  1. Since baseball is a lot more individualized than basketball or football, I don't think having a leader is nearly as important. I mean who lead the team in 2003?? Sammy?? Seems like half the team hated him. Jmo but you don't need a Tom Brady or Tim Duncan to win in baseball.
  2. With Williamson & Wood being added to the pen, any chance of this?? In 10 starts, Rusch had a 3.32 ERA as a starter, which is better than Prior and nearly as good as Z. Hill was alright vs. SF and Arz, but those offenses rank 13th and 9th in the NL, and it's getting down to crunch time now. Hill can get his chance next year, along w/ Murton.
  3. All season long the Cubs havr taken major hits in the gut. Nomar's injury. Prior and Wood going down early, and then Wood going down a few more times. Finally, the Cubs are getting nearly everyone back, and they just added a real good leadoff man. Would be nice to see them rattle off 8 out of the next 10 before squaring off with Houston at Minute Maid. Yes, they play 4 against the Cards before going to Houston, but I'm still optimistic.
  4. Have to disagree that the offense stinks. It's not great, but it's a little above average. You hit the nail on the head about Dusty and the pitching though. Wood has killed the Cubs and Maddux is nearing the end. Williams and Hill have posted nice ERA's for young guys, but they're only going 5-6 innings, and the pen isn't very deep. Jmo but Baker needs to start Rusch. His ERA is lower as a starter than Hill and Williams, and he averaged 6.2 innings as a starter.
  5. Excellent. The dislike for certain players grows whether the do anything or not. I know I wouldn't pay to see a team made up of Choi, Hill, Cedeno, Harris, DuBois, Hairston and Kelton, and apparently other major league teams agree. Actually I think some would pay big money to see this team. Choi, Hill, Cedeno, ARam, Murton, Carlos Beltran, DuBois, catcher???? That team would walk it's way to 50 victories, but thank God Macias is gone.
  6. I would be suprised if he ever makes it back to the big leagues. He's easily fooled by off-speed stuff. if he never makes it back, it's because major league gm's are stupid. minor league numbers matter, even if his first couple hundred major league at bats havent gone as well as one would hope. Bring up Bull Durham. Crash Davis? Or Nuke? Crash Davis. Been a while since I've seen the movie. :) Hasn't Trenidad Hubbard (sp) had a great minor league career?? Where's Roosevelt Brown nowadays???
  7. Maybe if the league expands to 32 teams. The guy's pretty brutal defensively right??
  8. Sounds good. Put Patterson in cf, and make Murton the lead pinch hitter.

BUT ALL THOSE GUYS TAKE WALKS!!! The hate for Macias is out of control. It's almost a wash between him and Holla. EDIT: You get post of the year sir. The consensus wanted nearly all those guys you listed starting. =D>
  10. If the Cubs give Cincy 7 prospects, MAYBE they can get Kearns. Dunn might take 15. That organization has no clue.
  11. I think we would be better off letting Lawton go and let Murton take his place. He can probably put up numbers similar to Lawton at a much cheaper cost. The problem is that Dusty would probably stick some old bum like Hollandsworth out there instead of Murton. Lawton prevents one of Dusty's favorites like Neifi leading off. Gotta keep him. If the Cubs had a manager w/ half a clue, then I wouldn't have a problem w/ Lawton not returning.

  13. Good post. Thankfully Hendry's the GM of the Cubs.
  14. The problem with that is if you take away a day of rest from Prior and Z, they are less likely to go late in the game. There's 5 off days in the last 45 days. Seems like they can work something out.
  15. Playoff run? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Please. Nomah >>> Neifi, and Lawton should help this club. They should be able to hang in there for a while. If Houston beats up on the Cubs, then of course it's over. "We'll put it together when we get our guys back" is the same line of crap they fed us a year ago. Have you forgotten that already? Sorry, I'm not falling for that lie a second time. Have you forgotten 2003?? Uh no, this team is nowhere near as good as that one. And that Astros team wasn't as good as this one. Yes, bring back Choi/Simon, Gonzo and Damien Miller.

  18. Take Williams and Hill's 5 inning outings out of the rotation and we may not see much of Remlinger, as Prior and Z usually go late into the game. Maddux really needs to pick up the slack though. Perhaps Kerry Wood can pitch 2 innings every start Maddux is due?? I like Hill and Williams and hope they're 2 of the starters next year. However, I don't want to see them starting down the stretch run. Be interesting to see how a team handles facing Maddux for five-six innings then sees Wood for an inning or two. I hope that's how they use Wood. I can't imagine him pitching every other day. Maybe he can hold up, if they only give him 2-3 innings every 4th or 5th day.
  19. Pencil Murton into Cooperstown along with DuBois.
  20. Maddux & Nomah = Giles. Giles won't hit the jackpot due to his age and his loss of power. Some may question whether he was "aided" in the past.
  21. Lawton, Nomah, Giles, Lee, ARam, Walker, Patterson and Barrett would score lots of run. I'd much rather have Giles and his obp, power, left-handed bat and experience over Murton. Too bad Murton can't convert to a 2b or catcher. If Pie steps it up, Patterson could be the odd man out.

  23. The Cubs have 2 shutdown pitchers and they hit for lots of power. If you average out runs scored per games played, the Cubs are 6th out of 16 teams in NL. (I think they edge out Milwaukee, who has played 2 more games). Don't believe the propaganda that the Cubs offense suks.
  24. The Cubs have essentially been 1 starter short all season, and this has been a much bigger killer than taking walks. I don't want to turn this into a bash Kerry Wood thread, but yeah his injuries have been devastating. Also, I'd rather see Glendon Rusch starting, as his ERA is lower than Hill or Williams as a starter, and he tends to go a little longer in his outings. The Cubs have off days on August 18th and 25th, and on Sept. 1st, 19th and 26th. I highly doubt Dusty does anything, as he prefers giving player's time off and saving them til October 1st  , but getting Z and Prior a few more times around could possibly turn things around.
  25. It all boils down to beating Houston. Any chance the Cubs resort to a 4 man rotation??
