    Good luck with that. Go for Maris while you're at it. Now those would be real "witch hunts." You can nit pick all you want but nothing in baseball history will compare to your tarnished heroes from the steroids era. You sound like someone told you there is no Santa Claus. You're the one who's refusing to accept that players cheated before Barry Bonds. Why am I supposed to pretend like steroids were invented in 1994? Why am I supposed to stick my fingers in my ears and say lalala I can't hear you, I'm not listening when I hear that Aaron was on roids and greenies? Why am I supposed to turn a blind eye to the rampant coke use of the 70s-80s, and rampant greenie use for who knows how long. I'm not the one with illusions that these people are something they're not.

    Why would an owner want to sign a player with the promise he won't take PEDs? They want to purposely make bad signings to appease the McCarthys? This fogeyism is ridiculous, all your heroes were cheaters too. I want to be the one to etch the asterisk on Aaron's plaque. I got dibs.

    suck it. Illinois might have 1 or 2 losses playing in the Big 12. It's just bad. Not to say the performance this season from Mizzou isn't good or unexpected, but, man it'd be nice to play that schedule just to get a high seed in the tourney. Yeah, but if we had to play Mizzou's schedule we wouldn't get to beat them. And I know how you Missouri guys are around here, but come on, you're close to a lock.

    If Houston signs Dunn, they'd probably do something stupid like bench Pence. Of course with Dunn and Lee in the corners, it might be even stupider to have Pence patrolling CF between them.

    Because we got burned on the Peavy deal and traded DeRosa to free up money before that was set in stone. I have no hope that this is true, but what if we were interested in Hudson to play SS and move Theriot to platoon with Fontenot? That would make me very happy. And I don't dislike Theriot that much. How's Hudson's defense at SS? He's never played there. However, his range at 2B is phenomenal, and his arm can't be worse than Theriot's. It'd be a big risk for Lou to take - and I don't think he will - but I think that'd be a solid upgrade. That'd leave us with literally no power on the bench, however. We already have no power on the bench. Very true. We do have an open spot on the bench, however. As of now, we could fill that spot with a power hitter (Rich Aurilia, Nomar). If we sign Hudson, though, that open spot goes away and leaves us with no power whatsoever. Rich Aurilia just signed a minor league deal with the Giants. At least I think thats what I saw on ESPN about an hour ago. Ah, hadn't seen that yet. Ok, Nomar it is then. I hate Aaron Miles so much.

    They were just made illegal two years ago. Strong coffee pretty much did the same thing. Coffee has been used for years. I doubt any homerun records were dismantled because of greenies. methamphetamines were made illegal 2 years ago? They've been illegal in the same way steroids were illegal in baseball from the moment they were criminalized in the US. And beacon of hope, Hank Aaron broke Ruth's record on the stuff. Truly a disgrace. It's a double standard due to back in my day-ism, and the fact that Bonds is a miserable jerk while Aaron is a lovable hero.

    He wasn't Dunston, but he wasn't exactly Eddie Yost. Just a 344 OBP, just a .059 difference between that and his AVG. Of course, what a manager did as a player doesn't necessarily affect his teams. Dusty was more patient than Sandberg, and we know how his philosophies went. Lou loves walks and he hated them as a player.

    It's a 2 man race between Battle and Turner IMO.

    Shockingly, I think yes. He was getting offers from the Cards and somebody else at the time. With guys like Ray Durham and Orlando Hudson still on the market I'm shocked he's employed, though. Well yeah, at the time he had offers. The FA market has tanked since then and I can't imagine Miles could compete in such an oversaturated market.

    I think that's what'll happen with Trammel as manager. to be important, more important to be nice> Yeah, I could see that, However, you get that sneaky suspicion JH would want another name manager. I hope not. I'd like to see someone lower-profile like the Red Sox did (at the time) with Francona or the Rays with Maddon. I think Tramm could fit that bill. Has there been any impressions out there of Ryno so far in his mgr career? I don't know if it's rang true in his actual managing, but to hear him talk, he seems really old school, and the type that would small ball you to death.

    1 rebound! the guy is 7-1 and he has 1 rebound. he is skilled, but he needs to grab the ball off the iron, too. It's not his fault that Mike Davis grabbed every board. Tisdale hasn't really played much in the post today, so he hasn't had the same opps.
