  1. If it's money spent on valuable assets then it makes the Cubs worth more. I agree with you on how it'll probably shake out, but that doesn't mean it's logical.
  2. It means it's on cable. And all this indignation about expansion teams and teams not from huge markets playing playoff baseball is Yankee-esque. It's disgusting. Teams not from a top 5 market are only their to be fodder for big city teams?
  3. I understand in the grand scheme of things being ranked 25th or 27th doesnt mean much, but I also believe being ranked helps recruiting. Kids see the top 25 and often times dont see 26 on down, and I think it does weigh in on recruiting. Maybe not much(hell look at U of I's recruiting lately) but often times the little things can come in to play. What would really help their recruiting is if they beat Michigan. Also like Andy has said the polls are very much a what have you done for me lately thing. Illinois lost their last game to a team that isnt very good. Look, we all understand why the pollsters do the things they do, doesn't make it right. Arguing that since Illinois lost to a team that isn't very good(on the road) justifies them being below a Michigan team that lost to Appalachian St. and got murdered by Oregon(both at home) is madness. Hey SSR, did you notice that Penn State is ahead of the Illini? I think thats an even bigger joke than Michigan. Wisconsin in the coaches poll was really what dumbfounded me above all else. They've beaten nobody, and have lost their last 2, with them being embarrassed Saturday by a mediocre PSU team(that yes, we should be ahead of.)

  5. If you're arguing the side of its how the voters operate, I understand Andy. Still doesn't mean that's how it should be. My case is just another in a long line of college voters(football and basketball) are idiots.
  6. I'm watching because it's playoff baseball and I like baseball. You've missed some good games by avoiding it.
  7. Great example with David Kelton btw. Kelton in AAA 2003: .269 .338 .446 2004: 248 .302 .450 2005: 283 .329 .420 2006: 216 .284 .288 This as a corner OF. Dubois at the age of 22 was in A ball. I've already said this is pretty much Cedeno's last chance this season, and everyone's saying that if it comes down to Theriot or Cedeno, they'll go with Cedeno cause he could actually stand a chance to be a mediocre starting SS unlike Theriot. Nobody's saying don't worry about SS, give Cedeno a chance. Nobody's saying don't worry about RF give Murton a chance. People are saying if we have to stick with status quo(which we likely will at one of these positions), that these are the guys that should get the chances not the proven quantities of suck. I responded after reaidng up to about page 3 and see much of my post was already addressed. I just don't understand what's so hard to grasp about the differences in age between the 2. Does anyone really think a 23 year old Ryan Theriot does better than Cedeno for that one season? He was struggling at A/AA ball. He would've been a bigger mess than Cedeno was in '06. But because he was actually at an age appropriate level he's not being written off.
  8. Who's gonna be responsible for whether Bruce makes the team out of ST? Same with Votto. Tampa spent big money on Piniella a few years back, and that was it when it came to spending money. I don't expect Cincy to make a big splash money wise, and if they do, who's it gonna be on? Another OF? The free agent market(as usual) sucks this year.
  9. At the age Ronny was having a horrible year in the majors, Theriot was slugging 296 in a split season between A and AA.
  10. I believe Dick Pole is already there as a pitching coach, I'm sure he'll stick around. The return of Wendell Kim would be awesome.
  11. If someone can go ahead and explain Michigan being ranked ahead of Illinois, I'd love to hear it. AND WISCONSIN IN THE COACHES POLL??
  12. Why do people hate David Eckstein so much? Answer that question, then realize that Theriot is worse, and plays for us. And is blocking an arguably superior player in Cedeno.
  13. The worst part about this hiring is that we will actually lose games to a team managed by Dusty Baker. And that will be painful.
  14. Ron Zook has fecal matter for brains.
  15. Yeah that was mindblowing. You don't take 4th down away from a team. He's done it twice now. The other time for 5 friggin yards changing it from a ~30 yard field goal to a ~35 yard field goal if you stop them. Of course Iowa scored a TD instead, cause we gave them 5 downs. Cause Zook is an idiot.
  16. Just because Atlanta isn't Chicago, New York, or LA doesn't mean he was operating as a small/mid market GM. The Braves were near the top in payroll throughout the 90s/early 0s
  17. THAT'S TWICE YOU MORON!! Does Zook realize you can decline penalties???
  18. Please go to McGee. (I'm a huge Juice fan, but geez)
  19. WHY IN THE EFF DO YOU TAKE THAT PENALTY?? 4th and 2 or 3rd and 7?? Seriously? Mike Gottfried is an idiot.
  20. Comparing the discipline problems at FSU to PSU is laughable at best.
  21. The reason I mentioned AAA is because you said Ronny was worse than Theriot in '06. Theriot was in AAA for most of '06 and put up mediocre #s, which I said I was sure Cedeno could match. As I've said elsewhere around the board, I'm not going to write off a guy for one horrible year in the bigs at the age of 23. I'm certainly not going to write him off so I could give more ABs to a known below average player in Ryan Theriot.
  22. Bud Selig is worried about the reports that baseball is making more money than football.
  23. I liked that. Looks like Bruce was as annoyed with Rozner's column as we were. Thanks again!
  24. dusty seems like such a great idea until you actually watch him in action. The funny thing is, he could easily win a World Series with that team, considering the talent makes it a near lock to win 95 games in the regular season. Plus, all their best players are incumbent veterans, and in the AL, he might be convinced not to sac bunt and play small ball nearly as much. Dusty isnt' going to be able to turn them into free swinging hacks. He won't be able to double switch his best hitters out of the lineup. He'll get hammered by his bullpen usage, but if Cashman went out and got him some stable starters, he'd probably ride them all the way to Mo. He'd also have Chamberlain and Kennedy on the DL by the all star break.
