  1. Kirk Rueter was just DFA'ed Can see him in a Cub uni soon. He's a Dusty guy right?? woo hoo.
  2. Anyone up in the pen?? When's the last time that Rusch has thrown 80 pitches?
  3. Thankfully some off days are coming up and Baker can skip Rusch and Williams a few times. Is there anyone the Cubs can pick off of waivers?? There's nothing the minors to get fired up about.
  4. That Burnitz sure is streaky. Give Murton 3 starts in a row Dusty.
  5. Ugh. Where's Shawn Estes. :) So much for Glendon's 3.32 ERA as a starter. Been a while since he's started, so can't hammer him too bad. He has performed well at times this year.
  6. Put Lawton in rf. Burnitz is really struggling.
  7. I said I'd get fired up when he hit one to the warning track. :) How far did it go? It hit 2/3rds the way up the foul pole, but it wasn't a real hard hit liner... ~375-80 would be my guess. 390. Dang! He's on juice. (psssst. I'm trying to look it better for his kids and grandkids) :) Oh. I was about ready to jump on the bandwagon. :)

  9. I said I'd get fired up when he hit one to the warning track. :) How far did it go? Smacked off about the bottom of the top third of the foul pole. About 350 or so?? Nice shot. Is against a guy named Wandy though.

  11. Any defensive blunders yet?? Hopefully Rusch settles down.
  12. Ah. I see. Thanks for the clarification. I'm rooting for him to pitch well, so they can deal him, as well.
  13. They'd be nuts to risk their 12.5 million investment just to get a few innings from him a week. It sounds like Hendry has went to various specialists, so all should be fine.
  14. If the idea is to improve next year, then I want to see them stay as competitive for as long as possible this year. The last thing I want is for them to finish 14 under .500.
  15. Doesn't Rusch have a player option for next year of 2 million?? Can they trade him afterward, if he decides to take the $2 million?
  16. If Dusty's around next year, don't expect Murton to start.
  17. This would be why Burnitz would get the ole DFA (IF traded for Griffey or any other 'name' OF). I can't see that happening. They're going to hold out hope for a hot streak.
  18. Jmo & maybe a little out there, but Kerry Wood = key. Just seems like the team goes on a losing streak every time he goes on the DL. He's essentially the heart of the team. If he keeps dominating teams every other game out of the pen, the Cubs will be difficult to beat down the stretch. With the off days coming up, Baker can skip either Williams and Rusch a few times and can use Wood on the days Maddux and Williams or Rusch pitch. Just need to have Prior shut down teams like Z does. The offense may just need to score more than 3 runs per game.
  19. I don't know about that. If you do that we're getting almost no power out of our outfield and sacrificing some defense. Burnitz is streaky and I expect him to get hot soon. In your opinion, how much of a fall off would there be defensively?? The current defense is pretty brutal, the last thing the team needs to do is downgrade it. The d gave up 2 runs tonight. True. But Aramis and Nomar are to blame for the 2 runs tonight that scored because of bad D, not the OF (not tonight). Yep, not the outfield tonight. Put Barrett in there instead of Blanco and maybe it's 3. :o
  20. What team do you see winning 90?? This group of wildcard contenders don't look too strong. Anyone know what's the lowest win total to take the wildcard?? I don't know.. but in 2003 we took the division with only 87... :) I'm guessing 87 or 88 games. How many did Florida win in 2003??

  23. Jmo but I think Kerry has given the team a huge lift w/ his dominant performances out of the pen. And Corey/Nomar with their bats this weekend, and DLee & Aramis' bats reawakening (hopefully just in time for a big Cubs playoff push). Agree. Just seems like Kerry's the heart of the team. They nearly fell off the planet after his latest departure from the rotation. Him absolutely manhandling teams for 2 innings every other game could really get this team rolling.
  24. They need to skip Williams next start. They have an off day on Thrs. Just go w/ Prior on Friday. Then skip Rusch when they have an off day on Aug. 25.
  25. A sweep is possible indeed. It's not like there's a matchup of Williams vs. Clemens or Rusch vs. Oswalt. With Washington playing Philadelphia, I think the Cubs could get within 4 games of the wildcard leader, if they sweep Houston. I'll take 2 of 3 and be happy. Still got a ways to go, and I can't see any team running away with it. Jmo but I think Kerry has given the team a huge lift w/ his dominant performances out of the pen.
