  1. Do you have even a little belief that this is the last/biggest move of the offseason? Why would you think that, because they happened on the same day? I don't see how you can't think Gregg is the answer to Wood being let go. Unless you're in the Padres crave a 5M mediocre closer camp.
  2. 1 good reliever out of 4 high priced contracts!! *shock* It's like nobody remembers Scott Eyre. Or Bob Howry. Or Mike Remlinger.
  3. Uh...........the White Sox? Dotel at $5 million and Linebrink at $4 million, perhaps? I was looking at just the best of the non-closers on those teams(i.e. Matt Thornton), but yes, the White Sox are a good comp, paying their 4th best bullpen arm 5 million dollars. Scot Shields is another one and David Riske is pretty close Scot Shields doesn't make 5M.
  4. Iowa St. may be willing, but they will not be accepted. Maybe they can move to the MAC.

  6. who would go into the sec to make it a 12 team conference again? i guess they might go after georgia tech. Bolded. guess i should read the whole post. i can't see florida st leaving the acc; they've been in there for a long time. i can definitely see USF going to the sec, if they were asked to join. i can't see big basketball programs defecting from the big east or acc, which would eliminate the NC schools and louisville, but i could see schools like USF or clemson defecting. How does the fear of Sylvester Croom and Rich Brooks play into their decisions?
  7. I'm not sure Gregg would last 2 months in the closer position.
  8. Wood should sue the organization for negligence for 1998-2006.
  9. I can't find a single playoff team that had a 5M setup man. I'm not sure there's one in existence that wasn't paid by the Yankees. The draft pick is assuming that Gregg does well enough for us to qualify as an A in addition to not accept arb.
  10. You don't pay 5M + a prospect for good enough. Would anybody be satisfied with paying 5M for an averagish setup man as a free agent? Why are we ok with spending 5M + a prospect who could've possibly filled that spot?
  11. They're non-tendering Wuertz. That might be even dumber.
  12. Has anyone mentioned how stupid it is to come out on November 13th and say we're done with you? I mean what's the point to this?
  13. Any of those hideous black bulls jerseys are loaded with bad karma.
  14. Yeah, Iowa St. isn't good enough academically or athletically for the Big Ten.
  15. I just looked up Gregg's stats from the past two years, and I've confirmed that this post is completely insane which of those guys is gregg significantly better than? Cotts, Wuertz, Guzman, Samardzija, and Gaudin have been worse than Gregg the last two years. Each of which have their own excuses.(Well not really Cotts, but he's kind of an enigma to me) Wuertz killed Lou's dog and ran over Hendry's daughter so he's never been given consistent usage in the pen. Gooz hasn't been healthy for more than 2 consecutive days until last season. Samardzija decided to start trying mid-way through last season. Gaudin was starting. I admit these are far from locks for outproducing, just my personal opinion. When you throw in the AAA train of Ascanio, Hart, Atkins, Ceda(if he was here) I don't think it's a stretch to say this is not a 5M improvement.
  16. On the bright side, he managed to survive doing that with a horrible defense behind him, and he's moving to a good one. On the negative side, everything else.
  17. What I'm trying to say is we may have literally been better off releasing Jose Ceda. The fact that that can even be a stretch of the imagination is mind-blowing.
  18. Pitchers currently in the system that aren't starters that I'd rather see on the mound than Kevin Gregg with the game on the line. Marmol, Gooz, Samardzija, Cotts, Gaudin, Wuertz, Marshall(if he's not a starter) THAT IS 7 GUYS A FULL BULLPEN. That's without even getting into whether Gregg is even better than Ceda right now.
  19. Just wait until Hendry signs Gregg longer term, and Wood winds up somewhere for reasonable dollars. Come on IMB, you've seen this movie before. It's still not a comparison at all. What is Gregg's top-end contact? 3-12? 3-15? We're still talking about a saving over well over $20 million dollars, and at least Gregg is a safe bet to still be pitching by the end of that deal. Signing Woody would have been a stupid move. Not that that fact would make a Gregg long-term deal palatable, but the Woody ship had sailed, regardless. Gregg's top end contract is way higher than 3-12. 3-24 probably would get him to sign this offseason. Otherwise he'll get 45 saves closing for a team that's good in spite of its management and get 5-60 next year. This is awful.
  20. Dear Jake, I need a new Cub to worship. Please come here. Thanks. Bye.
  21. Then state it as the deal is: Gregg for Ceda + Wood and a 4 year guaranteed high dollar contract. Unless saving 7-10 million per year on Wood frees up payroll to trade for someone like Peavy or a solid bat. 10M??? How little do you expect Gregg to make? How much do you expect Kerry to?
  22. You could look at it that way, or you could look at it like Gregg and 4-6m to spend on other players to upgrade the team for Ceda and Wood. Oh good, I hope we can spend the 4-6M on Mike Fetters.
  23. 3 run HR in Game 7. It was a 2 run shot Huh, I'm not sure I ever looked back at the box score since then. The more you know...
