  1. Nah, balls in the hole, he does his slide stop only to have no chance to throw anyone out. It's balls up the middle that he can't get to no matter how slow they're moving. (maybe if they're tipped by the pitcher he does his standard smother the ball and then get up and run it down 5 feet away from himself.
  2. That was a great PA by Theriot. Ball 3 was the same spot as strike 1, but strike 1 never shoulda been a strike.
  3. Hopefully it'll be Marshall or Hart (or Soriano or Darren Baker or Hillary Clinton) I'm still not convinced that Hart is starter material, but how many innings was he up to in Iowa? He threw 6.1 his last time out.
  4. If it worked, how come Nermal(or if you so choose Odie) kept coming back?
  5. You were supposed to not post in Edmonds threads while he was going good. Now he's gonna tank. oh no, you're wrong. this is my, how would you say........"my i told you so wet dream"? :D And look how well that worked out for Felix and Ronny.
  6. Cow, any explanation on Izturis stealing home?
  7. Huh, Jimmy Gobble is still around. Nick Swisher might wind up being my least favorite player by time the year's up.
  8. Too close to 5 innings. Unless it's torrential like the Marrero broken leg game, it's getting in :(
  9. He's just being realistic. We need another starter if we want to go deep into October. No, he's consistently pessimistic. I always hate when people point to the '06 Cardinals as the reason to not do anything, and I'm all for improving the team throughout the year whenever possible. But to go into this tunnel vision and say we need a stud starting pitcher or else we don't stand a chance, well it's crazy.
  10. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/gameday_recap.jsp?ymd=20080602&content_id=2825700&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc At Least someone understands the concept of overwork on the Cubs Piniella does. For starting pitchers at least. It'd just be nice if he applied it to everyone else.

  12. High school coaches are fun people.
  13. We won't win with Marmol after approximately August 12th. We'll have to win or lose without him after that point.
  14. Well we are 16 games over .500 so I think anyone who complains constantly or says something like what's above might want to take the results into account. The above statement would mean that at least 24 other managers would have us more than 16 games above .500. Has Lou made mistakes of course and I'm mad when they happen but I don't constantly criticize a guy who has winning. Charlie Manuel, Clint Hurdle, Grady Little, Phil Garner, etc. All horrendous managers who took their teams to the playoffs. Lou is a two time manager of the year winner, has won a world series, has a career record over .500, and is I believe in the top 20 for wins he's not a horrendous manager. The team is winning, they are getting a long better than they have in a long time. Has Lou made some game mistakes yes but every manager does. His managerial style is working. Not all a manager does is game time decisions. You could say almost all the same things about Dusty Baker when his teams were winning. I'm not trying to say Lou is worse/as bad as Dusty, or necessarily agreeing that he's a bottom 5 manager. My point is, managers might be the one area in baseball where you can't say look at the stats. I'm absolutely thrilled with the way the team is playing right now, and enjoying every minute, but Lou's ADD managing style is a cause for concern whether we're up 15 games or tied in September.
  15. Quibble, Prior threw about 60 pitches to beat Florida in game 2. He then threw 55 more just for kicks.

  17. It's not plenty when Eyre and Cotts will each get to face 2 lefties apiece and then be pulled, Wuertz will be pulled after his 1st walk, and Lieber gets double switched out after throwing 5 pitches.
  18. I just now realized Wuertz has options remaining so Iowa will have a new closer tomorrow. Lou will initally tell people Wuertz needs to spot his location better. He'll mention we need Mike pitching well to go far, so he'll track him closely. 2 days later Lou will say that Wuertz poos his pants and that's what he's trying to get straightened out down there.
  19. But don't worry. Marmol will get so many outs that it will just fall back to where it was before the HR. Probably in the next 2 days.
  20. Argh, 1st and 2nd with 1 out, MARMOL'S A CHOKER!!!
