  1. If needed, give Giles a 4th year. (Yes, highly unlikely the Cubs do this).. Giles is exactly what the Cubs offense needs. .400 obp guy w/ some pop and he bats left-handed.
  2. I'm still waiting for Wood to blow his arm out. Perhaps the intelligent observers are wrong??
  3. We should probably get Preston Wilson and Chan Ho Park too. Park used to be good, and Walker should have hired Wilson's agent.
  4. Guess I'm part of the "unintelligent observer" group. Also, the market must be pretty stupid to give Sori $7.5 mil and Walk $2.5 mil. Either that or Walker has the worse agent in baseball history.
  5. Murton, Patterson or Lofton in cf, Giles in rf.. ARam, Furcal, Nomaaah, Lee and Barrett
  6. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nomah @ 2b next year. Just bring back Hairston for insurance. Nomah's too erractic and doesn't have the range for SS anymore. Give Nomar $2 million base, w/ about $5 mil. in incentives. At least he has shown that he can still hit. (.879 ops since his return). With the Cubs dangling Walker, just seems like they have something else up their sleeve w/ either Nomar, Kent, Soriano or Cedeno.
  7. Yes and finish 20 under .500 and watch Furcal, Giles and Wagner go elsewhere. You really think September is going to make or break a FA's decision on the quality of the franchise? The Cubs are in a big city, big market, with good talent, and recent success. It may not matter to Furcal. He's young and has been to the playoffs multiple times. Most likely it will be about the money for him. Now Giles is probably a different story. Finish nowhere close to .500 and Giles becomes less likely.
  8. I don't see Anaheim signing an outfielder. They already have a lot of cash tied up in that OF in Vlad, Garrett, and Finley. Finley's been a major disappointment and they only have him signed for another year. Also, they lose Salmon's contract and can move GA to DH. It appears they won't be spending much on pitching, as their minor league system is pretty strong, and they're really raking in the money this year. My guess is that they'll have Giles on their radar, as they need to add a little more offense.
  9. If they love him so much why didn't they make more of an effort to keep him? Excellent question and thank you for raising it. Walker lovers the floor is your's. :D
  10. Yes and finish 20 under .500 and watch Furcal, Giles and Wagner go elsewhere.
  11. Good luck getting any free agents, if they decide to throw in the towel. This team needs lots of help.
  12. Make Walker part of the Manny Ramirez or Barry Zito trade. Theo and Beane have to love this guy.
  13. Except Walker gets more extra base hits than Furcal, so he doesn't always have to steal a base to get into scoring position. I'm not sure that kind of money is worth some stolen bases. Also, the Braves don't want him back. If they felt he was that important to their team, I think they'd find a way to keep him around. They usually aren't wrong about these types of things. Are they going to put Wilson Betemit @ SS??
  14. I don't disagree with that. I like speed as much as anyone. But signing him for big bucks ($8MM+) for a .340 OBP? That's not solving our problems. The bottom line is that he just doesn't get on base like an $8MM leadoff hitter should. Gotta factor in that he's only 27, and can improve his ability to get on base. Also, he has a cannon for an arm @ SS, w/ exceptional range. The pitching staff should love him.
  15. Furcal's not going to just sit @ first base when he gets there like a Walker or a Bellhorn. He's going to steal a lot of bases and distract the opposing pitcher. This may make some uncomfy, but he's a good intangible player. Sorry, I can't present a stat for how much he'll distract opposing pitchers.
  16. Have to assume Giles @ his age and with his lack of playoff appearances will want to go to a winner. If Anaheim throws him 3 and 33, can't see him passing up that. Hopefully the Cubs don't completely collapse and can finish respectfully. Some of these kids can wait until next year.
  17. 4 years for a 27 year old is not that big a deal. It's not the same as offering 4 years to a 32 year old. 4 & 32 works for me. That what Renteria got right..
  18. I'm sure Zambrano and Prior would love this approach.
  19. So basically whatever Hendry decides will be fine?? That's what I'm gathering from your argument.
  20. He was brought back by the Cubs b/c in 04' the Cubs were too RH dominant offense. Needing to get some LH hitters in the mix. A goal for the Cubs is going to be get stronger defensively, IIRC they rank near the bottom of the NL in defense. So, despite that assumption of something beneath the surface like a character issue(as that posters implies) they brought him back b/c he hits from the L side? The Cubs are 12th in MLB defensive eff., better than their offense and pitching. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/sortable/index.php?cid=206 Where would they be if Nomar played @ SS all year? 30th?? Neifi's defense >>>> Nomar's.
  21. But if both Nomar and Walker are healthy, I'd say they have the best offensive middle infield in the league, so I think that more than makes up for the defense. I have to disagree. I think improving the defense should be the #1 priority. We already have Barrett at C and Ramirez at 3rd. They need to get stronger up the middle. Cubs are 8th in the league in runs. They need to be adding offense. Not getting rid of it. Where's the pitching/defense rank?? Get Giles and Furcal and Walker's not too important.
  22. 1) You think you can get Manny Ramirez for that package? (if that is the Manny that you are talking about) 2) No Neifi plz. Manny's been waived a few times right??
  23. Giles would be perfect in front of Lee and Ramirez. I'd take Lofton for a 1 year stop gap in cf. Hopefully, they'd bring back Hairston tho for insurance. Trade Wood & Patterson for Manny. Get Manny & Giles, and they can just bring back Neifi @ ss or play Cedeno @ ss. If Neifi's @ ss, at least they'd have a solid glove on the left side of the infield.
