. I've spent a lot of time watching full games and highlights. Out of all of the HRs hit in the post-season, the two swings that were the most insane (context of the game, excluded) were Baez's blast, and that one HR Schwarber hit...no, not that one, or that other one. The one off Harvey. High and outside FB yanked into right for like 700 feet. Insane.
  4. Despite the lower walk rate, Parra has a signficantly better K-BB% for his career and even last year. He strikes out hitters better than Richard doesn't walk them between the two. While Richard gets more groundballs in general, they give up HRs at a similar rate too for the career, with Richard older and more prone to getting beat on his fastball. As a reliver hitters hit .294/.333/.431 against him last year. Keep in mind that Richard was a scrapheap minor league deal pickup himself, he could leave as quickly as he came. A walk is more of a bad result than a K is a good one, so K-BB isn't exactly the whole story, but I get what you are saying. I was surprised to see that Streamer has Parra pegged at a slightly better FIP for next year (but slightly worse ERA). It is nice to have options.
  5. Richard doesn't make batters miss. Only one pitch with a whiff rate over 10% and batters put both his fastball and cutter in the air. Last year was a nice run, but he's one of the guys most likely to take a step back on the pitching staff this year. Sure, with a much lower walk rate over his career. If Parra can beat him out of the spot, great, but I just doubt it happens.
  6. Really? Richards throws just as hard out of the pen, and he was pretty excellent last year for us.
  7. Holy [expletive], what a melon. And he's just sucking in his glorious, jiggly gut. But that other guy is playing the game wrong! You have to hold that below waist level or aren't allowed to hit them.
  8. Is it a conflict of interest for Safelite to be working with us? I figured the Cardinals probably had them on retainer, what with all the broken windshields they have had to deal with. http://blakesnow.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2015/05/thumbs-up-gif.gif
  9. Surprised it's not in the 91-93 range. Not sure what Vegas was last year but the Nationals were 93.5 online and the Dodgers were 92.5. I'm putting money on the over. And the under on the Royals.
  10. At 2:10 I was checking like mad to see what other window I had open was getting that interview audio.
  11. http://31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2rp7dKH391qhz348.gif Pretty accurate, but there were a few wrestlers and boxers on the team that just ran to get in shape for the winter.
  12. My High School cross country team had a fight club. ...it wasn't racist, but it also wasn't a baseball team in Texas. This is not surprising.
  13. The "Geovany Soto"meme was and always shall be the purest and most amazing meme this site will ever have. The nay-sayers don't understand joy. It wasn't JUST the orgasmic season he had, but his NAME too. There simply wasn't anything more or better to be said at the time.
  14. Damn. This podcast is basically required listening for anyone who frequents this board.
  15. I blame Chris Correa.
  16. I guess because it wasn't clear until just now how high this went up. For a director level employee to be pleading guilty is ... kinda a big deal. Imagine if you were the Astros!?
  17. The hidden columns show what Cubs pitchers go with that forecast and comp. The top ones are pretty easy. ...but why should I care that Arrieta is as good as some random year of Oral? Or that (maybe) Hendricks is as good as a feisty pock-marked turncoat? I can't see the mystery column so why should I give a flying poo? Most of those names mean absolutely nothing to me.
  18. Sooooo glad to see the above gif after reading that tweet. I THINK I might have half a clue what the tweeter was attempting to do, but I have 0% of a clue what insight the actual stats and comps in the tweet should provide.
  19. The only way to bet on the Cubs and get anything approaching positive EV is on over-under win totals (as the Vegas tourists from Chicago don't bet on lines like that...I took the over on the Cubs last year, and the under on the Reds)
  20. I suppose it mostly depends on how Bryant and Baez look in the OF this year, and if Zobrist looks better than Baez at 3B. Honestly, I don't see the point of moving Bryant to the OF on a regular basis (in the near future) as awesome as hes been at 3B. Just let the better defensive alignment happen beween Zobrist and Baez at 2B and OF. That said, with the way that Maddon likes to move players around, I don't think we should spend much time worrying about where a player is going to be "locked in" in the future. Guys like Baez, Zobrist, Heyward, and Bryant are going to move around, and it will be fun for all involved.
  21. More projection porn: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chicago-cubs-jason-heyward-kris-bryant-anthony-rizzo-have-the-makings-of-a-dynasty-121415
  22. We can expect Soler's defense to be better in 2016, right? Simply because it can't get any worse...right?
  23. I was on team "DFA Castro, he's worthless" during mid season. When I heard he was traded immediately after signing Zobrist, I assumed it was a total salary dump. The more I read about Warren (especially the Fangraphs pitch fx breakdown) the more glad I am that I am not in charge of the Cubs. Stuff-wise, Warren is probably our #4 SP. And a good one at that!
  24. Yeah, put Miller and Warren next to each other and stare at them for a while. Give your eyes a rest and then put Castro (and his contract) next to Inciarte, Swanson, and Blair. Ponder this. (Also, Harris, I guess)
