On the subject of losing streaks...I thought I heard Pat Hughes say that this season was the first time the Braves lost as many as seven straight in FIFTEEN :shock: years...not sure of the source for that.

I have pretty much stayed out of the "Fire Dusty" fray....until now. I don't believe that this team has what it takes to win, even if God (or your omnipotent deity of choice. If you are agnostic, I guess maybe Bobby Cox would fit the bill there) was the manager. That being written, I don't believe that this team's faults are necessarily Baker's fault. The old saying - "you can't make chicken salad out of chicken poop" holds here. It is what it is. I will say however, that this poor team has really magnified Mr. Baker's shortcomings, and it seems very obvious to me that he has lost the players. Baker is a decent manager when he has talented players who all get along (team chemistry?). But, when you toss in a heavy dose of adversity, he clearly cannot hold the team together and get them to PLAY together. Besides, he is very average at in-game strategy, and poor at handling his pitching staff. His man-love for certain veteran players is befuddling. His absolute refusal to change strategies, even in the face of overwhelming statistics proving the folly of said strategies is also befuddling. It makes him look either stupid, subborn, or arrogant..., or all three. He needs to go. This organization needs to get rid of the whole coaching staff, except for Dick Pole (don't you laugh at that name!) and Chris Spier. JMO.

This is the best, IMO. You have to walk a few more blocks down Jackson, but you do not need to transfer, and you will likely get a seat on the subway.

You Cardinal fans get to enjoy a better game out of your team, most of the time. There is something to be said for that. As a Cubs fans, I must say that it would be nice to contend for the pennant every year, even if they didn't win it.

This might be a dumb question, but how is his avg. higher than his OBP? If you are getting on base via base hits, with little or no walks, HBP's, or errors, then your BA could be higher than your OBP, no?

If everybody who ever did that went to jail, there would be far less free people. And if everybody who didn't like what someone else said chose to punch them, it would be one heck of a society that we live in. Even Barrett said that he was wrong. I'm not sure why you're all still defending him. AJ did nothing and said nothing. It's all on video. 10 games doesn't seem like much. He sucker-punched the guy, for crying out loud. You can't do that on a baseball field. Nobody "defended Barrett". Read the post. I even noted that the suspension is appropriate. I want to know how YOU KNOW he didn't have a reason, which is what you wrote - Yes, I saw the film, and I could detect nothing, however, unless I was there the whole time, I cannot definitively state something like I knew it. There could be all sorts of history between these two that you are not privy to, right? You don't know what Pierzynski may have said earlier in the game, do you?

He might have something of value to say, but his writing is terrible. He uses stupid little pet names that make him seem petty and really kind of catty. Mariotti is such a tool.

They both have sucked in the past, and will do so again (maybe not at the same time, though). Unfortunately for Cubs (and their fans), the Cardinals are usually only down for a few years at a time when it occurs.

This quote pretty much sums it up for me: A couple of years ago, the brass was embarrassed by the team, so they gave Baylor the axe. They want to win alright - just as much as we the fans want them to win.
