  1. It's really disappointing that everyone thinks Jim Edmonds has been bad lately. It tells me the front office types still don't know how to read, and I like literacy in my team's front office.
  2. I hate the 26 games in 27 days at the end of the year.
  3. You ever see a top 10 for walking? It's like in little league when you send the smallest kid up there hoping he gets a walk.
  4. Leaving Pie off doesn't mean 12 pitchers. I don't know where that came from. I see the locks as Z, Harden, Dempster, Lilly Wood, Marmol, Samardzija, Marshall, and Cotts Soriano, Theriot, Lee, Ramirez, Soto, Edmonds, DeRosa, Kosuke Johnson, Fontenot, Cedeno, Blanco I'd personally give those last 4 spots to Gaudin, Gooz, Pie, and Ward. If Gaudin's hurt, I'd go Marquis. I could be talked into Hoff over Ward.
  5. I don't think Pie's a lock. I think 11 pitchers is.
  6. the cubs have less than a 1 in 1000 chance of missing the playoffs. Isn't it like 1 in 10,000?
  7. Randy Wolf? Luis Ayala?
  8. I wouldn't believe you if you told me November '06 that I'd be happy with this prospect
  9. We're done with the Rockies by April 14th??
  10. Yeah, I forgot to add at the end that hiring Dusty was an unforgivable mistake, but just pointing out that Krivsky wasn't the guy with the helmet on his head we all thought he was.
  11. Looking back on the Wayne Krivsky era it really wasn't that bad. The Kearns/Lopez for injured bullpen trash deal didn't even wind up burning them much, if at all. It was still a bad deal, because those guys had more value than that, but in retrospect it turned out fine. Krivsky added Brandon Phillips and Josh Hamilton for FREE. Then he picked up an ace starter in return for Hamilton. Yeah, Hamilton turned out to be a stud, but Cinci was more well-equipped to lose a stud OF then to dig up the grave of Jimmy Haynes for their rotation. He got a couple solid years out of Hatteberg for peanuts. Got a great half season from Keppinger for peanuts.
  12. RESPEK I'm just disappointed I was out moving furniture for most of the game and didn't get to break out my "Go home and die Milt Pappas" rant tonight. I tried to text you and Mark to get it out of my system but my phone's a piece of crap.
  13. scary time I guess he's happier knowing exactly what kind of Howry you can get from Howry. But he doesn't walk guys!!
  14. I take that as a complement. I can't imagine the Houston reaction if we had a sign like that.
  15. MLB did allow them to bring their families with which isn't the norm. I heard either 10 people brought their families, or 10 family members came with.
  16. Ryan Wagner was supposed to be pretty good wasn't he? Brandon Phillips even though he came up with the Indians Wagner's who I was trying to come up with.
  17. wow Try putting yourselves in Astros fans shoes. If Chicago was hit by a tornado and hundreds died would you like it if the next game being played in Dallas versus Astros that the Cubs were booed for taking the field? I'm putting myself in the shoes of a Houston or better yet a Galveston resident who's lost their home and belongings and I'm sitting here listening to a multi-millionaire complain about having to go play a baseball game in another city. Complaining about their multi-millionaire families having a couple inches of water in the basement. I'm putting myself in the shoes of people actually affected by this, not somebody who could afford to protect themselves and their families and chose not to, not somebody who played the woe is me card while they were in the bottom 0.1% of people affected by the storm.
  18. Important to remember VORP only takes into account offense. Also important to remember than defense from your RF should be pretty far down your list on things to care about SAD FACE Also, I think Harden goes ~7 in his postseason outing(s) They'll be willing to stretch him to 110-115 if necessary.
  19. No Astros player should have left their families if they were so concerned about them. They had the option of bringing them with and they chose to leave them behind. Probably so their wives wouldn't find out about their mistress in Milwaukee.
  20. Most of the tripe in newspapers and on TV isn't either.
  21. I'll say losing Wrigley wouldn't affect my Cubs fandom at all. It's just a really unnecessary idea to replace it before it needs to be.
  22. lawl at Cinci not top young talent in the past. Brandon Larson, Felipe Lopez(who was a very good prospect and it's insulting to list him with hopper), Wily Mo, Kearns, Brandon Claussen, Adam Dunn, Encarnacion, Harang, I dunno Luke Hudson? I feel like I'm forgetting a pitcher or 2 over the past few years. And Homer Bailey sucks.
  23. Wrigley has a tiny footprint. You cannot rebuild a stadium on the same grounds. You can't rebuild the grandstand in the same spot without poles. The poles make for great sightlines in the upper deck and keep the total area taken up by the stadium small. You tear down Wrigley you either wind up with some nightmare like a stadium in Naperville or you spend a billion dollars building a stadium along with the cost of the property you have to buy in a high dollar area while buying out the current tenants.
  24. Obviously the Cubs are going to win the division no matter what, but this is the same mentality that I heard before Game 5 of the NLCS in 2003. People debated the Cubs losing Game 5 so they could win at home. Sorry that you might not be able to see them clinch in person, but you should be cheering for the Cubs to win every game until it doesn't matter anymore. In 03, I was driving to Atlanta while Game 4 was being played. I honestly was totally torn about what to root for in that game. I wasn't crushed when they lost, but I did want them to win. In retrospect it hurts, but people had these visions of the ultimate celebration at Wrigley, and you could taste it. I don't think I blame anyone for wanting to see it. I was all set to drive down and join the party. I drove from Champaign for Game 7 and drove back after. Worst 3 hours ever.
  25. I don't know. He's a weird bird. The guy is as schizo as it gets. He can look abysmal against teams like Washington, Florida, Colorado, and the Giants, then dominate Philly and the Yankees. I don't know how his inconstency ranks with other pitchers, but you never know what you are going to get with him. Sound like someone we know? The difference is, Perez is the Mets number 3(or 2 when Pedros out, which is most of the time), and I speak of our number 5. Similarly, Cubs fans are completely irrational about Jason Marquis only in the opposite direction.
