  1. Source? common sense. 1. the trib wasn't going to throw down the money. 2. the cubs had to pay giles as much or more than aram. rammy probably wouldn't like that considering his ops is better than giles and he's a lot younger. give giles 3 & 36, and lee probably asks for more than 5 & 65. 3. his family's in sd and you know better than anyone how nice of place sd is. Didn't the Cards make him an offer? Giles had nice things to say about STL, and if he didn't take their offer, he wasn't going to take a Cubs offer. He demonstrated what an extreme preference he had for remaining in SoCal by taking the money he did. I can't recall. LA was interested in him tho.

Nah, I asked for a source, not your opinion. If all you can provide is your opinion, then I suppose it isn't "pure fantasy", because your opinion is no better or worse than mine. c'mon. guy wasn't going anywhere. now getting Soriano would have given this team a lift, but that flies in the face of moneyball.

  4. baker probably cost this team the first two games in sd, with his bizarre lineups and not putting dempster in either game.
  5. Would rather see Pie brought up to play CF instead of rf, and platoon Jones. However, gotta give Pierre more time, and Pie's probably not ready yet. I don't think anyone can pinpoint a move that could have been made in the offseason that would have significantly improved this team. Signing Giles was pure fantasy. Nomar wasn't coming back to possibly make a fool of himself in rf when his hometown team offered him $6 million to play 1b. Milton Bradley's on the DL and Coletti wasn't going to trade him to Chicago anyway. The biggest critics of Hendry wanted nothing to do with Soriano, so don't go there. Bad road/split remember. The Lee injury is a back breaker, but keep blaming Hendry.
  6. Cedeno would plan 2B, just like the Cubs were planning to do when they sign Furcal. So you're suggesting that Nomar should have replaced Walker and his 1.5 million then. Good luck defending that.
  7. That's not the point, and I suspect you know that. The point is that the extra month delayed Wood's surgery and rehab. If he had had that extra month, he would have been pitching since mid-April. huh? i was addressing someone suggesting they know more than cub doctors. i suspect you know that.
  8. gotta love how the above average baseball fan, who knows more than the doctor's, who said wood wouldn't do any further damage to his arm,if he pitched.
  9. when you have 3 rookies starting, there's a good chance 1 or 2 are going to suck. unless you're the cardinals, of course. maddux will turn things around tomorrow. well we should only have 2 rookies in a week and a half and just 1 shortly after (unless prior needs tommy john ) i wouldn't count on prior.
  10. With Lee out, might as well let Prior rehab til August. ;)

  12. He's a major league baseball player. If he can't take booing without going in the tank, he should find another line of work. cubs fans might as well become impulsive philly fans then. doesn't matter right?
  13. Go ahead and call your shot now. St. Louis is the team I'm concerned with in the division. Cincy & Houston will cool off. The Cards are 5 up already on the Cubs, but I think that Wood returning will give the team an emotional lift, and it's hard to win with 3 rookies starting. I think the Cubs roar back. Cards can't be lucky w/ no pitching injuries 3 years in a row.
  14. COULD HAVE TRADED CHOI FOR A RF. GOD HENDRY'S STUPID!!!!! :D
  15. I think there needs to be a "How's Choi doing?" "How's DuBois doing?" and "How's Bobby Hill doing?" thread. The Corey & Nomar threads could get lonely. :D lol at Nomar choosing playing rf and possibly making a fool of himself over returning home to LA for $6 million to play 1b.
  16. thome would have brought home a title in 2003.
  17. get.. over.. it..
  18. Yep, he's starting to make me sick, but hopefully the fans don't start to booo him ala Patterson. Last thing the Cubs need is Pierre under .200.
  19. gmafb. garciaparra wasn't coming back as a rf or backup 1b, and if he's back, then cedeno's still in iowa and $6 million goes down the toilet cause nomar's probably hurt again by june. nice hindsight tho.
  20. the hitting shows up and the pitching doesn't. when it rains it pours...... :(
  21. Doesn't everyone? the pitching's been alright actually.
  22. Probably if he didn't stop, but that being said the ball could have easily been caught. oh, for more speed! ;)
  23. i can't get the game. any chance murton could have scored on that blooper?
