You don't want a weak hitting pitcher to sac bunt? It's not like he would've done anything positive swinging away. He shouldn't have been hitting at all. How listless does this team have to get before Hendry is forced to can Busty? Hendry's a stubborn man. May have to root for a 20 game skid in order to get Baker canned.

Why not pinch hit for Williams and bring Wood in in the 6th? Is Dusty rewarding Williams for 4 runs in 5 innings or is Wood unavailable.

Hmmm, I guess Steve Stone and the Red Sox probably wouldn't have much use for Tony Gwynn. Ah Tony Gwynn comparisons now. :D Wasn't Gwynn a really good defender?? Also, it didn't hurt that he batted left-handed. One thing is for sure, Murton can hit lefties. I hope this board doesn't crash w/ excitement after Murton's single up the middle in the 2nd. :o

NO TRADE CLAUSE. You don't think Wood would waive his no-trade clause to go to Texas? Are you kidding me? Hell no. Why would he go to that hitter friendly park? He's already said he loves Chicago, his house his here, his wife loves it here, and he doesn't want to go to an AL team. I know he's from Texas, but I wouldn't want to go voluntary pitch in that park especially with the DH teeing off. I think I read that Kerry prefers the NL. What if the Cubs don't want him anymore?? I'm sure Kerry can afford another house elsewhere.

NO TRADE CLAUSE. You think Kerry will consider pitching out of the Cub bullpen in 06 his best option going into free agency. My guess is that his agent will tell him to get out of Chicago asap.

Moves needed: Bring up Patterson asap and get some defense on the field. The Cubs defense of late has been awful!!!! Put Nomar in the 2 hole. Make Rusch a starter, and put Hill in the pen. As of Augut 15th, there's 5 off days. Dusty needs to skip Williams starts and go 4 man rotation when the Cubs have an off day. Yes, yes, Maddux isn't producing, but you can't sit a Hall of Famer like Maddux.

He's young and takes walks. There's has to be another great hope after DuBois. :) If Murton could play 2b, I'd really like him. However, I'm not getting excited about an OF who lacks power and has average speed. If he had good speed, he'd be a nice cf.

I'd love to see Wood traded but his value is way too low right now. That's why they need him in the pen. My hunch is that Boston would like to unload Manny's remaining salary and bad attitude in the offseason. Wood, Murton and Patterson is nice compensation. Boston's one of the few franchises that can absorb Wood's health issues. Here's a question. The Cubs got Murton from Boston...so either Boston didn't want him or Chicago really did...so, if Boston didn't want him, why would they want him back and if Chicago really wanted him, why would they give him up? Genuinely curious. If Manny's dealt, they'll need a left fielder. Something they didn't need a few years ago when Manny couldn't be moved. Perhaps people shouldn't be getting too fired up about Murton since the Great Theo dealt him.

Let Wood pitch in relief and show that he can at least offer something, and then trade him in the offseason. Hopefully 05 is the end of Kerry Wood in Chicago. Get him out of Chicago for something before he leaves in free agency for nothing. Send him, Wade Murton and Patterson to Boston for Manny. Kerry may like the idea of being traded instead of being stuck in the Cub bullpen next year, and killing off his free agency value. Kerry has done nothing to earn a starter's spot ever again. Give it to Hill or Williams.
