  1. Eric Byrnes is an idiot. Even without looking at the quote he is. I have little worry about what a pro athlete says about the reason for their success. Many idiot players go on to be idiot managers that don't know what the hell they're doing. Others go on to be idiot commentators that don't know what the hell they're talking about. The fact that they "played the game" means nothing.
  2. And would St. Louis find a way to cough up money for ARod? Torre managed in St. Louis before and it didn't turn out too well. I think he was right before Herzog. Right after, he went straight from fired from the Cardinals to 12 postseasons in a row with the Yanks.
  3. With Steve Trachsel getting the worst. Proving some people know what they're doing. Also, I don't think you quite understand. His name is spelled THE-RIOT RIOT
  4. He's also a very intelligent person. He'd know what sells Wrigley, and lasers and big screens aren't it.
  5. I'll go ahead and touch on the hitting: #6 among all third basemen in HRs, #7 in RBI, #5 in OPS and all that with time missed on the DL. Barry Rozner has crap for brains. Try watching some games next year.
  6. He shoulda GIDPed like Jeter did.
  7. Stanford/USC being replayed on Versus RIGHT NOW 2 minutes remaining.
  8. Attanasio I believe. I don't see why he would be included over some others. When discussing this topic earlier, I surmised that you'd have Reinsdorf + anyone Selig arranged an ownership change for in the past 5 years, which is more than 7. I don't think Angelos would necessarily be against it, unless his payment for the Washington franchise is enough to make him another Selig lap dog, but I really doubt it. I'm thinking the scumbag on the south side, Pohlad, Glass, Tampa's owner, A's(Wolff?), Nats(Lerner?), whatever conglomerate owns the Braves right now(TW?), McCourt, D-Backs(?), Reds(Lindner? Castellini?), Nutting, Attanasio. Cheapness/Cronies of Selig make this an impossibility IMO. Maybe I'm being too extreme, impossibility is a strong word. Owners I'd be surprised if they had an objection would be Moreno, Illitch, Steinbrenner, Angelos, Magowan, DeWitt, Wilpon, the Cubs. That's 8 in favor, 12 against, 10 others I'd imagine aren't boat rockers and will follow the crowd. Gonna take some glad-handling to get those 5 to jump ship. I can't see any way Reinsdorf, Pohlad, McCourt, or Nutting changes their mind. It's a razor thin opening to get approved, I just don't see it getting done.
  9. MLB has to approve ownership from the other 29 owners, I forget what the req'd ratio of approval has to be. As far as why, MLB is still a private entity and it helps to have backings to get into the good ole boy network. I assume most teams/owners don't want someone with the personality or the willingness of someone like Cuban owning a team. I think it's 75%, so, 22/29, I guess. Cuban said he has received some support from some owners already, but it seems like we would really need some help from owners that might be on the fence about him. I'm guessing, from what we've heard so far, that there's a good handful or so that are strongly opposed. Why would any owners oppose? It just blows me away! He would create excitement in the game. What would be the downside? Just don't get it. Maybe they think he'll spend money like an out of control owner and spike up salaries. Yeah I guess...God forbid the Cubs are actually good for many years. Like that's bad for baseball?!?! Escalating salaries are bad for their checkbooks. If somebody new comes in that causes them to make 50M a season for doing nothing compared to 70M, then it's no to Cuban.

  12. The 24 year old who has murdered the ball over 2 half seasons in AAA where he's age appropriate. I don't deny that this is pretty much make or break time for Ronny as a prospect. He'll be 25 next year, and I believe out of options. I wouldn't let him prevent me from trading for a Renteria or Tejada(which my gut tells me the Cubs will do), but if no upgrade is made at SS, and we run out Theriot at SS on opening day instead of Ronny, I'm going to be pissed.
  13. Please notice that the only team mentioned in the NL Central is the Brewers. The Cubs will continue to be contenders in the NL Central with the Brewers and what happens in the playoffs is always a crapshoot. This year's playoffs proved that again. So, if the Cubs can win the Central it doesn't matter which is the best team (on paper). Crap and shoot is about right. Thats only the NL teams mentioned, if you want, we can list the AL's as well. The 06 Cards winning was one in a million and it will always be something that is referred to when talking about an underdog. I'd rather not be the underdog. Okay, how bout the '05 White Sox, the '03 Marlins, the '02 Angels, the '01 Diamondbacks as far as the best team not winning it all. Don't get me wrong I hate the "contend within the division" mantra that had become Cubs standard for the better part of my life, but to pretend that underdogs never win it all is foolish.
  14. I might want a fan uproar against Selig more. I hate that piece of trash.
  15. Any team looking to add a starting pitcher this offseson is goign to have some trouble. There's nothing out there. And as Ender has constantly harped on, it's not so much the pitching that is Milwaukee's problem, but their horrendous fielding. They're going to have a tough time improving that based on their current makeup, which I think is going to keep them from becoming truly great for now.
  16. Also, he knows Greg Maddux Dammit, beaten.
  17. Nilo summed it up well. The frustrating thing is that they're so eager to get him up to the majors to be a friggin utility player that they move him to the OF where his bat won't play. He wasn't brutal at 2B, there's no reason not to stick with him there, let him play it out at AAA and see if he can improve. Abandoning 2B and moving him to a position where he's already blocked by a superior prospect is killing his career before it started.
  18. I really like Jones on a personal level. If we can dump his salary we have to.
  19. Pat Dillingham was a walk-on 2nd string QB for ND in Ty's first year. He was horrible.
  20. Wisconsin over Illinois in the coaches poll. Just incredible. Thank you Notre Dame and Illinois for salvaging my weekend. I really don't think BC is that good, and wouldn't be completely stunned if ND knocked them off. Likely won't, but I'd probably take them in a money line bet.(Took ND against the spread sight unseen this weekend) I told anyone who'd listen that U of I was going to a bowl game before the season started. I've been on the Ron Zook bandwagon from the second he became the coach. But even I'm surprised at how good we look now. This is a lot fun after suffering through 0 winning seasons in my 4 years there.
  21. Worth very little until all the games are "connected", meaning that every team can be linked to every other team through games. Until then the predictive values are partially based on last year's information. Of course, considering that, I'm surprised Illinois is as high as it is. That rating looks like a basketball poll with Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Cincinnati, etc. Except Illinois wont sniff the basketball poll this year or anytime soon if Weber doesnt change something. And Missouri hasn't sniffed a basketball poll since Quin first started sniffing cocaine. 1989?
  22. If anyone's checking this thread on their blackberry, I may not be able to make it til after the game now. I have tickets with my sister, and she doesn't seem up for pre-gaming.
