Prior w/ 69 pitches in 4 innings. Cmon at least make 7 innings against this scrub lineup Prior! Pitch like the ace you were billed to be. Save Kerry for tomorrow.

I like the idea of Lawton, Griffey and Corey. Put a fork in Burnitz. I like it too... Maybe if we can pull off a miracle and sweep the 'Stros, Hendry will make a big move like that.... Why do I always get my hopes up??? I'm liking how that series shapes up. Rodriguez v. Rusch. Hopefully Wood gets in there. Maddux v. Petitte and Z v. Oswalt. Thankfully we skip Clemens. :D

Or good coaching, something the Cubs sorely lack. Yeah, LaRussa goes and swings the bat for these scrubs. gmab TLR + Macias = All Star I'm not saying a coach plays for them, but they do have an impact. They're teachers. They teach. If they didn't have an effect nobody would have coaches, or am I wrong in that line of thinking? No need to be a smartass about it. LaRussa's the hitting instructor??

Sportsticker tidbit on Kerry. Looks like it's his call. RHP Kerry Wood will be used out of the bullpen exclusively until he decides to have season-ending surgery on his right shoulder. "Kerry sooner or later will have surgery on his shoulder. We believe there is some fraying in the rotator cuff," Cubs trainer Mark O'Neal said. "You can say that about a good majority of pitchers that are in the big leagues, however we don't expect to find significant damage in the shoulder but we'll know for sure when he has the surgery." Wood pitched a scoreless inning in Friday's 4-1 win over St. Louis. ... -

I don't think you need to be a doctor to know that there is damage to his shoulder that will need to be cleaned out via surgery and that the cortisone is a short-term heal that weakens the cartilage around the point of injection. They should've shut him down, IMO. Sorry, I don't have the qualifications, how many here have played pro-ball? Why should any of us have any of opinion that might go against what any team does? I just doubt the Cubs are going to risk hurting him more and throwing all $12.5 million down the drain next year. I'll give their doctors and the organization the benefit of the doubt. -
I didn't mean that the offense has helped his ERA, just that the offense has given him wins (moreso in the past than this year), and his ERA is based a lot on luck. .284 Batting average against 1.38 WHIP Less than 5 Ks/9 This is the worst season of his career statistically, but the best in ERA. BAA, WHIP, K/9 and walks are at a career worst for him. He's not good. Isn't the ERA based on real good defense?? Vlad, Finley, Cabrera, Molina and Erstad are are well above average defensively correct?? The Cubs can't hold a candle to the Angels defensively. Washburn's fielding independent ERA is 4.44 this year. Link What does that mean?? :) That the Angel d saves Washburn over a run per game?? I'd believe it. They can really field. I bet Cardinal pitchers really benefit from good fielding too.

Yeah, exactly. And now you see why everything we touch does not "turn to gold." Rodriguez was hot for a week...week and a half. Then Major League pitching caught up to him. He cannot hit breaking balls low and inside...you saw Kerry acknowledge that and proceed to own him. I don't like playing the injury card, but I'll say this again: this series would be a whole lot interesting with Rolen, Walker, Sanders and Molina. You guys had injuries last year, too, though. I just don't know why Tony left Marquis in there... Go moan on a Cardinal board. You're probably just here to taunt us anyway.
