  1. What's our shooting percentage in conference, like 8%?
  2. They got a LOT worse by losing Choo? I don't think so. They also improved by ditching Dusty. Wait did I miss the argument where the reds didn't get much worse by losing their best offensive player from 13?
  3. Whoops, forgot the Marlins existed. (Wishful thinking)
  4. I'm not nearly as down on Vitters as a lot of you, but I have a hard time seeing him fit into my personal top 20. I'm still a bit of a sucker for Szczur though.
  5. On paper we're probably the worst team in the NL.
  6. Brett Jackson wasn't that long ago guys.
  7. The biggest benefits of hovering around .500 would be convincing Samardzija that this team won't be awful forever and convincing the fans they won't be awful forever. Preventing a 2nd half full of half-empty stadiums could make the difference when it comes to trying to sign somebody next year.
  8. And another 3 or 4 may owe some of their standing to Epstein/Hoyer player development despite not being drafted or signed by them. And there'd probably be another 3 or 4 more if they were able to continue developing those guys they drafted elsewhere
  9. I forgot MacPhail was still a thing during this time. Every article I can find has Kenney listed as SVP and Fitzsimons as CEO of Trib. McDonough replaced MacPhail.
  10. What did that make McDonough? McDonough was the President. When he left, Kenney took over as President and retained his Chairman title too. So he at least had him and fitzsimons ahead of him calling shots
  11. When it comes to the 2020 multibillion new TV contract, the opt out was huge. The Cubs will need to field a very competitive team in 2018 and 2019 to maximize its value. Allowing him the option to leave after 2017 would make no sense in the grand scheme of things. Adding another year which would be 2020 when they have a few hundred million in additional revenues would not be as big of an issue. It is huge for Tanaka..but I don't think if the numbers were switched and we offered 155m with no opt out, and the yanks offered 120 with it, that he goes with the yankees because of it. It is absolutely great for him, because he is protected if he is average or gets hurt but if he's great, he can go after Kershaw money in 4 years. I don't see how the Cubs could have ever included that since the allure of Tanaka was to have him well after the young guys are up. I think most of us expected the Cubs to try before 2018. Of the top 10 prospects, I'm not sure there's a guy with an eta that late, maybe Candelario?
  12. What did that make McDonough?
  13. GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Crane Kenney became President 8 [expletive] years after the rooftop deal was made. No groans! Everything I can find credits Kenney with negotiating the 2004 agreement and that makes sense since he would have been general council of the trib at that time. Yeah I don't think that's how general counsels work.
  14. And yet their payroll is 13M higher than ours
  15. I fear MWV is right, and the 100 Million payroll was there for Tanaka(defrayed by marketing or some such nonsense?) and only Tanaka. If we get fucked on this TV deal, or we wind up applying it all to renovations, we're going to be bad for a very long time.
  16. Top of my head is that even true for anyone but the dodgers(who of course has yet to have their contract take effect)? Didn't the Angels get one like a year or two ago when they splurged on Wilson, Pujols, and Hamilton? Right you are, started in 2012 season. Rangers? Plus, obviously, the Yankees. Yankees haven't signed a new TV contract in some time. Rangers deal doesn't start until 2015. Going by fangraphs, the most recent deals are: Astros: 2013 Padres, Angels: 2012 Twins: 2011 A's: 2009 Giants: 2008 Braves: 2007 Marlins: 2006 A real murderer's row of big spenders there Tommy
  17. i was looking for that earlier and couldn't find it. thanks! for a new era, here's a good snippet: I wonder how that breaks down based on level. One would think Baez and Bryant would have a better chance at succeeding as top 20 prospects at AAA and AA respectively than Almora(even with his stated high floor) at A+

  20. Does he even know where all the Ricketts live?
  21. To clarify, Houston probably passed us in profitability this season thanks to their 15M payroll.
  22. http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs/tanaka-fallout-cubs-facing-long-term-questions-about-future
  23. #5 in revenue and #1 in profit
  24. 90/10 on @poortomricketts. The FO is either too stringent on what they see is a value or they were duped by a panhandling owner
  25. And in that same article they mention cubs management confirmed they're #5 in mlb revenues and were #1 in profit. But yeah well never be able to compete until we've thrown Beth Murphy into a pit and we get 500m/year for tv and can put a Budweiser sign every 15 feet in the of
