  1. It must've been a pretty big inning for the opposing team if it took Wood 116 pitches to get out of it. Maybe Julio Franco batted in that inning.
  2. Stealing 3rd with 2 outs is collosally dumb. Stealing it with less than that makes sense if you can make it.
  3. Once again, the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor.
  4. While he is still young enough to have a future, he is in his 3rd pro season. Would he have to be added to the 40-man roster after 2009 in order to avoid the rule 5? Assuming he goes to low A next year and finally has some success, he'd still probably be a good 2-3 years from being major league ready. After 2010 I believe. Even if it was '09, nobody's gonna keep Kyler Burker on their roster all year.
  5. I'd rather Notre Dame beat Michigan. The whole 'bad team beats Michigan' thing was fun last year until Michigan turned around and handed us the most depressing beating in the history of football. But it's Michigan.
  6. This article sounds like it was written about 6 months ago.
  7. I agree... but I don't believe WBC or Olympic Baseball should even exist... it's a pointless risk for injuries. It doesn't mean anything at all, either. 10 years from now any Latin American team would wipe the floor with any American team. Just play MLB.... stop trying to make more money, that's all the WBC was. It's also a great way to promote baseball around the world. More countries get interested in it, become better at developing players, and a greater talent pool becomes available. True... but we don't really have much room for people coming from all countries... unless we expand the league. What?? Did 1940s baseball not have room for black players?
  8. Size doesn't matter in this arguement. All that matters is what city has a very high concentration of Big Ten fans, is centrally located, and has a rather diverse fan base of teams (i.e. cities like Columbus and Ann Arbor are 99.9% fans of one team). Indy has more Iu fans than anything else but Purdue is close and Illinois is pretty close to Purdue. IU and Purdue are an hour away while Illinois is a little under 2 hours away. Northwestern is the only school within 3 hours of Chicago (at least I think). But like I said I really don't think there is any one city that is the beating heart of the Big Ten. In addition to being right next door to Northwestern, 2 hours to Champaign and Purdue. 2 and a half to Madison. Decent sized fanbases from EVERY school. (Minnesota possibly the only exception, but guarantee there's 10 times the Gopher alums in Chicago than are in Indy) The fact that Indy gets to split up the 2 suckhole Indiana universities doesn't make it much other than the hub of Indiana literacy.
  9. And nevermind the fact that half the board is not from Chicago. So you're saying that half(it's gotta be more than that) of the board are Big 10 guys, and the other half are scattered among the other big time conferences. Yeah, let's raise hell that people talk too much about their teams rather than discussing the finer points of Knoxville's latest suspensions.
  10. Yeah, nevermind that Chicago's like 5 times the size of Indy.
  11. He didn't play much against the against the Cards either. I find that to be interesting, don't you? Doumit didn't play yesterday against the Crew either. I'll bet he plays all 3 against us. Great work guys, we have proof of a conspiracy! Now all we need to figure out is a motive. My point isn't that it's a conspiracy per se, but that teams definitely gear up for the Cubs. We get everyone's best effort. Other teams don't. Come on, you really dont believe that do you? That is embarrassingly lame Because you say so? Teams playing with no fan support all year, dank dark stadiums, suddenly the Cubs come to town, or they go to Wrigley where they know it's going to be packed to the gills? They gear up for it. For some of these guys it's the most exciting baseball they'll see for a month or more. Too bad nobody goes to Brewers games. The Pirates might have geared up for them.
  12. Because everyone's out to get us.
  13. How can Bill Melton sit there and call this legit with a straight face. The hopeless drunk.
  14. Doug Eddings shouldn't have a job as of tomorrow. Just horrendous.
  15. You referring to my comments? Yeah, the stats comment too.
  16. What happened with Mazzone??
  17. Yeah, I expect this Z can't control himself in big spots bs from other teams' fans, but it's real annoying to see it from Cubs fans. It's a really tough call. If we were playing some sort of game against an AL team for some reason in their park, I take Dempster, Z's offense is what pretty much evens things out. And yeah, I can't believe I'm saying this. I expected Demp to be a spectacular failure.
  18. How are Jon Garland and Jered Weaver both 5th starters?
  19. I can see where you're going on hit and runs, but don't understand why pickoffs should be any different than a normal CS.
  20. What's Vitters supposed to do if the Cubs don't want to move him up? What level of play from him in Boise would make you think he could be something?? You're telling me if Vitters was born about a week later, then you'd be happy with his line?
  21. I normally just spectate, but I must comment on this. This is one of the least intelligent and asinine comments I have ever heard. I hope for your sake you are kidding. You and I both know this statement is not true. There are plenty of places in your beloved Chicago that I could make this statement about, but choose not to. Yeah, we know. It's called the South Side. And go ahead and make the statement, we won't mind. I already made that joke. It hurt less when I said it.
  22. Lou Brock doesn't even fit your made up definition.
  23. Because we're going to explain to him that we need to move Soriano to 1st base to keep him healthy.
