  1. If we split with the Brewers we have the tiebreaker with them. If we go 2-4 we don't. If we split with the Mets we have the tiebreaker with them. If we go 1-3 we don't. So the "right" wins and our magic numbers could actually be less. I try not to watch road games because I can't handle the pressure. After seeing the replays I am sure I would have enjoyed the end, but I may have preserved a few days of my life. Huh? What tie-breaker? Wouldn't it be a one game playoff? Do they have actual tie breakers like that for the home field or don't they just flip coins...? Maybe I'm confused about something... Head to head record is the first tiebreaker for the less important things like determining who wins a division vs. being a wild card winner or for home field advantage. One game playoffs are for yer in or out situations only.
  2. and I know Woody hit 95 tonnight, maybe 96. 98 according to the game thread.
  3. Phil Rogers???
  4. I believe everyone said this about his last game with the A's. This was his first game back after soreness, and his last game he obviously had some sort of soreness. I'm not fretting yet.
  5. That's impossible. (Assuming you're not including Philly in this scenario.) We can't clinch the division while there's still a team in our division we haven't eliminated yet.
  6. Wrongo He does NOT get free tickets to every game. The tickets he gets are from other fans. He is a giant pain in the butt. Plus he's a prick to everyone who works there. Yes. He gets free tickets from other fans.
  7. I don't think UNC is that good and they could probably win 8 games in the ACC with how awful it is and Butch Davis running the show.
  8. It cannot as Houston can't lose any games and they're in 2nd in the WC. magic number can go down when the WC leader is off WC leader isn't what matters for the WC Magic #, it's the WC 2nd place team. Houston is tied in the loss column with Philly, and HOuston can't lose when they're waiting out a hurricane. It can't go down these next 2 days.

  10. I believe the proper term is "leather larceny."
  11. That idea has never ever been discussed here. Ever. You are the first to think of this. No, really. I know it has, it's just Lee' act of hitting the weakest of dribblers with RISP is growing extremely tiresome. Yet Piniella won't move his "franchise" out of the 3 spot, unless Derrek goes to Lou and says he needs to move for the 3 spot. Until then, "Mr. GIDP" will hit third, for better or for worse. Probably for worse, it's getting to the point where the opposition probably relaxes when Lee comes up with RISP because they know he hasn't a chance. They underestimated his weak ground out to 3rd prowess in this one.
  12. Another china doll on the pitching staff. He can be a good pitcher, but so could Wood and Prior. Everyone in the world isn't CC Sabathia. Bitching about a guy with an ERA AROUND 2 because he averages ~6 innings...just mind numbing. We are depending on him heavily to go far this year. He just missed two weeks with discomfort and has not pitched as many innings as he has this year in at least a couple years. I am so wrong. He pretty much voluntarily took two weeks off with everyday soreness. When you're a winning ballclub you can afford to do that. The Cubs, in spite of the general mood of this board are a winning ballclub. When Rich Harden walks off the mound holding his shoulder you can throw your pity party then.

  14. Yeah he shoulda expected the ball to die against the wall rather than bounce off of it like it normally does.
  15. I hope by 'advance the runner' you don't mean just advance him to third. Why not? 1 Out with Reed Johnson up and a guy on 3rd is much better than on 2nd with 1 otu? The run is probably going to score from second anyway on a base hit. Soto should be trying to drive the runner in, not simply move him over to 3rd. that is true with fontenot there, but I'd rather have him standing on 3b then on 2b with 1 out. Dexter was saying I'm assuming he should've been trying to at least get the ball on the right side of the field. We're saying Geo should try and get hits rather than make outs. It's particularly mind-blowing coming after Geo missed a double by about 6 inches to say he should try and sacrifice himself to move the runner up.
  16. I hope by 'advance the runner' you don't mean just advance him to third. The only way he's gonna learn how to bunt is through repitition
  17. Everything in the world tells us something. Nothing is "meaningless" Is it okay if we stop calling things meaningless and call them really really stupid?
  18. Wow, um, no. Look through the career leaders in PAs and find me a below average player. So then, to follow your logic, a player with a high amount of wins = an above average player, making the win statistic far from meaningless ? Yeah, that's missing the point. Yes players who accumulate a whole lot of PAs in their career are going to turn out to be good players because nobody's going to run a bad player out there that often. Players who accumulate a lot of wins in their career are going to turn out to be good players because nobody's going to run a bad pitcher out there that often. Let me know next time somebody cites PAs as proof that somebody's good.
  19. Get it in and make it Wrigley slightly SW again. I get up, and nothing gets me down. You got it tough. I've seen the toughest soul around. And I know, baby, just how you feel. You've got to roll with the punches to get to what's real Oh can't you see me standing here, I've got my back against the record machine I ain't the worst that you've seen. Oh can't you see what I mean ? Might as well jump. Jump ! Might as well jump. Go ahead, jump. Jump ! Go ahead, jump. Aaa-ohh Hey you ! Who said that ? Baby how you been ? You say you don't know, you won't know until we begin. Well can't you see me standing here, I've got my back against the record machine I ain't the worst that you've seen. Oh can't you see what I mean ? Might as well jump. Jump! Go ahead, jump. Might as well jump. Jump! Go ahead, jump. Jump! Might as well jump. Jump! Go ahead, jump. Get it and jump. Jump! Go ahead, jump Jump! Jump! Jump! Jump!
  20. If the Cubs have clinched HFA, why would they throw any of their starters on the playoff roster? Yeah there's no way any pitcher of importance gets waste. Jake Fox and Sam Fuld might even be allowed to see the big leagues again. Piniella would treat it like the HOF game.
  21. Uhh...when? How can this idiot hold our season hostage? He's welcome to fly to Iowa and we'll have "the Cubs" play them at any time. It's why it's genius of the Stros to push these games back as long as possible. Any time after the Cubs clinch would be just gravy for Drayton.
  22. Wow, um, no. Look through the career leaders in PAs and find me a below average player.
