  1. I just don't understand how the Cream of Wheat is seen as racist. The mere mention of the product Cream of Wheat concerning a black man must be racism?
  2. I'd venture to say that your guess is correct. All I'm saying is that he shouldn't have said Caribbean and made it "racial." These brain dead players like Feliz and Cruz that just go up there and swing at slop............ When you're talking about racially charged comments...............they have to be racially charged, meaning this guy has to literally hate for Caribbeans. I just don't think that's the case. I don't agree w/ what he said, but I don't think he's a racist. Oh I completely agree with the Caribbean remark. It was unnecessary, especially with some other brain-dead players on the team.
  3. Our local school MC was named Choctaws in 1836. It was originally an all girls college which had no sports. I'm not sure that flies, at least not in this situation. It is a possible theory though which I will accept as valid. However, I think that in the case of Choctaws, Utes, Seminoles, Illini and other "tribe" schools which are in the area of the actual tribes, I think that most likely is tribute. On the other hand, schools that are Braves, Indians, etc, basic generic Indian names, then I think you may have a case. Having a white guy (as is the case with Chief Illiniwek) in war paint doing a dance that isn't even a real Native dance is not a tribute. Maybe the nickname was meant as a tribute, but Chief Illiniwek is no more different than you being upset at Blue Collar TV's image of Southerners. Plus, I believe the ruling has to do with mascots, so the issue of the nicknames doesn't come into play. It's the mascots that do, and they are stereotypical and bogus. A white guy who is a Native American studies major and has respect for Native American culture. All of this offending a tribe that no longer exists apparently.
  4. Never. I despise Dusty Baker with just about every bone in my body, but I'm not one to sell out my team.
  5. Cream of Wheat is mush. Felipe Alou's brain is like mush. It's people looking for something racist by saying that statement is racist. I'd venture to guess the Caribbean line was referring specifically to Feliz and Cruz who are both brain-dead hitters and swing at slop. The overreaction to this is ridiculous.
  6. Blown out of proportion.
  7. Of course. U of I goes through this just about every year, and every year the chief is retained. I just don't understand what caused this ruling, I've heard little to nothing in terms of backlash about Native American nicknames as of late. Were people so distracted by the name Illini that they couldn't enjoy the basketball tournament? I know every shot they hit coming back was bittersweet because I thought about how a tribe that no longer exists was being oppressed because of the presence of a Native American studies major doing a native dance at halftime that isn't ever shown on TV. Just tore my heart up.
  8. Taylor Bucholz was the big part of the Wagner trade, and he's still a pretty decent prospect I believe.
  9. neely you make it sound like every prospect shoudl have been traded at their peak for sure things. Besides the fact that we woudn up with with Choi for Lee, Hill and trash for Ramirez, and Harris, Beltran, Jones for Nomar, you mention a heap of guys that were either never much of prospects or only real prospects in the year after we drafted in them in which they couldn't be traded. The only guys that it seems like the Cubs made a big mistake in holding on to too long are Kelton and Cruz. Guzman's injuries are not something you can count on happening. If you can find a team in the majors that hasn't held on to a couple of prospects too long, I'd love to see them.
  10. Won't they have 10 days to trade him, if possible (though admittedly, teams don't tend to pay top dollar in a trade for a player that was just DFA'd]. Correct, I wouldn't expect much in return if we can work out a trade. And I think it's grossly unfair to Hendry to throw Borowski and Hawkins in the same category as Remlinger. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone disagreeing with the first 2 signings. And Hawkins is doubly unfair considering the impressive haul Hendry got in return for him.
  11. An unhealthy Cards team is better than a healthy White Sox team.
  12. While Maddux doesn't get to choose, he can make his preference known. But that should be irrelevant as the call won't be close enough to take into account Maddux's decision, and Maddux doesn't seem the type to make a call like that.
  13. I think we have to go 7-3 against Houston to make it.
  14. I thought everyone decided not to make an official color for sarcastic comments? I agree, please we're not WSI, we don't want to be anything resembling WSI. If you can't pick up on sarcasm oh well.
  15. So which is it? Have the Cubs only truly been drawing more over the past few years because of the winning product or have they done it for years? I know you mentioned '92 as the breaking point, but there were A MILLION+ more fans last year than there was in '92. Not to mention it really seems odd to say that our ownership doesn't care about putting a winner on the field when they spend some 30 Million+ more than your strike inducing, white flag trading, running Jordan out of town, screwing over the best player in White Sox history, owner.
  16. What the hell are the Padres thinking on that deal?
  17. Yes, since the Cubs did it 10 years ago, they must still do it today. Jim Hendry has clearly shown that he has a history of signing washed up bums to big contracts. Oh and the training staff is always wrong about when guys will be back. And Chris Speier needs to stop getting guys thrown out at home. And why is Blanco's first name Gabor? And Matt Murton should stop peeing on his hands. Otherwise URINE trouble!!!! LOLMOAWMROIAJROI!!!!!
  18. That's Brenly-speak IMB, I didn't expect that from you.
  19. I really really doubt Neifi will be traded, but the Nationals are a perfect fit. 1. Cristian Guzman is the worst player in baseball and 2. Jim Bowden is an idiot.
  20. Scouring facebook for U of I. Roughly half of the members of the group White Sox Nation (The biggest White Sox group I believe) are in the group Cubs suck. That's not accounting for the myriad of other anti-cubs groups. The biggest Cubs group "Cubbies" has 3000+ members. The biggest anti-white sox group has 161 members.
  21. Good for him for exercising a clause that he negotiated for in his contract.
  22. How is Mark Grace the slightest bit qualified for a management job?
  23. No, 10man, upon reviewing my Dusty handbook, the reason Gerut isn't playing is that he's from the AL. You need at least half a season in the NL to adapt to NL pitching before you can start getting PT. It works the same way as the rookie rule in that the player must sit on the bench to learn the new pitchers, but after that half season is up, they don't have enough in the batter's box experience to handle them, thus they're sent out or sent down to get some regular PT.
  24. As long as they're ahead of the Cubs in the standings the Cubs are chasing them. Just because they're slumping now doesn't necessarily mean they can't right themselves and go on another hot streak. The Cubs themselves are proof of that; they've had a couple of bad stretches this year and managed to rebound. I whole-heartedly disagree. I fully expect the Nats to finish under .500. We're 1 game back.
