  1. Does Hendry not understand how this process works? He probably thinks it's ungentlemanly to lower a player's value on the FA market like that.
  2. Jesus, that's even worse. If they traded Z for just Perez, without throwing in any money? I think I'd take that. And for all the times people here have flipped out in recent years about the Cubs trading a player away (Sosa, DeRosa, Bradley, Jose Ceda, Will Ohman), have any of them really come back to hurt them? Sosa for Fontenot was a fine deal, because Sosa was totally done and Fontenot has contributed some. DeRosa brought a nice return. Bradley has been a disaster for Seattle and Silva has been pretty good. Jose Ceda hasn't done a thing in Florida. Will Ohman, meh. I think the two worst trades Hendry has made are Juan Pierre (obviously) and Angel Pagan (no one saw that coming). Far more often than not, the Cubs do well on the trade market. Edit- The Greg Maddux trade sucked, too. Forgot about that. I'm not necessarily saying that this makes trading Z for nothing a good idea, but the constant cries of "HERE WE GO AGAIN TIME TO MAKE YET ANOTHER TERRIBLE TRADE LIKE ALWAYS" ring pretty empty. Mike Wuertz
  3. Chill. What are your expectations from Zambrano going forward though the end of his deal? 3.50-4.20 ERA pitching 160-200 innings a year. Definitely not worth his contract, but certainly worth more than eating more than half of it and getting nothing in return
  4. I'm NOT PISSED ABOUT THE GOD DAMN LEAK
  5. Do you really think it was a secret around MLB that the Cubs would like to trade him if possible? Like I said, its is far from an ideal situation, but I don't think a Twitter post blew the secret that Cubs might want to move him. It's not the twitter post that informed the league, it's the Cubs informing the league that led to the twitter post. This team can't keep going into offseasons intent on trading away assets. It's horrible business. I don't think the Cubs had to tell the league. Looking at his production, salary, and other issues tells teams all they need to know that Cubs would probably like to move him if possible. I don't give a [expletive] about "telling the league" I care that once again the Cubs head into the offseason seeing how much worse they can make the team because they've convinced themselves they have a problem that's not there.
  6. Letting teams know that you'd trade a guy is pretty far from discussing when they'll have the best market for him. We're going to spend the entire offseason haggling down money on Zambrano, wind up eating 40M, trading him for Chone Figgins and using the savings to sign Vicente Padilla.
  7. [expletive] YOU [expletive] MORONS
  8. MLBTR What will they have left to trade for Brett Myers? Ozney, Oney, and Ozzie Jr
  9. I will say I'm pleasantly surprised that Theriot is being shopped.
  10. If you want a legitamate base stealer, bring back Dwaine Bacon. Base stealing is about 97 on my list of qualities I look for in a prospect
  11. I assume you mean being a seller compared to being a buyer, but that's not really true. When he's not dead-set on getting a major leaguer in return, he's pretty good at it.
  12. Man, Blake DeWitt sucks. This is what happens when your GM fears for his job if he doesn't win soon. He trades for shitty major leaguers cause they'll "help" next season.
  13. As I said they're salesmen. Talking about Zambrano being a jerk gets the drooling masses to buy papers
  14. Brett Myers would fit in well with White Sox fans. (They also beat the [expletive] out of their wives)
  15. When in doubt as to why a reporter/beat writer appears to have an axe to grind, you can assume it's because the player was mean* to them. Sportswriters aren't journalists, they're salesmen. *Mean being anything from ripping him to shreds every time he sees him, to not giving good quotes for his stories.
  16. I was honestly surprised there weren't more guys calling in supporting Pierre. Sports fans are morons.
  17. Was your pun alarm in the shop for a few days?
  18. There's also Soriano, dew who seemingly is hated only because he makes a lot of money.
  19. I know. Posey, Strasburg, Garcia and Heyward would all be shoe-ins any other year. It's like the Marino QB draft class. I don't think Heyward would deserve the last 6 NL ROY awards. Strasburg on the DL would probably torpedo his chances those years too
  20. I wish that was guaranteed next year. I'd love to jump on Berkman with the Stros picking up some freight in that scenario
  21. I thought Wallace was a really shitty centerpiece for a guy like Matt Holliday
  22. I would pay money to hear a tape of this. When B+B find them selves on the right side of an argument with morons, it's just classic radio. Juan Pierre has won a world series. Look what happened to the Dodgers last year when they benched Pierre for Ramirez
  23. Not that Bunning wasn't a curmudgeon before, but doesn't he have dementia?
