  1. Yeah, I've always thought that if you feel the need to always tell everyone how great of a fan you are, you're just seeking confirmation of the same. Truly good fans don't really care about that stuff. It's all about the game, if you ask me.
  2. No bleachers for me. The luxury of Redbird Club access and seats in section 249 for Friday, the Ozzie Smith party room on Saturday, and back to Redbird club access and sec 250 for Sunday. I'll be in my Cubs attire and rooting them to victory, so I'll report back on how well I'm received by the "Best Fans in Baseball." Last time I was there (all decked out in Cubs gear), I was treated to chants of "1908", "wait 'til next year", etc., etc.... I ignored them all, and it did test my patience. However, to retaliate would only encourage them and draw more blather. Besides, I would look just as moronic as they do if I did that. 8)
  3. Enforcement is the key. If automtic ejections are handed out regularly for such behaviour, it will be minimized. If it is allowed to continue, it will only get worse, IMO.
  4. If he had simply answered the questions while under oath instead of dodging them, we wouldn't even be having this discussion as he would be a first round lock. Even if he told the truth (admitted steroid use)?
  5. Didn't Kent get hurt off-roading, or something like that, and then lied about it because his contract prohibited it? IIRC. Seems like that happened when he was playing for the Giants....
  6. Seems to me that the Cubs pitch around him alot. Apparently, others have not yet caught on....
  7. I think you're probably right. That chenged the whole complexion of their offence, dramatically.
  8. Seems to me the Cardinals have trouble scoring runs without the homer....that sound familiar?
  9. Steroids...Edmonds???? I don't think so...., but I have heard that he goes both ways. :P
  10. I know it would be hard on me. I'm tearing up at the very thought.
  11. Wouldn't a 'classic' save be a three inning save? I mean, really, the one inning save is still relatively young.
  12. Isringhausen has three saves already. I agree, his skills seem to be declining slightly. At some point though, that will affect his confidence. I mean, how can it not?
  13. When I was a child going to Cub games, the upper deck was rarely open. Essentially, Opening day (maybe) and the summer holiday weekend games - that was just about it.
  14. Jesus, I am so freakin' sick and tired of seeing Cincy hitters teeing-off on our pitchers!! :x :x :x
  15. Is wind a factor now?
  16. Hey MET, I actually went to Auburn Hills to watch the beat-down at the hands of WVA. That Pittsnogle dude is a real 'Hoosier' (Saint Louis folks understand what I mean by this term), but a pretty good player. I think the Dawgs shot their wad in the MVC tourney, and really did not have anything left in the tank for the ncaa's. I guess that's what happens when you only have nine active players on your roster. Their depth will be much improved next season. My first Cub game is not until May 18...., but I may show up on SIU day too. There is a 'friendraiser' at the Cubbybear North in Lincolnshire next month where alums can meet/mingle with Coach Lowery & several SIU basketball players - $50, includes food and drink. I think I'm going to head out into the boonies that are the northern 'burbs for that. PM me if you want/need more info.
  17. Thankfully, my best friend owns in a loft on St. Charles (@ Washington). I always have a place to stay in the gateway city - free of charge. 8) :P
  18. Didn't the Cubs offer more money than the Braves but at that point Maddux was just fed up with Cub's front office? I thought it was Maddux offering to come back at a salary he had been offered by the Cubs back in July or so, but Himes said he could no longer offer that amount. I believe it was actually slightly less than the Braves were offering. This is the closest to the truth. According to most reports, Himes offered Maddux a contract and Boras and Greg wanted to shop the offer. The Cubs told Maddux that was the best they could do and they needed an answer because they couldn't wait while other pitchers signed contracts. Boras told them that Maddux wasn't ready to sign, so Himes went out and signed Greg Hibbard, Jose Guzman, and someone for the bullpen. A few days later, when the only offer better than the Cubs came from the Yankees, Boras phoned back and wanted to take the Cubs offer. Himes told him the money was spent and the offer was no longer on the table. That to my recollection was how things transpired. Maddux then signed with the Braves, and we know the rest of the story. One last thing. IIRC, the Cubs told Maddux to wait until the season was over becuase they did not want to do contract talks until the end of the season (some kind of (new?) club policy). Then, shortly thereafter, they announced the big deal locking up Sandberg for what was essentially the rest of his career. Maddux then said it would not matter what they offered - he was not going to sign with them. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid organization. When your reigning Cy Young award winnner says he wants to work out a LT deal to stay with your club, you do it. I mean, why not? He was young, healthy, and VERY effective. Nope, the Cubs management just treated him like trash. :x :x It used to anger me to no end, each and every time I saw Maddux in that Braves uniform after that. I mean, what a bunch of freaking morons Cub management was!!!!
  19. Braves hat. It's really not even debateable.
  20. Hey guys, don't mistake fans with the team. They are not the same thing at all. Sure, I can't stand their arrogant fans - but I dislike ALL arrogant fans. I mean, it's not like the fan actually did anything, except choose to cheer for a given team. They've got nothing to be arrogant about. Also, the brand of hate I brandish for the Cardinals is as much jealousy as anything. They seem to almost always have, or get, what I want the Cubbies to have. I respect the heck out of the Cardinal organization because they're able to consistently put a quality product out on the field (except for most of the 1970's). All that being said, I hate the Cardinals with every ounce of my Cub-fan energy. :P Still respect them though. :)
  21. Is this your idea of some kind of cruel joke?
  22. I've heard this same comment about him by many.
  23. Rolen, hands down. They're both injury prone, so that's a wash. Offencively, I give Rolen the slight edge. Defencively, Rolen's edge is the whole blade.
  24. Navy Pier, the number one (by attendance) tourist attraction in Illinois. Millenium Park (and the Park Cafe - very good food). Various theatres - 'Rent' and 'Wicked' are both playing this year, among others North Avenue Beach Take a cruise on the Lake/River Top of the Hancock or Sears Tower (Signature Restaurant at Hancock is AWESOME, but very expensive. Seafood - Shaw's Crab House Pizza - Lou Malnati's (stay away from touristy places like UNO, etc.) Steak - Chicago Chop House That's just a few things off the top of my head...
  25. How well did you handle that conflict?
