  1. The first one would absolutely shock me. As Raisin pointed out, he couldn't do any workouts for teams so it would be weird if he went only to do interviews. But the second one seems very reasonable. Medicals get misconstrued all the time, especially when they are based on tests performed by someone else. Cubs could have gotten a different angle on some imaging or something that they didn't previously have. Certainly not saying it's likely or probable, but it is at the very least possible.
  2. I had this thought as well. If the Cubs' medical staff uncovered something additional in the physical, they may not even sign him at all and pick again at 69 next year. They have to offer 75% of slot to get the pick next year, though. Wiggins may decide that the risk is too much and just accept it. Unfortunately there really isn't anywhere to spend the overslot money anymore, unless they could convince an undrafted prep kid into signing.
  3. He snapped off a few good sliders but for the most part, they were lacking. He wasn't getting any swings and misses out of it.
  4. Yeah, the inherited run scoring was just like what happened to Ferris yesterday.
  5. Horton’s slider didn’t have its usual bite tonight. But then again it’s been 2 weeks since he’s pitched, so that may have something to do with it
  6. I'm pretty sure most on here would love a Bellinger extension for 5-6 years. But he's a Boras client and it's just not going to happen at a price point that makes sense.
  7. The interwebz is pretty unclear about this, but does anyone know if it still is true that compensation picks are protected for a year if they are in the top 3 rounds, as this pick would be?
  8. I will always remember him calling the Hayden Simpson pick when literally nobody had ever even heard of the kid.
  9. For all the PSD alum, did Marlin Bystro ever make anymore appearances? That guy was money.
  10. That seems just about right for peak. As a hitter, I keep going back to Starling Marte for my comp.
  11. I remember 1908 from the PSD days as well! I jumped ship over here when PSD was doing Yagyu dirty and never went back. Welcome. FWIW, I've found this place has way fewer insufferable posters than PSD did. Yeah, definitely looks like TJS. Heal him up and get him in the lab. That's a fantastic gamble for zero overslot dollars. Sanders was not somebody I penciled in overslot money for. It wasn't much, but certainly interesting. But that is easily made up by none of Moore/Brown/Flanagan/Bowser taking any overslot. I think Moore and Bowser probably should have gone back to school (unless they also have injuries I don't know about) but you won't hear me complain.

  13. Same. Didn’t think they could get that one done. Great news.
  14. Completely agree with you, but the article DID mention both Stroman and Bellinger. You package them together and a top 50ish prospect is well within reach.
  15. It’s all good. Cubs ended up with Strumpf in the 2nd and went way overslot on Hearn later on. Both guys well outside the top 20 in the system after 4 years. Pretty awesome. Sigh.
  16. Same. I was more dismayed that they passed on Brooks Lee rather than being down on Horton, but I also need to eat a bunch of crow early on.
  17. As expected. Nice to get it done so quickly so he could theoretically get into games early.
  18. @Brock Beauchamp Jefferson Rojas absolutely needs to be added. B.J. Murray and Drew Gray have a good argument as well.
  19. Haven't had a BA subscription in years, but do they detail how the Nationals pick would work? Do they get placed in the lottery and then automatically get pushed to pick 11 if their pick was in the top 10, with all the other teams moving up a spot?
  20. He was talking about Sanders, not Wiggins. I made the same goof. Sanders can throw strikes, it's just that he's been pretty hittable when he does. He's a big dude and it's not hard to imagine the Cubs being able to take his fastball from 92-94 up to 94-96 to play with his good changeup and help him develop the slider.
  21. I'm with you. As I said, I didn't like the pick at all. Would have been easier to stomach if he came with a bigger underslot deal, but it is what it is. Hopefully this pick had the Carter Hawkins stamp of approval. He seems to really know his pitching.
  22. I really hated that pick, but I have to remember that Wiggins supposedly was terrific in fall ball. So much so that Van Horn tabbed him as the Friday Night Starter for this past season before he blew his elbow. Van Horn wouldn't put the 2022 version of Wiggins in his Friday Night spot. Edit: I apparently can't read and mixed up Sanders and Wiggins. Nothing to see here. Carry on.
  23. I would say the current state of the system seems about where it should be. Only real big faller is Davis. Horton went meteoric. Rojas and Ballesteros jumped up a bit. None of the rest really gave us any reason to be overly concerned or overly excited just yet.
