  1. Yep, I think that will be the outfield. Some people really undervalue defense. Cub pitching is not that good. Murton & Hairston may be the odd men out.
  2. How about this lineup: Walker Giles Lee Aram Burnitz Nomar Murton Barret looks good to me. ORRR keep Lawton Lawton Giles Lee Aram Burnitz Nomar Walker Barret me likey Here's my guess at what they do.... 2006 lineup ~ Lawton, Nomah, Giles, Lee, ARam, Walker, Patterson & Barrett. Lawton, Nomah and Giles fit Trib m.o. They won't sign long-term, expensive deals. Howevah, they're older and Nomah and Lawton are injury prone. I don't think they'll give up on Patterson and give him another year, but he's probably holding down the fort for Pie.
  3. Would be nice to see the Cubs extend Lawton, as he address the leadoff spot. 1. He gets on base. 2. He steals bases. 3. Dusty has to like that he has speed and is a vet. The odd man out may be Murton, as the Cubs will probably look to add more power in the outfield. Murton isn't some 5 tool guy, so I'm not upset. He'd be special if he was a 2b, ss, cf or catcher. HowevAh, he's an lf, which makes him average. Sorry.
  4. Good point. Could be a complicated deal w/ Cincy picking up Griffey's deferred money.
  5. Could Hairston be going to SD for Dave Roberts?? Roberts could bat 8th and solidify the D or the Cubs could bring up Patterson and Roberts could be the 4th outfielder..
  6. Lawton, Nomah, Lee, Griffey, ARam, Burnitz, Walker and Barrett :D
  7. Nice pickup. Would have liked to see something bigger, but unfortunately idiot organizations like Cincy and Tampa held many of the cards. I hope the league moves Tampa to Vegas.
  8. Nice!! Get Cincy to pick up the deferred money and I'm cool.
  9. Roberts has a better RC/G than Hairston, 5.6 to 4.9. Roberts has been HORRIBLE in July after having 2 very good months by his standards. In 55 July AB's, he's hitting .109/.254/.109. Ack. So don't trade for Roberts cause he's sucked in July? Didn't say that, just offering his July as an explanation why his numbers are similar to Hairston's, yet he's been more productive. Ahh gotcha. Was going to counter w/ SMALL SAMPLE SIZE. :D Think that term has been out 4000 times on this board before. :D

  11. zzzzzzzzzzzzz The team needs defense and slugging from the 6th spot too.
  12. Maybe it's something like... Soriano & Roberts to Chicago Walker to Tx Hairston to SD Can someone throw Roberts park adjusted numbers out there? :D
  13. I dunno, he's got potential. His curveball is devastating, but everything else is kinda average. However, with Wood being as unreliable as he is and Maddux getting old, I don't see how trading Rich Hill is even an option. Have seen this written before. Seems people are overhyping him. I don't care what Hendry's said about not trading him either. Gm's do that all the time to increase value.
  14. Is Hill anything special or just another guy the board obsesses about (see Jason DuBois) who's far from special.
  15. How the deal look if it's Manny, Youkilis and $10 mil. of cash??
  16. I'll take Griffey and Dunn. Cincy just needs to pick up some of Griffey's money. :)
  17. My guess is Cliff Floyd, with Soriano going to the Mets.
  18. Sometimes I think that many of the people at ESPN (Olney and Gammons in particular) are so preoccupied with the teams from the northeast and what they are doing that they overlook the rest of the world. You think Tampa or NY leaked the alleged deal?? Hendry's seems to keep things quite confidential.
  19. Sure seems like the Cubs could offer a better set of players than the Mets. Burnitz, Walker and Rusch could all help Boston this season. With Cruz coming to Boston, the Cameron deal could be dead.
  20. My guess is that Hendry values Manny over Dunn. Perhaps by quite a bit, especially if Boston is willing to send $10-15 million Chicago's way. Maybe I'm misreading your reply, CubfaninCA, but I think sonic was saying if he Hendry wouldn't give the Reds Hill for Dunn straight up then, why would they give Cincinnati Pie + others for Dunn now? Not why give more for Manny instead of the other deal to try for Dunn. yeah, i was a little ambigious i suppose. but i guess you could make the same point about manny as well. does hendry really regard manny that highly? does anyone really know how hard hendry is pursuing manny? i know hendry does a great job of working under the radar, but it seemed like the major sports outlets had speculated much further in-depth on the cubs getting aramis and nomar then they have this deal. i wouldn't be surprised if the cubs were able to pull it off, but it just seems like it's not that likely to happen. all i hear is mets and devil rays from everywhere, except of course NSBB. i don't think anyone has a real clue what's going on with hendry this year. there's just too many possibilities, and too many intangibles to figure out what's going to happen next. 16 more hours to go, damn it. buster olney: "this saga is 99.9% dead for everybody" I'LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT YOU LIARS Well Hendry's not a Moneyballer who goes strictly by numbers. I think he'd assume that Manny would get back to his 1.000+ ops w/ a change of scenery and Hendry probably prefers Manny's pennant run/playoff experience.

  23. Heck give them Walker and move Hairston to 2b and Patterson to CF. Hairston, Nomar, Lee, Manny, ARam, Murton, Patterson, and Barrett. Sure that's predominately right handed, but that lineup would score lots of runs.
