  1. I could get used to that. Honest question, how many games would the Bulls win with a healthy Derrick Rose and LeBron James? With Thibs coaching, would they break the 98 Bulls record? How many games would they win with a unicorn and leprechaun on their team?
  2. So Homer Bailey is probably getting extended
  3. Been voting him since 13(and would've taken him over Olt without hesitation) hoping his recent surge will push him past Jimenez for 17
  4. If the Mariners would've just hired him in 03 like he clearly preferred maybe we wouldn't have to deal with this now
  5. Those 12 are making 22 million this year, and are Shark, Wood, and 10 platoon/bench players and relievers. Their salaries are going to scale less than the average that B-R is using. There's also a more than passing chance that more than a few of them(Barney, Murphy, McDonald, Russell/Wright) are not on the roster next year for performance reasons or because other players can do what they do for nothing. The numbers are imperfect for sure but they also have shark and woods salaries dropping by a combined 2.5m as opposed to the ~8m or so increase they'll be receiving 13m in arb raises for the remaining 10 sounds pretty close to me
  6. Show your work so I don't have to figure out why. Br has roster at 74m for next year without Fuji or veras options getting picked up. That leaves room for one Edwin Jackson or 2 jason hammels
  7. This offseason is the first time they haven't spent everything available to them. Tanaka complicated things. It is slightly disconcerting that they haven't made an effort on some of the SP's out there, but who really knows what they've offered. Where do you see the 2015 payroll being, if you had to put money on it? The fact that there isn't so much as a whisper connecting the cubs to the other starting pitchers left after tanaka I find very concerning. It's one thing to use your "budget" on a Japanese star who you can make some money back on through non ticket means, it's another to actually spend it to solely improve the mlb team. I expect the mlb payroll to be at 80-90m next year which is a continued disgrace I don't even disagree with the payroll amount or that it's a disgrace obviously. But with what's on our payroll currently, it allows for a couple of major signings even within that. Like I said up thread, until we trade shark, we can't even afford one major signing at that payroll level.
  8. I really don't think that Arizona thing is a money issue. Then what? They negotiated in bad faith and never planned on building anything?
  9. And they will almost certainly have to spend money on free agents to become a winning team, even with this historically awesome collection of young talent. Sarcasm?

  11. as a projection, 85 wins is pretty good though. Well yeah but that "projection" includes a lot of unlikely events
  12. ~85 wins depending on a shark trade?
  13. Define "major" davell. Our payroll is 85 this year. We can't make one major signing and keep payroll where it is. I'm sure we can find 2 more jason hammels though after max Scherzer signs some "crazy" contract that some stupid team will regret 5 years from now
  14. What's a ped enhanced career track look like?
  15. The Papa John's in my area is not bad at all. Pizza Hut is [expletive] terrible and if you can believe we don't even have a Dominos anywhere within 20 miles from where I live. Luckily there's a mom and pop pizza place a mile from me that serves quality [expletive]. there's some good pizza in tulsa, but nothing close to us. hilariously there is a "chicago-style" pizza place a couple miles away that i've yet to try I guarantee it's terrible. Every time I've had it outside of Chicago it's been a dried out mess
  16. Eh, he wasn't approved until October 2009. Though, we'll likely win about 66 games this year too. Should also be able to get attendance down to right around 1M dropoff since he acquired the team to go with the 17 win drop. But who knows what Don Levin would've done. He probably would've cut off Castro's head and moved the team to Delaware.
  17. Thats not entirely fair. The actual instruction in the minors is most likely improved
  18. The NLs hard line stance against seeing eye dogs has really hurt his chances
  19. FWIW, a nightmare owner to me would've been someone who, in the case of this franchise, would have left it on autopilot, not addressed any of the rest of the organization and just kept the team interesting enough to print money while not really having a long term vision of any sort. His first two years were nightmarish since he did keep Hendry far longer than necessary. But according to Kyle, he presided over a mini dynasty at Clark & Addison. How could Ricketts possibly have let him go? Relative to 4 years of ricketts the 03-08 cubs were [expletive] Ming
  20. I'm dubious about giving the ownership credit for stadium renovations that still haven't broken ground 2 years later. And it's laughable to give them credit for a tv deal that still hasn't been inked. As if John Canning would have moved them to strictly radio broadcasts
  21. How about the previous ownership that left this organization in the state it was in (and with all of the hindrances it had) when it was sold? The fact that Zell directed them to spend a ton on payroll for the last 3-4 years while they sold the team doesn't absolve them of all their prior terribleness. But, seriously? Look around baseball. Look around baseball? Name me a no doubt worse owner outside of Loria. I'd argue Crane is but really what makes their "process" different from ours? Angelos maybe?
  22. I just can't agree with any of this.
  23. That they want to make sure they have the revenue generators in place before flushing $500 million down the toilet? If this renovation isn't going to make the team money, what's the point of it? Preventing them from losing money when Wrigley Field collapses into a pile of rubble. If it cost that much to keep the thing from collapsing, the better options (from a business perspective) would probably be (1) sell the team, or (2) continue the patchwork repairs until it somebody offers you a good deal for a new stadium. Tell me more about option 1
  24. Turns out dumping a bag of skittles into a high life just makes the beer fizz over. #thingsilearnedincollege
