Can someone reference something that I can read as to why this is. I've seen the argument made lots of times - but never read anything indepth. It comes down to outs being the most important thing, most specifically not making them. I get that, but, you can't avoide making them - it is impossible - a team is going to make an out roughly 66% of time. You are obviously going to have stretches where a team is going to do much better than that but its going to even out in the end. That's probably the one certainty in baseball - outside the home half of the 9th and beyond you are going to make 3 outs. In my head - which is why I am looking for some reading material - what you do with the "non-outs" is more important than simply making one or not making one. But not every team does make outs 66% of the time. Getting on base 35.5% of the time like the Yankees have this year makes a big difference compared to the Astros getting on 29.6% of the time.

Without going into the actual studies behind it, you can only add to your OBP by getting on base (not making an out) You can add to your SLG by getting an extra base. So 1-4 with a double makes your SLG equal to an OBP with 2-4 for 2 singles. The one base isn't worth the one out.

Scott Moore was a decent prospect. And Farnsworth had way more value when being traded from the Tigers than coming off a bad season with the Cubs.

Exactly. The guy is going to be the 5th big man in the Bulls interior rotation. All you're really looking for in that role is some toughness and a guy who isn't going to be a liability out there for ten minutes a game. If the alternative is Chris Richard or Josh Boone or someone along those lines, I think the Bulls did just fine here. Yeah but he's also the 'holy crap omer asik kind of sucks' backup plan. Decent chance he is our backup center. Big downgrade from Noah. I wish one of our centers was a more traditional type scorer. But I guess since we have Boozer its a little more acceptable. Can Kurt Thomas hit a midrange jumper? What team actually has a good backup center? The Magic do. Other than that, I can't really think of a team that has one. Thomas has made a living out of hitting baseline shots and midrange jumpers. The Celtics will have a good backup center when Perkins gets healthy, but yeah not many teams do. I do understand the concern when Boozer hasn't been the healthiest guy in his career, and the frontcourt depth is a 38 year old and untested Euro. (Am I blanking on somebody else?) ETA: Duh, Gibson

What is the cap space (from Curry's expiring + dumping a slug) going to do for New Orleans? Who's going to want to go play for the one of the worst teams in the NBA in a not so great market.

Those picks get a hell of a lot less valuable if you're giving them a superteam. Are expiring contracts are going to have the same value they used to given the uncertainty of the new CBA?

Mo and KRod, almost. Making $13m in arbitration is unlikely, but getting that much in free agency is possible if he maintains his level of performance for the next few years. Remember, the last year of arbitration is 100% of market value. It's not like earlier arb years where there's a discout involved. No arbiter is going to give a guy with less than 100 career saves 13M

He loses points for having an idiot managing his teams. But, even the idiot can assemble line ups that win more games than the Cubs. So, what does that say about our management group? I think Ozzie Guillen is an above average GM. Very Underrated by Cubs fans

You think Heyward has it locked up? Strasburg and Garcia have to be in consideration. Heyward or Strasburg are just too far ahead for Castro to have a chance unless he goes on a REALLY insane tear the rest of the year. Heyward isn't that far ahead of Castro if at all.
