  1. I can't think of 8 guys worthy of making this roster. Soriano - Stikes out too much on pitches in the dirt Theriot - Hitting .250 since July Lee - GIDP Machine Ramirez - prone to 0-25 slumps Soto - made Samardjiza give up 4 straight singles in the 6th inning DeRosa - boots DP grounders Fukudome - hit like .100 since the break Fontenot - too small Blanco - too many tatoos Edmonds - an [expletive] Reed Johnson - will probably kill himself trying to make a play; a lawsuit waiting to happen Cedeno - No baseball IQ And that's just the hitters The Edmonds excuse is the epic slump he's been in for the past 2 months.
  2. They'll still blow it bunch of losing chokign loser losers
  3. If people had their way, we'd have like 8 guys on our playoff roster.
  4. Woohoo, they've won two in a row. That's sure heating up. Well if our 2 games losing streak is an epic collapse, it's only fair to be true the other way.
  5. or a 4 pitch inning Yes. That's what I meant. My bad. This is starting to get pretty damn ugly. If Hurricane Ike didn't gift wrap 2 wins for us, we could be in trouble. winner for most ridiculous game thread post of the day? It's a game thread, probably not. I'd imagine there's been something about Rich Harden's vagina, outlandish things about Ronny Cedeno, Michah Hoffpauir, and how Edmonds needs to break out of his slump.
  6. Who's ready for tough guy Lou to leave Harden off the postseason roster because he can't go deep in games?
  7. What's everyone's favorite noun following Prior/Wood? Saga is pretty good.
  8. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the Brewers if they miss the playoffs/get swept in round 1 and don't bring back CC or Sheets. Even if they made a nice signing(say AJ Burnett) to replace one and got a nice bat, I wonder if Brewer fans will be quite as passionate in selling out the stadium every night. It's pretty unbelievable the sellout streak they've managed to pull off since getting CC. If they don't make the playoffs, I wonder if a lot of the wagon jumpers/dying for a winners will jump off/give up and it'll be back to 25,000-30,000 a night. Granted Attanasio and the front office have done an amazing job to even make that the bare minimum for next season, but I think playoffs or no playoffs the Brewers absolutely have to spend and spend big this offseason to prove they're in it for the long haul. They absolutely cannot let CC and Sheets walk and come back with roughly the same team with a few patchwork vets thrown in there. Some sort of splash needs to be made. I'm not saying fritter away money for the sake of spending, but they can't sit back and wait on prospects anymore. The Sabathia trade was excellent and should've propelled them to coasting into the playoffs. It has not, and they need to do something about it. Melvin can't be content with the status quo this offseason.
  9. To use Mark Cuban more.
  10. I think you guys are vastly underestimating what Sheets will get on the open market. If he can go in April, he'll get 14M/per minimum.
  11. I wonder what kind of contract Ben would get if he needed TJS(Not even speculation or anything, just speaking hypothetically) I don't think a pitcher of Sheets's caliber has ever been on the market while injured. He's obviously not going to get the standard rehab deal of 500K + 3-4M for the 2nd year. It'd be a really interesting market to see if anybody signs a guy to a big contract knowing he'd provide nothing the next year.
  12. I think Iowa beats Pitt, but loses to MSU.
  13. Guys who play baseball and hurt themselves doing it need to get the sand out. What does he want to be able to play catch with his kids someday or something? And to do it at such a convenient time for him seems a little fishy. Way to grab for that big money Ben, who cares about the playoffs big jerk.
  14. 7 game lead with 10 to play is interesting?
  15. And with that, anyone be interested in doing awards here to show our moral superiority to the BBWAA? I know there's the IBA that quite a few people around here participate in, but it'd be fun to see what we go with compared to the writers. And it's always fun to see the one out of nowhere vote that shows up on the IBA like when Yhency Brazoban was getting votes a few years back in IBA.
  16. You get 10 spots on an MVP ballot. Ryan Howard would not show up on my MVP ballot.
  17. I called it colossally stupid to do that either in this thread or maybe another, so no, I would not consider Koyie Hill. And I don't even hate Koyie Hill as much as most people. FREE JAKE FOX
  18. The Sheetsless Brewers would stand little chance of beating anybody in the first round to get to the NLCS. They'd just need to steal 1 and let CC win a couple 1-0 games.
  19. It doesn't matter. Regardless of the answer to that question, Jocketty brought TLR to St Louis (so either he brought the players, or he brought the guy who brought the players), while Krivsky brought Dusty to Cincy. Accumulating the right players is one thing. Accumulating the right players and then surrounding them with someone who preaches a sound organizational philosophy and sets the conditions for them to succeed is something else. Give me the GM who accumulates the right players and puts a blind 6 year old in charge over the GM who signs Richie Sexson and Jose Vidro long term while putting vintage Dick Williams in charge(choose your manager here) Talent wins out, even in spite of a clueless fool like Dusty Baker in charger. Another example is to look at the Walks! thread under Cubs discussions. It's obvious our team is better because of the difference between Lou and Perry than Dusty and his crew. And yet Lou and Perry wouldn't have been able to make chicken salad out of the chicken Howry we ran out there in '06. Dusty's problem relating to the '06 team was that it was a team with his fingerprints all over it. If Hendry made smart acquisitions and didn't go with a bunch of hackers that fit Dusty's style they wouldn't have been epicly bad.

  21. No GM has all the answers. It's a legit question to ask who's responsible for the Cardinals diamond in the rough type players Jocketty or the TLR/Duncan monster.
  22. There are some (admittedly stupid) scenarios where it could be a Pie/Edmonds or Pie/Kosuke choice while having 11 pitchers. Ward and Hoff is pretty unlikely now, but before Hoff came up for September and got all of -2 ABs, I thought it was a possibility. Ward and Koyie Hill is pretty colossally stupid, and rather unlikely, but it wouldn't shock me to see it considering Blanco's pretty much the #1 righty off the bench when Reed starts. My gut feeling is the Cubs do the intelligent thing and take Pie, Kosuke, and Edmonds. Leaving off your best option in CF in favor of 2 (or 3 if you include Kosuke) inferior ones is pretty mind-numbing. Edmonds STILL to this day has the best OPS of anyone who's gotten remotely regular playing time.
