  1. Erik perhaps if you weren't saying "ONLY THE CUBS" after losses in August of '08, people would pay attention to you. You're naming ridiculously specific events, which similar stuff could be brought up about virtually every other team in baseball, both on the positive and negative side.
  2. Ok, that was clearly tongue in cheek
  3. Hawks have an awful lot of bandwagon fans at the moment. That I can understand, but I've seen people who've played hockey much of their lives saying this. Like Jersey, I'm far from an expert at hockey, but this just seems like common sense. It's people falling in love with what happened in the playoffs, and thinking that Byfuglien and Niemi were the reason this team was so good.
  4. I've seen multiple people on facebook claim the Hawks won't make the playoffs. I guess I assumed since hockey had less fans than the other big 3 that there weren't as many morons, but maybe not
  5. And how long does that go on? I don't want to be the Yankees trotting out Bob Shepard's corpse after he's gone. I really don't care much one way or another about the stretch, but I think it'd be pretty absurd to have a guy who's been dead for 60 years "leading" the crowd in the seventh inning stretch.
  6. Nah, Erik's got me pegged. I'm pretty sure the Cubs are coming back to win the whole thing. GO CUBS GO!! Let's get drunk in the bleachers!!! When's Sammy up to bat?
  7. Considering only one of the stats you mentioned had the Cubs as the leader, doesn't that disprove your Only The Cubs, woe is me [expletive]?
  8. I've multiple times seen it referred to as "the dreaded vote of confidence" by media members. They understand it's a nothing term.
  9. I'm thinking media members, not fans. And it's not so much being upset about firing Hendry, but more finding out why he gave the vote of confidence and then fired him. This happens virtually every year across every sport, and you never hear a peep about it from the media. Nobody cares
  10. That makes it sound like they're not going straight geographically for football. I don't like it.
  11. Again. Poops himself in public again.
  12. Picking nits, but Soriano's performance is only poor relative to his contract. He's had one below average year, and that was when he played the season on one leg.
  13. It's too late now, but I can't see the logice in keeping Shiancoe
  14. They wanted 4 million at the hearing while the Hawks just signed a goalie with comparable (in some cases) better numbers for 1.3 million. How is that overvalue? If I had to bet, he's going to sign for less per year than 2.75 otherwise I think the Hawks would have signed and traded him at that number. Whatever teams that are interested in him have to believe they can do better than that number. The market on goalie's contracts is down. They offered 4M at the hearing, it didn't mean they were expecting it. You seem to think he should've signed with the Hawks for 2M. If he gets more than that on the open market then the agent played it right. (financially speaking)
  15. I'd imagine Niemi gets more than the 2M the Hawks offered, so I don't see how his agent overvalued him.
  16. No their player development was terrible up until about 3 years ago. Partially a function of ownership refusing to spend on the draft, and partially a function of Ed Creech having manure for brains
  17. Just because he was a short white guy doesn't mean he had lesser talents and got the most out of what he had. You risk arbitration with Lilly because he's going to be 35 and this is his last shot at a multi-year deal. He's not taking a 1 year contract to add more wear on his arm, and be another year older as he looks for one last payday.
  18. Lilly would win arbitration if the team offered 9.6M, and then the team has Lilly for 15M for one year, which isn't bad, but if you don't have it in your budget to drop 15M on a pitcher, it really messes things up.
  19. Frostwyrm is laughing maniacally at you all from his secluded cabin in Montana
  20. Was that Bob Brenly eschewing the sacrifice bunt, and pretty much openly mocking Baylor?
  21. This is multiple times I've seen it brought up here that minor league LD% is unreliable. Why are these people arguing this point assuming that it's lower than what's being reported? Is there a reason to think minor league LD% are higher than they should be rather than lower?
  22. Kerry Wood isn't a real man like benchwarmer
  23. And to reiterate my stance from yesterday, Blake DeWitt [expletive] sucks
