  1. I can see Boston trading Manny. The Cubs could send Boston Kerry Wood, Patterson to replace Damon, and Wade Murton. Jmo but I think the Cubs are in the process of forcing Wood out by putting him in the pen. If the Cubs could move Wood, they should still have enough money for Giles. Put Pie in cf and Cedeno at SS. Get the leadoff man from 2b. I'm not sure if they want to bring Hairston back?? With the way things are going, it looks like Dusty could be gone, so perhaps Hairston will be back. Lineup: 2b. Hairston, rf. Giles, lf. Manny, 1b. Lee, 3b. ARam, cf. Pie, ss. Cedeno, c. Barrett 2-5 would be lethal. Starters. Z, Prior, Maddux, Williams and Hill With the way the free agent market is shaping up, looks like few starters will be available, and I wouldn't trust Wood as a starter.
  2. Hendry should have swung a deal for Soriano. Hopefully, he does so in the offseason, the Cubs can fit Soriano into their budget for a year. Give Texas Kerry Wood, and some prospects.
  3. Carpenter signed an extension through 2007 with an option for 2008. As someone else said, Mulder has a team option for 2006. :x I hate the Cards. Bet they got Carpenter cheap. Of course, if he came to Chicago he'd get hurt right away.
  4. Nomar got on base 3 times today. Would like to see him moved to 2nd in the order. Lawton has 1 walk in 6 games w/ the Cubs. Anyone think he's being "Dustified" and going up there looking to be aggressive.
  5. Ah I found that Mulder has a club option for $7.25 million next year and $8.5 million if he meets certain incentives. Will the Cards keep him?? He's beens solid, but far from spectacular.
  6. I was looking at a list of free agents and saw their names. Have the Cards gave either an extension?? If not, I'd love to see the Cubs go after one of them. Kerry Wood cannot be relied on as a #3 starter anymore, so the Cubs are essentially 1 starter short.
  7. No need to use hyperbole to try to prove your point. I never suggested Hendry should shield him in the minors, just echoed a concern about his ability to adjust to MLB pitching if promoted too soon. The Cubs already did that once, it'd be a shame to do it again, imo. My guess is they won't be able to get him down there again. So they'll either have to deal with him if he's not ready or trade him. And right now, I'm guessing Hendry has practically thrown in the towel. CPatt isn't working for a September call-up to save the team, he's working on increasing his trade value. Agree. It looks like Pie will get a shot at cf next year. They won't increase Patterson's trade value by letting him sit at Iowa.
  8. I thought the all-knowing Mariotti loved Baker.
  9. Do you think the boos will help Corey perform better? Fragile or not, deserved or not, I think they could have a negative effect on Patterson's performance, which is something I care about. If he can't take the booing, then he'll never make it. What is Hendry suppose to do?? Keep Patterson in the minor's forever to shield him??
  10. Just bat him 7th, which isn't too important of a spot in the order. It sounds like Zambrano was really p'd off tonight at the d.
  11. Bring in Girardi. Hasn't he spent lots of time w/ Torre?? I'm so sick of Dusty that I'm about ready to root for a 40 game losing streak, which would hopefully ensure the final nail in that fraud's coffin.
  12. Hendry's lost his mind if he picks up Grissom. Just bring up Patterson and see what he can do. At least try to raise his trade value, as it appears Pie's the guy in 06.
  13. Get Patterson back up ASAP!!! I don't care what kind of Bill James fielding efficiency "stat" can be thrown out there, my human eye tells me the Cub defense is well below average. I feel sorry for the Cub pitchers.
  14. I'd be surprised if it's 90 or over. This looks like a year of parity. Florida's quite talented, but can't seem to get going and just had a few recent injuries. Houston's top 3 starters are great, but their 4 and 5 suk and their hitting is not good. Washington will be under .500 soon, and Philly and NY are spinning their wheels as well. The Cubs still have a shot.
  15. Baker should give Burnitz a few days off and start Murton in LF and Lawton in RF. Burnitz is really struggling.
  16. The team's not toast. Houston's nothing special. Put the best players out there and try to win. Sorry but Murton, Cedeno and Hill are not the best players at their positions.
  17. And one more thing..... :o Houston's far from invincible. Their offense is not good. I don't think anyone's shaking over Tavares, Biggio, Berkman, Ensberg, Lane, Palmeiro, Ausmus and Everett. Also, they're counting on 2 starters w/ 6+ ERA (Astacio and Rodriguez). Houston's had some pretty good luck w/ neither Clemens, Petitte or Oswalt going on the DL. If Oswalt or Petitte go down (they've had past problems), Houston could go Washington and melt away fast. Jmo but the most complete team's Florida.
  18. Oh ye's of little faith. The Cubs are still 5 out w/ 10 to play against the wildcard leader. Houston's hitting is nothing to write home about and an injury to Oswalt, Petitte, Clemens or Lidge could send them reeling. I see no reason to waive the French flag yet.
  19. Young position players be given a chance? It could've been done if Hedry didn't sign Burnitz and Hollandsworth. And why is it that the Cardinals lose good players and the players they acquire step right up and fill in well? The answer is good decision making by the GM. Example: Last year Womack was good at leadoff for the Cardinals. They let him go and needing a good leadoff hitter they get Eckstein. We needed a good leadoff hitter and we get? The Cardinals are lucky. Send Macias there and his obp probably jumps to .360.
  20. Can only hope Dusty goes to LA. However, I can't see DePodesta hiring him. I really like Hendry, but he's pretty bullheaded. Hiring Baker was a huge mistake. Baker took over a very promising pitcher staff in 2003 and overextended it. He lets guys like Neifi, Patterson and Macias bat 1st and 2nd. Actually, a book could be written on how overrated Baker is. Perhaps if the fans ride him hard enough, he'll quit.
  21. Think about it. Over the 2004 and 2005 seasons, the Cubs had invested close to $18M in Remlinger, Hawkins and Borowski. That amount would have paid for Jeff Kent. I know - it's not an apples to apples comparison. Yep, Kent would really help. If Hendry just passed on Burnitz and Walker, the Cubs would have been able to afford Kent though. I think most, including myself, were pretty fired up about the signing of Hawkins, and the Cubs had no relief prior to Remlinger's arrival.
  22. The Cubs are like any other smart organization. They overhype their prospects in order to raise their trade value. Unfortunately, some fans buy the hype hook, line and sinker. I'm kinda glad Hill got shelled. Hopefully, they send him to Iowa and give Rusch the #5 spot. Hill isn't ready yet. What he did against weak hitting teams like AZ and SF was nothing to get fired up over. As for Garland, bad trade cause the Cubs got so little in return.
  23. Am bumping this. Don't want to see another Hill 5 inning outing or 1 inning outing.
