  1. And the Obama impression was horrendous. The next funny thing Fred Armisen does will be his first.
  2. I'm still in shock those New York stadiums were signed off on.
  3. If you're going to play that game, then you have to count every hit where he stole 2nd base as a double, and suddenly his slugging percentage doesn't look quite so bad. I already addressed this. It makes it 396 which still sucks.
  4. You want a catcher that tips pitches? Also Hank did hit .292 last year. Did I miss the Koyie tips pitches story?
  5. He wouldn't be a lottery ticket...Even with his decline at the end of the year he still was one of the best players in the American League I'm talking about taking chances on guys like Hamilton or Quentin before they explode at the majors. Quentin was no lottery ticket ... he was a top notch prospect that didn't have a position in Arizona. Hamilton, for that matter, was a top notch prospect as well, but we all know why he didn't pan out in the beginning. Both were top notch prospects at one point who had serious issues. Quentin far less than Hamilton, but both had their issues. I need some reasoning behind thinking a guy with about 50 professional ABs in the previous 5 years is anything more than a lottery ticket. Quentin struggled mightily the year before while going through injury issues all season.
  6. http://brahsome.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/morrison-crying-at-the-tournament1.jpg It ain't pretty when he smiles either. Or looks indifferent. Or pensive.
  7. Everyone knows Cheech & Chong are funny...but can you imagine how funny they'd be if they didn't smoke pot?
  8. The Seattle Mariners lead the majors in not striking out.
  9. Juan Pierre is available. Anyone know how to check if we had a single bases loaded, 0 outs situation where we didn't score this season? Cause I don't recall it ever happening.
  10. have you not seen the Cubs ineptitude at hitting good right handed pitchers enough Team OPS versus right handed pitching: 1) St. Louis .796 2) Chicago Cubs: .793 There's a difference between right handed pitching overall and top right handed the pitchers (the type you face in the playoffs). Two straight years we have been swept because we couldn't hit very good right handed pitchers. And this just in Abreu is a much better hitter than Fontenot. WE JUST HAD THIS DAMN TOPIC AND PROVED THAT THE CUBS AREN'T ANY WORSE THAN ANYONE ELSE AT HITTING GOOD STARTING PITCHING!!! YOU KNOW WHAT TEAMS HIT GOOD STARTING PITCHING CONSISTENTLY??? NONE BECAUSE IT'S GOOD STARTING PITCHING!!!!!! It's like people think there are teams out there that OPS 1200 against the best of the best and somehow don't score 1400 runs a season.
  11. I still think over a full season of regular ABs, Cedeno gives you more upside than Theriot and with our offense, it's a risk I'd take. So I disagree with you. But I really don't want to get into that discussion again. It depends on how the team looks next year. For example, I(and others) wanted Pie to stay in the lineup this season because we were coasting to the division title. Of course it worked out better this way, because now I can heart Jim Edmonds forever. Point being, if we're in position to coast again, that's where you'd go with the high risk type guys, because even if they flame out, you still have a division title, it just takes an extra couple days. Whether we can afford to go with 3 high risk guys(your mileage may vary on how much "risk" there are in each) in Cedeno, Pie, and Kosuke is a different question.
  12. That's what Soriano was smiling about.
  13. Dear Baltimore: Please take a Lee, his bad contract, and a steaming pile of crap and give us your three best players. Deal? Your point stands, but did Nick Markakis get run over a car in your scenario? And another 10 guys who are better than George Sherrill?
  14. He wouldn't be a lottery ticket...Even with his decline at the end of the year he still was one of the best players in the American League I'm talking about taking chances on guys like Hamilton or Quentin before they explode at the majors.
  15. Was Zoilo Versalles a ridiculous fielder or something?(1965) And how much did the writers hate Mickey Mantle('59) And anyone who cna discuss past MVP votes, damn sure better be making their votes in my awards thread.
  16. You're ripping him off if you took it with Holmes.
  17. So our 1-2 hitters would combine for less XBH than our 9 hitters then.
  18. Nevermind the fact that I never said the words PMan is putting into my mouth. I said his OBP is misleading because he's a terrible baserunner. I didn't say his OBP was terrible because he's an idiot baserunner.
  19. 387 OBP. Which drops to 367 when factoring his CS.(his SLG would move to 396 which isn't really accurate, because a big part of SLG is the ability to drive in runs with extra base hits; i.e. single + steal is not = double) Then you've got his baserunning errors that weren't caught stealings. Being extremely generous we'll knock a few points off and you're stuck with an empty 360 OBP.
  20. Hendry can't afford to take a chance on a lottery ticket for a full time position.
  21. The irony being that Theriot's "close to" 400 OBP is misleading due to the many boneheaded baserunning mistakes he made wiping out his being on base.
  22. Worse than Ryan Theriot? Not even close Because Ryan Theriot didn't make several boneheaded mistakes throughout this season. Not even close to worse than Theriot is how I'm choosing to read it.
  23. Are the Cubs fans stupid in general? Yes. That too. In context of what he is, yes, it is.
  24. Not true til Steve Stone confirms it.
