    Totally unrelated For someone who just called out Howry, you should see the relation No there is no relation at all. Its a differet point in the game. I wasnt clamoring for Howry last inning. But if you think just because Howry gave up a triple there, then he would have if he was brought in in the 8th, then I dont know what to tell you. Not the triple but the fact that he can't get people out is the problem. I am sure you will pull some stat out of your rear to prove me wrong, but beyond Wood, Marmol and Eyre, the back end of the bullpen is not entirely reliable. Isn't 3 guys the back end of a bullpen? Bullpen ERA+s (coming into today) INF INF 201 178 161 137 89 The Cubs have a great bullpen.

    Eh, he was still an OBP machine before moving to Oakland, but his power had already fallen off of a cliff in Pittsburgh. His defense had already taken a hit as well.

    I woulda stuck with Marquis, DeRosa shoulda caught that line drive, he wasn't getting rocked, and his pitch count was low. Wasting Marmol here was pretty dumb.

    Ozzie Smith and Vizquel are so similar, at least as far as offensive output is concerned. Smith: .262/.337/.328, 9396 AB's, 2460 hits, 28 HR, 402 2B, 69 3B, 793 RBI, 580 SB Vizquel: .273/.339/.356, 9565 AB's, 2615 hits, 77 HR, 419 2B, 71 3B, 876 RBI, 381 SB So, Vizquel has more power and Ozzie more steals. Looks like a wash offensively. Context. Look at the offensive environments the guys played in. Cool pictures you posted, Jimmie Foxx was frikkin jacked. He'd certainly get some baseless steroid accusations thrown his way.

    Aramis Ramirez has had an incredible approach at the plate all year, I can't get mad at him because he fouled off a pitch that's in the seats in most stadiums. To do so seems pretty absurd. At least the Brewers are gonna lose.

    I'm not sure what that really means. They look like baseball players to me, at least when they wear baseball uniforms. Murton is slugging under .400 against AAA pitching. He can't play defense. He runs the bases like he's drunk. I understand that he can get on base at a decent clip, but he's nothing more than 4th OF material at this point in his career. I don't know why people are so upset he didn't get called up. Because we already had Eric Patterson on the roster, his name is Mike Fontenot. Someone who can hit LHP with power off the bench is something we don't have, and Murton could have provided it. Again, I'm trying to figure out how a guy that can't slug over 400 in the PCL can provide consistent power at the MLB level. TT said "someone who can hit LHP with power." It should be no secret to anyone who has followed the Cubs the past few years that Murton hits lefties well. It's also no secret that he doesn't hit well off the bench. There is an open spot in LF for him to start in. He's put up a .295 .363 .451 line over ~950 PAs in the big leagues. I don't know what else he has to do.

    It's always a matter of how much you have to give up. It's annoying when people argue back at this, saying how long do you want to wait, it's been 100 years, trade em all. Getting Milton Bradley doesn't guarantee a world series, getting Brian Fuentes doesn't guarantee a world series, even getting C.C. doesn't guarantee a world series. It's not as cut and dry as either sell the farm and go straight to the world series or stand pat and do not pass go, do not win a game in the NLDS.

    I personally love the selective reasoning used by people who hate on Murton. These same people are the ones cackling to themselves about the stat nerds wanting Jason Dubois, lol get your head out of the spreadsheet, AAAA player. Then Eric Patterson comes up instead of Murton, and it's okay because Murton has 1 HR in AAA.(nevermind his track record in the majors) Just admit that you don't think Murton or Rich Hill look/act like ballplayers and that's why you hate them. It'll make for much more honest discussion than making up reasons.

    No, most people were saying it was a really good deal. But many also didn't understand why the White Sox would be doing that at this point. Not that it matters. It's not like the same people who think the Sox are legit have to be the people who were questioning the move (or the timing of it) at the time. Given Swisher's age and contract status, I don't think many people on NSBB were questioning the move. He's cheap and will be there for a long time under his current deal. It helps the present just as much as the future. As far as Gavin Floyd, yeah, there's no real reason to be high on him. His BABIP is an unsustainable .207 and his K:BB ratio is awful. He's going to come back down to earth. Don Cooper did not appreciate me presenting that information to him.
