    Not even close to that low. IIRC, I don't think their odds of winning the ALCS as a whole ever dropped below 1%

    The difficult part is four teams ahead of the Cubs. There are enough examples in baseball history of a team overcoming six games to win a playoff spot over one team. But it requires both the chasing team to win a lot of games and the leading team to lose them. In this case, we'd not only have to win a lot of games, but we'd require four separate teams to lose a whole bunch, too. It's just not going to happen. No, the issue is the 6.5 games with 18 left. The Braves and Marlins are close enough that any making up of 6.5 games would involve the Cubs passing them. Additionally the Cubs have 4 games with the Giants. Unless you're counting on an epic Rockies collapse, the other 3 teams don't matter.

    Calling up Adduci would have been a waste. I don't see him being at risk in rule 5, and he's not a minor league free agent (I don't think)

    I love when people come up with the idea of no preseason top 25. Like they're going to ban the AP from publishing rankings, it's a ridiculous idea.

    Prior to 2006, DeRosa was a career role player who was given an opportunity to start in Texas and made the most out of it. That earned im a big contract, that was ill advised at the time. It payed off, and it made Hendry look good. Similarly, prior to 2008, Aaron Miles was a career role player who had a pretty good year last year after getting a lot of playoff time. Hendry thought he could try the same thing, with a smaller contract. We all know how that turned out. Miles was never signed to be a starter, DeRosa was.

    Hartford would seem to be the best bet, but it's within 2 hours of Jersey, Boston, and New York. There's no chance at survival in the northern New England states, so I'd agree there's really not a great option.

    You have absolutely have to expand in Jersey if you expand. I wouldn't mind putting a 2nd team in New England either.

    This is anecdotal evidence. Z is no more prone to the big inning than anyone else. The fact that Zambrano gets all pissy when he does have a big inning makes people remember it. While I don't have any statistical evidence, I think it is reasonable to say that a pitcher who maintains his composure through adversity is more likely to minimize damage in an inning than someone who loses his composure. Depends on your definition of "losing your composure" I've made the post like 10 times on this board about how somebody who loses their composure when things go against them would have an abnormally high # of unearned runs due to melting down after an error is made. Zambrano does not.
