  1. I think if we lose to Iowa we're out of the tourney. If they come out flat again tomorrow, I'm going to need 3 or 4 games off I think.
  2. He got a higher percentage of votes than BABE RUTH did. Somebody explain that one, please. Ruth had ridiculous competition on his ballot and Ripken didn't.
  3. Mike Fontenot slept with Jim Hendry's ex-wife.
  4. I lean towards Belle not being a hall of famer.(Longevity has to come into play, and Belle, other than a pretty great 7 year run has nothing to supplement it.) But he definitely should have lasted past his first year. And thank God Garvey is finally off the ballot.
  5. But hasn't the AP disaffiliated from the BCS since then? Does the NCAA recognize the AP polls at all at this point? The NCAA has recognized the AP since the 1930s, I'm sure we would have heard if they'd changed their mind. Yeah, the AP isn't affiliated with the BCS anymore with regards to the computer rankings but it's still recognized by the NCAA. ok, recognized, but with all of it's eggs in the BCS basket, the NCAA is more likely to disregard the AP if they decide Boise St. is #1, right? I guess the NCAA is more likely to disregard the AP poll Unless USC wins the AP poll and it makes for a better story that they're back to back champs.
  6. I'd put Arkansas over Louisville and WVU. I'd put teams that can pass the ball over Arkansas. It also isn't fair to rank the top 8 SEC teams compared with the 8 Big East teams because you're cutting out the 4 worst teams in the SEC. I'd probably drop Kentucky down a lot, and South Carolina a few spots. I'd also switch LSU and Florida.
  7. same percentage (75%) of Big East teams were .500 or better. Well only 5 of the 6 eligible Big East teams were selected. But my statement wasn't as much saying the Big East deserves more team rather that there are way too many Bowl games. This is a more important stat IMO: # of teams each conference had in bowl games Jan 1 or later (excluding the crap games today and tomorrow): ACC: 2 Big 12: 2 Big East: 2 Big Ten: 4 Pac-10: 1 SEC: 5 Out of nine games, the SEC had teams in 5 of them. Exclude the three other BCS bowls that the SEC couldn't put teams into, and that's 5 out of 6 games. And that's crap. What day did the Pac-10's #2 and #3 teams play? December 28 and 29th. They also played games on the 21st, 24th, and 27th. When did the first SEC team play? December 28th. How about the first Big 10 team? December 29th. It's crap. I'm not going to lie, my beef here has to do with the Pac-10 and while Cuse's attacks the "good old boys" network in defense of the Big East, mine are in defense of the Pac-10. Cuse may not be right in everything he's saying but he's spot in in his assessment of the SEC and the Big 10. It's especially disconcerting since the Pac 10 was the best conference in football this year.
  8. That's Big Ten refs for ya. Illinois just played a horrible game. Their perimeter D was just horrid and offensively they continue to stuggle. I wasn't really impressed with Oden today, but that's also because Pruitt did a pretty decent job against him. I was VERY impressed with OSU's guards, they really get streaky from 3 pt land. The Wisconsin-OSU matchup in Madison on tuesday will be awesome. Badgers about to take on Minny, should be a good game for the Badgers. I think at one point OSU's guards were 9-12 3pters. Illinois doesn't even have one player who would get a scholarship at OSU. I really wish Thad Matta would have been the guys we picked to replace Self. And this once again is ridiculous. You're trying to say that Illinois's best player would be Ohio St.'s 13th best. There's no need to exaggerate to point out how bad this team has been playing.
  9. In that case we should cheer for a Juan Gonzalez signing. Or a Griffey trade.
  10. The Orioles also added Francis Beltran, Brandon Sing, Luis Montanez, and Jon Leicester.
  11. They plan on doing what they do with every transaction they make. Finding a way to stop Morgan Ensberg from seeing the field.
  12. Where there's a Morelli, there's a way. Yup, but according to the depth charts on rivals.com, Notre Dame has all of three returning starters. That's really rough. Penn State loses only 8 offensive starters (9 if Dan Connor goes to the NFL). They do lose their entire starting defensive line, but that's a position that was recruited really well in the past few years, so I'm not too concerned there. The big things PSU needs next year is more awareness from Morelli, suitable replacements for Hunt and Levi Brown, and somebody to step up and replace Posluszny's leadership. I was mostly being sarcastic, I'd give ND maybe a 15% chance to win that game, but PSU really can't afford to stick with Morelli if he starts next year like he did this year. is there a stud breathing down his neck at all?
  13. Holy Cross in the 4 years before I went there: 69-45, 1 Patriot League title, 3 winning seasons Holy Cross while I was there: 32-77, 0 winning seasons (best record: 10-18) Holy Cross in the 6 years after I graduated: 124-62, 5 winning seasons, 3 Patriot League titles (the 3 years immediately after I graduated), 1 NIT appearance. Plus, the football team went 11-33 while I was there, then went 7-4 right after I left. So, it could be worse. My years coincided with just about the best 4 year run in U of I basketball history. It also coincided with just about the worst 4 year run in football.
  14. Where there's a Morelli, there's a way.
  15. KSU, Kansas, IU, NW, Illinois, NC State, Duke, Kentucky, Cincy, UConn and Vandy can be cut from that list without even thinking. I'd also think that a team with a new coach won't get it done (I don't ever remember it happening), so slice Bama too. If Mississippi St. finishes in the top 25 I'll say the SEC is underrated. From these schools listed, I'd say Tennesee, Auburn, LSU, USC, Michigan, Louisville, West Virginia, and Texas would have to be the favorites. I have a hard time just writing off the teams who played in the title game the year before sight unseen though.
  16. Didn't see it posted in here, the deal appears to be Luis Vizcaino, Ross Ohlendorf, Stephen Jackson, and Alberto Gonzalez. Sickels has them ranked as 18th, 19th, and 20th best prospects for Arizona. *Cribbed from BTF thread on the trade*
  17. Guthrie And why was it Guthrie??? Because Dusty didn't want to bring in the righty and have Lenny Harris pinch hit.
  18. You knew that exact sequence would happen?
  19. 9th ranked Michigan in '02. Actually, they were 6th. And they were 8th when we beat them in '04. They must be referring to end-of-season rankings because we also beat them in '05 when they were 3rd. They were 9th at the end of the season.
  20. 9th ranked Michigan in '02.
  21. I think they have 3 losses, pulling out one of those 4 road games. I think they have 7 losses and finish 9th in the SEC Haha. :D
  22. I think they have 3 losses, pulling out one of those 4 road games.
  23. I'm definitely not certain that Tennesee beats ND, considering Penn St., ND's best win, just beat Tenesee; and I think ND/Arkansas would be a good matchup(And was who I was hoping for in a bowl) since Arkansas can't pass and ND can't defend the pass.
  24. For everyone"s enjoyment next season, could we have ND play an SEC schedule? Pretty please. We went over this earlier in the year and people had ND as the 9th best team in the SEC. You're all as nuts as ND fans. Well ND definitely proved everyone wrong, what with losing by only 27 points to LSU. Yep losing by 27 to LSU definitvely shows that ND is worse than Kentucky, Alabama, and South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennesee.
  25. I don't know how much you can really blame the defensive coordinator. These are a lot of slow, undersized defenders, there's only so much you can do as a coordinator if you don't have the talent. I'd say give him next year to see what kind of improvements can be made, especially since next year is seen as a rebuilding year.
