  1. The biggest showdowns between Dusty Baker teams and the Cardinals were the '02 playoffs. (Dusty won), the '03 stretch run (Dusty won), and now this year. Maybe LaRussa should stop being such a hotheaded prick and his team would stop following suit The Cardinals are going to win the division because Brandon Phillips made them angry?? They're not the Hulk
  2. Maybe the Reds should try hurting good players next fight.
  3. Is this the part of the thread where BBB posts a bunch of paragraphs about stuff he doesn't know about?
  4. How much do you think you'll be paying Ball State in revenue sharing in a few years?
  5. Wasn't responding to you with regards to the declines. Lumafia was the one who mentioned that point.
  6. It's like everyone's devolving to their meathead roots because they saw a fight. Brandon Phillips can't just go 6 for 10 because he hates the Cardinals. Hey way to back it up over a random 10 at bat sampling Brandon!!! Oooh the Cardinals are angry, now they're going to win the world series!! This one's for Daryl!!
  7. Maybe it's like CNBC where there's always breaking news. Breaking News: Dow up 0.1%
  8. That's a tough call. The 2006 team probably had more god awful players, but they also had prime or near prime Zambrano, Lee and Ramirez plus some other useful players. They had a questionable pitching staff but a number of quality arms, some of which disappeared or changed roles. And of course they also had a nearly unprecedented ability to take on more payroll in that offseason. So the quality of the roster was probably overall a little worse, but with a much better position to add to the team. I'm not talking about ability to add to the team. I'm talking on a pure talent level. When somebody says we need to add 2 top-line starters, a top tier 1B and good bullpen arms, all while nobody declines in order to be contender, that tells me they think this team is far worse off than '06.
  9. So is it your belief that this team is in worse shape than the 2006 team?
  10. As opposed to St. Louis
  11. The Cubs should just start fighting the Cardinals at random the rest of the season. Not just during games, like as they're stumbling out of bars trying to fit the key into the ignition.
  12. I still don't believe that.
  13. How many veteran teams are you watching on a regular basis? And did he sleep through the 2004 season?
  14. Oh, and to respond to the part earlier about the Cubs needing Cliff Lee + Adrian Gonzalez + 2 more good players to contend. The 2006 Cubs won 66 games, and added nobody close to Lee or Gonzalez's levels. They only won 85 games, which isn't enough pretty much any year, but it's not as dire as some people are trying to make it out to be.
  15. Hey guys, I was just getting in the face of an opposing player and screaming at him, I didn't mean for anything to come of it!
  16. yessss Maybe he'll die. Wait, nevermind, it was Larue, hopefully he lives.
  17. I don't know, preseason maybe? Concert season?
  18. Rebuilding is stupid when you have a 130M payroll. Unless Jim somehow convinces Ricketterbilt to give him another $50 mil to play with, he is going to HAVE to move Zambrano and Fukudome. He needs a big time 1B, at least 1 top of the rotation starter, to hope that we can improve the bullpen from within and everybody else on the team that had a career year to repeat, and for Soriano not to regress. Rebuilding to me means going young and not trying to win. There's no reason to not put out the best team possible next year. You don't go throwing 8 year contracts out there, but there's no reason to not pursue a Gonzalez/Dunn/Lee, whomever. You honestly think we need a 180M payroll to have a good shot next year? That's madness
  19. Rebuilding is stupid when you have a 130M payroll.
  20. Look, I hate Blake DeWitt too, but how is he considered limited production from 2B. What are you expecting out of a 2B? Why are one of Soriano or Byrd good bets to OPS lower than 800? And did I miss the explanation showing that our pitching wasn't much better than the worst in the league?
  21. Agreed, but I can't think of four "solid moves" that could be made. Gonzalez and Lee would be two. But it would take at least one more player of that magnitude and perhaps two to turn this team around. I don't think the Cubs would have the cash or the prospects to pull another one off. You think the Cubs are 2 MVP candidates AND 2 Cy Young candidates away from being a contender?
  22. Fine Brandon, I'll root for you guys
  23. No. Not unless he has a great week at Whistling Straits. His play right now combined with the distraction would leave him off the team if I were captain. I agree that's probably the smart thing to do if winning is the only goal. But if exposure and TV ratings are another goal, and we all know there are, there will be a lot of pressure on Pavin to at least offer Woods one of the captain's picks. He's also the best player. You can add another nobody to the bottom of the roster in his place, but you're probably better off seeing if Tiger can regain his form in a couple months. Maybe he needs a team atmosphere to do it instead of the world against Tiger situation he's been in since Thanksgiving. Maybe his teammates won't want to have to deal with him and the drama?
  24. No, he's not valuable. He's not hurting the team, but he's not valuable. It's your stance that Soriano is bringing no value to the team?
  25. Minnesota Wake Forest Northwestern/GA Tech - I don't have a clue what GT looks like. I'd lean towards NU. Ohio State Clemson Illinois Boston College Wisconsin Purdue Maryland Duke Moral of the story, the bottom of the Big 10 is awful.
