  1. I like Atkins more than most, but I liked him as a swingman/middle reliever. That's crazy. It's funny, if it's Hill, I'd be a fanboy of every guy going to San Diego, and I'd love the crap out of the trade.
  2. I don't see why it would. From where I'm sitting, this is moving much faster than anyone would have anticipated. There are really only 3 serious players for Peavy, and Towers probably needs this to be done sooner rather than later, because he has other players he's looking to move and will need to know what spots need to be filled. I'm just glad I have a busy slate this weekend so that I'm not spending 24 hours a day waiting to see this deal happen. I had way too much time to kill during the Roberts fiasco. In the event this deal goes down sometime this weekend and I'm not here and Peavy goes to the Cubs, let me officially say that I will have been very excited about the trade (assuming that Marmol and Soto were not part of the package). I'd hate Hendry and the Cubs with every ounce of my being if they included Soto. Sorry, Meph says we'd have to in order to get him.
  3. And Kansas's last year right??
  4. The Braves deal was centered around Escobar, they'd pretty much have to give in on Hanson to get it done now.
  5. Can't wait for Mariotti's next Trib column.
  6. If he can get Peavy without giving up too much, I'll gladly give him a mulligan on that horrible 2006 trade. He's defintely had more good ones than bad ones, at least when we're talking major trades and not the type of trades no one on either side cares too much about. He did quite well in the minor trades of Todd Walker and Freddie Bynum.
  7. Dave Kaplan is the dumbest mammal alive.
  8. Potentially, but the problem with PTBNLs at this point in the season is that you never know where a guy will end up come June/July. If they make Flaherty a PTBNL and he's out for the season with a torn hamstring come June/July, the Padres will look like morons. Well we could do what the Brewers did with CC they had a PTBNL and gave the Indians two choices between michael brantley and taylor green. We could give them 3 choices say they can pick from Flaherty, Carpenter or Jackson. That way they get time to scout them over most of the summer and pick who they think is the best one. And then when Jay Jackson has a 0.26 ERA on July 1st, the Cubs look like morons.
  9. Josh Vitters, Drew Rundle. Tony Thomas, Brandon Guyer, Jovan Rosa, Starlin Castro, Junior Lake, Dae-Eun Rhee, James Russell? I was thinking more Hernandez and Suarez. Forgot Suarez and was going to go in and edit him in, not sure how valuable Robert Hernandez is. Welington Castillo? Marquez Smith? Ryan Flaherty? Alessandro Maestri. He's not really worth anything.
  10. Josh Vitters, Drew Rundle. Tony Thomas, Brandon Guyer, Jovan Rosa, Starlin Castro, Junior Lake, Dae-Eun Rhee, James Russell? ETA: Larry Suarez, Robert Hernandez. Man, that's a lot of guys I couldn't care less about losing.(+Vitters, Rhee, Suarez, and Hernandez)
  11. It is also believed that no FSU football player has graduated since 1985.
  12. He's hurt because his claims that the Cubs don't have nearly enough for baseball-Tebow might come untrue. Meph doesn't take kindly to his heroes being knocked on their ass. In this case himself.
  13. Yeah, Meph, i see nothing on that link.
  14. I'd be really sad to see Kerry Wood in a different uniform, but Dempster at 4/48 is a better deal than Woody at 3/36.
  15. If anyone remembers when I said "I bet Dempster will sign for 3 or 4 years at $40-$45 million since he's such a good guy", as well as anyone else who assumed he'd do some sort of hometown discount, now is the time shove it in our collective faces. I think Dempster's overplaying his hand. You can't fault him for wanting to get the most money possible out of a team(or the Cubs if that's where he really wants to be), but starting pitching is the one thing that there's a decent amount of this offseason. He could wind up Lohsing himself.(at a greater $/year, but still)
  16. I can't hear the name Portillo's without getting it or something similar. Luke's combo for lunch it is.
  17. Apparently, St. Louis threw away their Bellhorn book when he got traded to the AL, thinking they were never going to face him again. Oops. Idiots.
  18. The book finally came together after Bellhorn shoulda won the MVP in the '04 WS. That series was the final piece to the puzzle.
  19. Im curious abou the Cubs young pitching. Mashall? Ceda? Atkins? Papelbon? Would it cause a massive NSBB uproar if Jay Jackson was involved? No, not even close. It can involve any pitcher not named Marmol and there will be no uproar. Jackson can't be traded til June. If I'm not mistaken, he could be a PTBNL if the Padres are willing to accept that, and if the Cubs are willing to include him. PTBNL have to be settled within 6 months. Meaning the trade would have to wait until 6 months before Jackson's sign date.(which I'm sure is closer to early July than late June.

  21. Michael Young might be a worse pick than Palmiero.
