Rothschild was under appreciated by the masses. With that said, they're obviously not as horrid as they've shown so far. Seemed like they also walked a lot of guys when Rothschild was around.

I hope you're right about Pena, but he has had plenty of opportunities for the Cubs, and has just been plain awful. If indeed things even out over the season, and he reaches his "normal" level... I don't know, he just does not impress me all that much so far...

You are probably correct, but I really don't see a scenario where this team scores a ton of runs consistently. I do believe that their pitching will improve, and I sure hope they can correct the defencive lapses. That offence though, is going to have its struggles unless they add a big bat in the middle of the lineup.

I never tire of hearing of Reed Johnson. What a pick up. The guy has been nails for the Cubs. It's guys like him that make the difference, IMO. I love Reed Johnson.

That team is a reflection of Bobby Cox. Cox is a good manager, for the most part, but he is really old school, and takes great offense to the smallest perceived slight or insult. He encourages this type of activity. JMO

How do you know that for sure? No offense, but I doubt Hendry tells reporters all the deals that he's discussing. OK. Believe what you will. I think my track record holds up pretty well. No offence, but the last thing I consider is your track record. I don't care. I care about the Cubs making themselves better. It may be all BS, but maybe not. I'm only reporting what my buddy told me. Either he's all wet, or you are. Time will define the truth of the matter. How can you not consider somebody's track record? Aren't track records the only thing we really have to go on? Has your imaginary friend given you good info before? If so, what? If not, why would you believe him? Sorry to butt in, but I've been coming here a couple years and Bruce never starts unsubstantiated rumors, and it's pretty irritating when jealous a-holes give him crap. Totally uncalled for. I agree with Bruce here, but that's no reason to insult anyone. Sorry about that; I got carried away. Apology accepted, since I guess I was the one you were referring to as a jealous anal sphincter with make believe friends....

Perhaps my comments were rash, and they did not perfectly relate my thoughts. It seemed like the comments I passed on were being transformed into some kind of street cred pissing contest, and I'm not into that. I was simply passing on some info related to me. I'm not staking any kind of reputation to it, because I don't have one to stake. I hope it's true, but I don't know. Take the info FWIW.

Actually it would most likely lower our team OPS. Jones can SLG and Suzuki can get on base. It's a classic tradeoff. SLG for OBP. I don't think Jones's arm is as bad as last season led us to believe. He didn't have that problem in Minni from the archive games I've seen (Cubs scouts didn't see it either) - so it must have been the shoulder injury, which supposedly didn't require surgery. Jones's range is fine. People were actually clamoring for him to play CF. I see what you're getting at...I agree about the opb/ops trade-off. You may be correct about Jones' woes afield last season (injuries), but he was flat-out awful defencively for most of last season. If he stays, I hope to see improvement there.

A friend who works for a players' agency told me this. He's usually pretty informed. Not a done deal, just something being discussed right now. Thanks, gus_dog. Let's hope this one is true. What liklihood would your friend put on it? He didn't say....I actually hadn't talked to him since last baseball season. He called me to find out if I was still a Cubs season tix holder, and then we discussed the Cubs off-season moves, and he said he had heard this deal was being discussed.

My biggest concern is that it could be Pie. That would kill the deal for the Cubs, IMO. Why would Pie have to be named later? Seems to me that PTBNL would point to a 2006 draftee, or a recent signee. Basically anybody else could be swapped immediately. or a pool of existing players to choose from by a certain date, and I would not want Pie to be in that pool.

To follow-up on my initial post: Ichiro would like to go somewhere else due to the direction the Mariners have gone (competitively speaking). Mariners looking at it financially, and prospect-wise. Jones wants out - not happy. Cubs happy to oblige him at the right price. Make the deal, and everybody's happy, right? Jones & Gallagher for Suzuki - Id do that. Now, bringing in a ptbnl, I t REALLY depends what pool they get to pick from. Plan B guys or what? Don't know, but I like the two for one. I'd do it in a heartbeat. It makes the Cubs better, and I think really addresses the OPB/OPS issues, as well as the defencive issues. Now, if we could just get Prior to pitch like a #1, and stay healthy.... :x

I'm hearing that Hendry is trying to swing a deal - Jaques Jones, Gallagher & a ptbnl to Seattle for Ichiro Suzuki.... Unconfirmed on the players, but from what I am told, they are in talks for Suzuki....

Please, don't hate Neifi. He is a good bench player. Emphasis on bench player. Hate those who express their man-love for Neifi by playing him over more logical choices.

To be fair, that's just Bruce's interpretation of what they'll do. For all we know, they planned from day one to extend Baker and all of this is just trying to pass it off to the public as the right move. Entirely plausible. ...and likely, IMO, based on what I have seen and read, and what I know of Hendry and Baker. Baker is, and has always been Hendry's guy. I know that Baker is VERY unpopular here, but I will say this: The Cubs managerial job is Baker's, if he wants it. The only way Baker leaves is on his own terms. His job has not been in jeopardy at all this season - that was just wishful thinking on the part of fans and some writers. JMHO.
