  1. The Cubs haven't had much luck in cf since lofton left. It's good to see Patterson get things going again, but he was horrible w/ the Cubs in 2005. The "fans" had got into his head. They pick up Lawton who had a good obp, and he sucked beyond belief. Now Pierre is awful. I really supported the trade, but if he continues to struggle, either move him to 8th in the order & move cedeno & murton to 1-2, or deal him, or bring up pie.
  2. The cap in the NBA is very loose, hence why teams like the Knicks can get just about any bad contract they desire (which often appears to be all of them). It's loose for bad contracts, but not good ones. NY couldn't add someone like Ray Allen who could have really helped them. Cuban would have no restraints in baseball. That's absolutely wrong. If the Knicks wanted Ray Allen, they could give up any expiring contract (ie Penny Hardaway) and had him this season. I believe the Knicks still have a portion of their MLE as well, but if we wanna discuss contract situations in the NBA, might be a good time to split this discussion off. That's only if Seattle agrees to a sign and trade though.
  3. Stone Cold Lock Prediction - Juan-O-Meter dips under .230. Seems like a nice guy, but he's playing like a bum.

  5. it's been tried in the nba a lot, w/ little success.
  6. The Cubs need to gain more slugging. They have enough single's hitters. They'd gain over 200 points in ops, and Cedeno looks like he can be an adequate leadoff man. If Cedeno was struggling, I'd be pretty hesitant to deal off Pierre, but the Cubs need a shake up and a lot more power. They don't need to gain 200 points of OPS out of their CF. If the team wants to upgrade OPS production, you do it in RF or SS. Ideally, that's where they should get it from, but you gotta take what you can get. Abreu & Tejada might not even be available come July either.
  7. IBM PC :)
  8. How do you explain the 80's, and early 90's? I don't see the point in using such absolutes. It's not remotely true. and really, how difficult is it to make the NBA playoffs? I wouldn't exactly call that a great accomplishment. Have the Mavs made it to the conference finals even? Cuban has done a lot to revive that franchise but making the playoffs in the NBA is quite different than doing it in MLB. That's an excellent point. They made it to the conference finals in the 2002-2003 season. But that's it. Every other year they lost earlier. If you took the top 8 in the NL, the Cubs would have made the playoffs in 2001 and 2004. That would mean 3 playoff appearances in 5 years and who knows what would have happened in the playoffs. The Dallas Mavericks have been slightly better than the Minnesota Timberwolves have been in the regard that the Mavs make it to the second round before losing and the T-Wolves lose in the first round. ah it was 2003. best thing cuban did was get don nelson & his run & gun/no defense out of there. i didn't like cuban for quite some time, but he's finally learning how to construct a winner, with some fiscal responsibility.

  10. hopefully they're not selling to another huge corporation. I'd like to see Cuban buy them. I like that he has finally kinda moved out the way in Dallas. Perhaps he'd hire DePodesta as GM.
  11. CUBS are on a pace to hit 127 home runs this year..... compared to 194 last year  CUBS are on a pace to draw 446 walks this year..... compared to 419 last year :)
  12. My prediction in the words of Johnny Drama,"VICTORY!"
  13. he could probably hit better with one arm than nef and juan w/ two.
  14. Quite frankly, some of these threads belong in rants.
  15. God I hope not. Then it will be "ending the trip on a positive note", and prolonging this charade. cmon. seems like people are starting to root against this club. it's way too early. What I fear the most is the team hanging around long enough for Hendry to play the injury card and reward Dusty with an extension in return for his years of dumbassery. I don't see the Cubs having any real success with Dusty at the helm. He needs to go, the sooner the better. definite paradox. i don't like baker either, but i don't want to see them flame out so quick. i want them to still be in it when wood & lee return, and see what happens. i have zero confidence in prior btw.
  16. schmidt owns the cubs. they should be able to get into sf's brutal pen the next 2. keep hope alive.
  17. Lots of weak chins here. No thanx.

  19. IF you think he's never gonna have a shaky outing, Im not sure why. Not sure why you included the 12 Million in there either. He's been great all year. Just sounds like a smart ass comment because he gave up one of Hill's runs. sorry. he was awesome. the money spent on him should definitely have not been spent on a serviceable outfielder. obvious inability to be balanced.
  20. "the 12 million dollar man" has been one of the few guys earning his money this year.
  21. seriously, dude. give it a rest. i said he did good. too bad eyre couldn't keep vizquel from scoring. won't look good in the boxscore.
  22. He should've been pulled sooner. Let Eyre come in with the bases clear. No reason to tag extra runs on the kid. pull him after 5?
