  1. Wow!!! You really do buy into it!
  2. The fans didn't say it. The players did. So, do you believe they are 'baseball's best fans'?
  3. Well then, that certainly lends alot of credence to it.
  4. lmao How's the air up there?
  5. I agree with your conclusion, but not with how you got there. Many bad teams just get pummeled, all the time, with very few one-run games.
  6. First of all, just because 'everyone else does it' does not somehow make it respectful. Second, I don't think it ever landed.
  7. Becasue he took four steps before he started running, after a gigantic home run? Are you serious? I hope Oswalt does it. Simply because I want to see Albert go out to the mound and snap that punk in half.  I think Oswalt is a twerp..., a talented twerp, but one nonetheless.
  8. Becasue he took four steps before he started running, after a gigantic home run? Are you serious? Ya, sure, why not? You can bet that Gibson or Drysdale would have covered their teammate under such circumstances. Oswalt has the rep, so it would not surprise me at all. I'm not saying Oswalt will hit him, but I'll bet he brushes him back, for sure, as long as the situation presents itself (e.g. nobody on base).
  9. IMO, in order to give a 'discount', a player would be able to get more to play elsewhere. Since Pujols could not even negotiate with any other team, I don't understand how anyone could possibly perceive that he 'gave' the Cardinals any kind of 'discount'. Simply, it was a money and security grab for him and his agent. Yes, of course it is turning out to be a good deal for the Cardinals - but no so-called 'home team discount'. If Pujols is hurt and his performance is negatively affected, it's not such a great deal for the Cardinals, huh?
  10. We will all get our answer soon enough. Oswalt is known for dusting guys. Let's all watch closely during Pujols' first AB against him. If there is nobody on base, I'll bet Oswalt gives him a little chin music.
  11. I understand what you're saying, and I agree with you, to a certain extent, however, that was an absolutely horrible pitch that Lidge threw there. A hanging slider, belt-high, right down main street. Mick Kelleher would have hit that out...., well, maybe not, but you get the picture, huh?
  12. Berkman was running (in my opinion) because he hit a soft liner to left that probably felt like it should have been a long single. I imagine he was probably thinking about stretching it into a double. Pujols hit a home run. I think Berkman knew, he has hit enough wall scraping cheapies into those boxes to recognize one. I just don't like the bad ass stroll out of the box staring down the homer routine. I don't like it when ARam does it, I don't like it when Manny does it, and I don't like it when Pujols or others do it. At least jog for Pete's sake. If someone did that to me when I played ball, I'd have earholed him in his next AB. I agree. And you can go ahead and mark down Sosa's little 'homer hop' as one of those things as well. Very disrespectful, IMO.
  13. No. The Cardinals are still playing. But it makes me wanna puke hearing Hrabosky always talk about Ramirez and the others who stare at their homers but then he never says anything about Pujols. As I said earlier, it's not just him, but a whole bunch of fans and STL media, too. HOM101 (Intro to Homerism) - This introductory course discusses the various mannerisms and approaches to showing support for the home team, regardless of whether or not they act like chumps. Can be taken in conjunction with HOM120 (Rose-coloured glasses)
  14. I really liked Pujols at first, but he is really disrespectful with the way he stands and watches his homers now. He wasn't like that when he came up, but has developed that habit over time. I don't care for it any more than I cared Sosa's stupid hop. Plus, he's a Cardinal. It is every Cub fan's birthright to hate any Cardinal. Ya, he's a great player, but..... He's been disrespectful watching his homers for a while now. Do you remember when Gary Bennett confronted him about it? He's been doing that for a couple years now, and it is tacky. Yes, I do remember that. All the Cardinal fans were immediately coming to his defence and calling Bennett bush and what-not..... If I was pitching, I would put Pujols on his arse if he did that to me or one of my teammates. More than once, if needed. Really? And the Astros celebrating like they had won the pennant after Game 4, and again after the Berkman homer last night, and again with 2 outs in the 9th last night................. that's not disrespectful? What's the difference between Pujols walking trotting to first base and Berkman clapping and dancing around first base? Nothing, really, and I never said there was. We were talking about Pujols watching his homers, not the Astros over-celebration.

  16. Not only did we Cub fans have a painful season watching a bad team muddle through the season, but now we will have the added kick in the nuts of being tortured by a Cardinal/White Sox World Series. Seriously, where is the mercy of the baseball gods??????

  18. Yeah, I think something broke when Albert hit that ball. That was a real crusher, and I think the Cards definitely have the upper hand now. The momentum shift was almost tangible. I agree. I am hoping like heck that the Astros will knock out the Cardinals, but I really sensed the shift when that happened. It was eerily reminiscent of the 2003 playoffs with the Cubs & Marlins. Oswalt or Clemens are capable of squelching it, but the Cardinals clearly seized the momentum and took the air outta that place.
  19. I watched it too, and yes, it was unbelievable. Pujols is an awesome player.
  20. agreed I like this responce.
  21. I hope Houston wins it all. The White Sox guy in my office this morning ripping on the Cubs has sealed the deal for me. I just don't get it - your team wins the pennant, and the first thing you do is run over and grave-dance on the Cubs??? What losers. Gawd, I hate the White Sox even more now.
  22. What if the season was shortened to 154 games?
  23. Well obviously, if they'd known what pujols would be, or even suspected, he wouldn't have been 12th round. But at some point (period of time), you have to attribute the general success of a farm system to skill rather than luck Oh, I agree with that (general success), but Pujols is anything but general.
  24. I certainly recognize the Cardinal organization's ability to recognize and develop talent, but Pujols is off the charts, and has been since the first day he stepped in from AA-ball for Bobby Bonilla. The Cardinals got real lucky with this bloke, that's for sure. You guys ask, 'why the Cardinals?' - luck, and that's it. No scout could ever predict the kind of success this guy has had since day-one. I am sooooo envious of the Cardinal fans because of Pujols... Oh, how my hatred for the Cardinals runs deep!
  25. Ya, Farnsworth would probably give him the 'Paul Wilson treatment'.
