  1. Man, Steve Bartman references, they just never get old.
  2. On the defensive metrics, your mileage may vary on how much stock you put into him. (I tend to devalue UZR subconsciously cause Lichtman might be the biggest prick I've ever dealt with when talking baseball) I certainly don't swear by them, but it's nice to have another set of data to look at for defense.
  3. Pat Gillick may have just got himself a spot in the hall of fame
  4. People said the same thing about Luis Gonzalez. I have a bizarre amount of faith in Hendry that he won't do something this stupid.
  5. UZR had Soriano at +16 last season(best among all LFs) As of June 8th, UZR had Abreu at -35 per 150 games in RF. Since these systems take a ton of work and effort, most of these guys don't release full results. Mitchel Lichtman, the creator of UZR previously worked for the Cardinals, and since getting(and since leaving/losing) that job he has not published full results. Dewan publishes a book, The Fielding Bible with the information. So basically you have to scour around, try and find the info somewhere, or the best of and worst of which most release.
  6. I'm scouring a bit looking for them Fergie. The advanced defensive metrics are a little harder to track down. I've got Soriano as +15 in '06 according to John Dewan, and Abreu as -12 for '07.(He was -40 cumulatively from '05-'07) http://www.billjamesonline.net/fieldingbible/overview.asp Here's an overview on the methodology.
  7. Correct. He had it all set up too. He coulda "started" the game with Balfour, then when Jenkins was announced, pull him for Price.
  8. This has not been a good managing job by Maddon. Price probably shoulda went about 4 in this game.
  9. ARam granny? We have a winner Man that game was awesome.
  10. Soriano would probably be better in RF than Abreu.
  11. Then why is he always wrong? And why is he the one who actually looks like he hasn't emerged from a basement in 20 years?
  12. So even when you lose, you win.
  13. Why don't you want Johnson back? He'll be 32 and because he's roughly 1/3 of a useful player. Pie plays better defense so if you want a defensive replacement use Pie. A team like the Cubs should only platoon if they have to. They should not plan on a platoon before the season starts. It's is a waste of both roster space and money. I don't understand many people on NSBB who talk about platoons like they are a good thing. But that's just me. I have no problem if they are signing him up for a 4th OF position. Wouldn't the weak end of an OF platoon be a 4th OF?
  14. Why don't you want Johnson back?
  15. I am no longer 100% sure Peavy won't be traded, but I am still around 75% sure he won't be traded. To me there are a two teams with a legit chance to land Peavy; Cubs and the Braves. So unless Peavy is willing to waive his NTC to go to the AL, Peavy will be with one of three teams; Cubs, Braves, or the Padres. So with such limited options, IDK if the Padres can get even a Dan Haren type package for him, which is why I believe Peavy will be staying with the Padres. But if the Cubs are willing to take Greene or Giles (provided he would be interested in going to Chicago, which is doubtful right now) I think a Peavy deal could get done. But I still am not optimistic about a Peavy deal. Giles shouldn't matter, they have a team option on him. If he has negative value to them, they won't pick it up.
  16. My mistake, misread that, thought you were talking about for the 2009 season. Do they really see Rottino as starting material?
  17. That's way more than necessary IMO. I think you underrate how much value teams feel Marmol has. Marmol and any one of those guys you mentioned would get it done. Talking about giving up our top 2 tradeable prospects, a former top prospect who still has value, a league average cost controlled starter, a speedy cost controlled SS that gets on base in addition to a guy who'd immediately become a stud closer for them?
  18. I loved Donnie Avery before the season started. If Bulger can play semi-competently, Avery should remain a good play.
  19. October is the 2nd least rainy month in Philadelphia.
  20. Really? I thought it was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Doesn't he have a fairly cheap option?
  21. Thank you. I know there's no sense in reasoning with certain people about Soriano's defensive skills, but he's probably an above average defensive LF.
