    Is that last bit accurate? Do we have any sort of ace pitcher, even if "ace" is very optimistic, that we can pencil into the rotation over the next couple of years? Without at least one of these can we really compete? Between Cashner, Whitenack, McNutt, Carpenter, and Archer there has been some heavy turnover in elite pitching talent in the last year to the point where I don't see us developing a true Ace soon. Other than C.C. opting-out are there any free agent prospects in the next few years? I think the "only as a reliever" bit is just their speculation, which they certainly seem to be fond of doing. I haven't seen anything about him being switched back to a reliever except in two blurbs on that site. Somebody posted a quote about him coming back as a reliever this year a few weeks ago.

    Do you think any of the Cubs that participated in the video are homosexuals? What do you want them to do about it? I don't see your reasoning. And how do any of us know that there aren't any Cubs who are gay? The statistics would say there is a very good chance there is. If the message is "don't be a bully, and if you are being bullied, hang in there", then that's fine. If the message is "hey, if you're gay, it gets better", then the message is a bit hollow coming from baseball players because professional sports is one of the least welcoming environments for anyone who is gay. It's a bit like an all white country club putting out a message to minorities that "it gets better". Even if the people putting out the message aren't bigots themselves. What do you want these respective players in the commercial to do if they're not homosexuals? The fact that other athletes are homophobic isn't something they can necessarily control.

    I really hope the draft turns into teams dumping the terrible contracts they signed last offseason. Last off-season was probably my favorite non-Celtics based event of the NBA season, tonight could be like a mini-version of that.

    Hopefully this means more guys start deciding soon. Hamilton, I'm looking at you. And hopefully that leads to not taking anyone from the terrible '12 class. I wouldn't mind Marerro. But no one else. I'd rather Taylor as Parker bait, but I'm not too keen on either.

    lol They needed a SF and have lots of cap space means the +1.5 mil won't bother them. They have a wing position filled and save money on Jimmer or Kemba, whichever falls to them to fill their PG need. Still not a great trade for them. More of a combination of Sacramento acquiring after dumping him a few years back coupled with Milwaukee dumping him the year after they signed him. Something tells me he won't be with Sacramento for more than 2 seasons.

    You're new here, right? You might want to brace for impact. Oh, I'm sure. But again, he really does not look right. Very Soriano-esque. I can't think of a player on the Cubs who'd be a worse comparison at the plate. ETA: Ok, Darwin Barney I guess, but Soriano and Soto have completely different approaches. I really don't know where you're coming from on this.

    These arguments remind me of the Grabow thread when people were outraged that those arguing against re-signing him would be against a 2Y/1M contract for him.

    Those WAR #s are understating Soriano by a lot.

    Yeah, if they knew he would be a star then trading for Beckett was incredibly short-sighted. They would have much rather had Hanley than Beckett the last 6 years, and that isn't even accounting for the money they would have saved to use on another pitcher. I was under the impression that Hanley was widely considered to be a star in the making at the time of the trade. Maybe they didn't think he'd be as good as he ending up being so soon, but he was star material nonetheless. #30 in BA the offseason he was traded. Coming off a poor year at AA. Unless people are willing to relent on the Cubs having high-end talent and claim Brett Jackson as a star, the Red Sox are full of it.

    While I don't disagree, what could one expect to receive for Marmol? I'm trying to think of historical precedent for a trade of this sort and all I can come up with are Billy Wagner and Matt Capps. The Phils sent Brandon Duckworth, Taylor Buchholz and Ezequiel Astacio for Wagner. Matt Capps netted the Nats Wilson Ramos. What is Marmol worth? Matt Capps certainly isn't a comparable situation.

    There is 0% chance Starlin Castro is traded. He's the only thing the organization is pushing right now, to trade him would be suicidal.

    Is Burks really worth that risk? Even if he is someday is a starter, he won't be right away. You'd be better off using Taj or Omer to get a guy like Mayo or to a lesser extent Lee who can play now and be a long term solution. Oh yeah, I would only want to trade up for Burks if the Bulls didn't have to part with Taj or Omer. Then what would you give up?
